Stygian Veil build on the wiki...

I posted the build me and my friends and guildies have been using to conquer the Stygian Veil on the wiki. This is the link:

Given some responses to the Foundry build... I would like to clarify that this is not THE only Stygian Veil build, nor does it have to be THE best one. This is just A build for those having difficulty doing that place.
The idea of a Symbiosis tank is fully mine, I owe a lot of gratitude to many people who have helped me with making it work and enhancing it. Please feel free to suggest any improvements/corrections/modifications.
This build completes the two quests and kills the Dreadspawn Maw in about three hours or less if done efficiently. There are ways to skip down into the trenches and kill the Lords, but I am assuming that the party needs to do all quests and kill the Maw in this article.

The build isn't efficient. The bonder is unnecessary, symbiosis is unnecessary, and the spirit spammer is better as a trapper rather than a cripshot. Elementalists are not optimal damage characters in Veil; they're primarily useful for the KD from MS and their ability to continue casting over long periods in the event that something goes wrong. Their frontloaded damage is actually quite poor in comparison to other classes, so there's no reason to take more than one or two of them.

That's a bit much, I think. Lots of people have considered a Sym Tank. We ran a Sym Tank on Orozar, in Oct '05, so again your quote seems a bit over the top. But, whatever.

Burst: I am guessing you have not done Veil. You should try it with a regular tanks, watch him drop in 5 seconds and then revisit the issue. 6 touchers each stealing 86 health every second = dead tank. The entire idea of Symbiosis is to give the tank upward of 2000 health and allow him to absorb the touchies while the nukers finish them off. You need MS + Freeze to be able to kill all the foes around the tank before aggro scatters. You do NOT want broken aggro in DoA of more than 1 or 2 monsters.
Carinae: I was not saying I made up the idea of a heavily enchanted Symbiosis tank, I am saying it was fully my idea that we try it in the veil and (as far as I can tell) we were one of the first to beat it that way, which is a LOT faster and more efficient than trapping. Of course, the symbiosis bonder is a very old concept.

None of this is "necessary." Did you read my first post? It clearly says that this is not the ONLY way to do Veil, nor the BEST way to do Veil, just a tried and true (and VERY efficient) way of doing Veil.
Feel free to post your bonderless, Symbiosisless, Deep-Freezeless build and share your expertise. I for one am eager to see how you plan to keep anything alive against those touchers without significantly boosting their total hit points.

You can even do it without monks
Our only monk errored at at the very start before end of the first quest update. Altho my infuse and prot spirit saved us alot :P Karlos

That's easy! Because that part was copied from our Foundry build which was posted first. In that build, the Healer's Boon monk uses Necrotic Traversal to leave the room. I fixed it, thanks.

Yeah, oddly enough. Avarre came with us once when we were only running two. Mesmers aren't that common, but at the times we play (1:00am EST) DoA is pretty deserted anyway so it wouldn't make much difference what we ran in terms of difficulty finding people. Case in point - a few days ago we were putting together a foundry group and we couldn't even find a damn warrior.

Sure there are mesmers around, otherwise just PM me. I want to complete DoA with my mesmer. AP or SP Spike is nice too. Horseman Of War
My E Surge Mesmer has been my only character in DoA for weeks now. My very first guild wars character ever- makes me happy. I tried a few different builds for the Cant Touch This paragon, using mesmer secondary to remove the silence hexes and not even bothering to carry a spear but after the amount of flames i got for even trying to tweak the build out, I decided its a lost cause.
OK please dont flame me this is only half serious unlike the paragon idea i had- what about replacing the ranger with a ritualist... and what about a vwk rit with the right support? someone tell me that they vwk. that would be awesome. would a RT/R with symbiosis (or possibly a few totally different spirits - never tried mixing quickening zehphyr and energizing wind together...) possibly work in the mix? regardless, I have about 5 more minutes at this cpu so I wanted to rant out as many thoughts as I could. have a nice day. |
