Which chest system do you like better?
milias
Hi, as many of you know, ANet changed the chest system in a recent update. It used to be that a chest was gold or purple (or blue), meaning that if it drops a certain color for the first person upon opening the chest, the chest will drop the same color for any subsequent uses. The recent update made it so that it's now all random, meaning that the rarity of the chest drop can be different for each person upon opening the same chest.
I thought it would be helpful to conduct a little poll and see what people thought about this change.
Question: Which chest system do you like better?
Choices:
1. Chests dropping the same color
2. Chests dropping different colors
3. I don't really have a preference
4. Pudding!

I'd say the new system, out of the choices you've given, but my favourite was the old, OLD system where there were no locks on chests
JC68
well if there were more gold drops (1,5x-2x (yes i really enjoyed double weekend ) i would said that i don´t mind about chest system, but as far as 70-80% of chest drops are purple - i like "same color" system better
Count to Potato
i don't have a preference, but that puddig sure looks and sounds good, as long as i get a gold one time or another im happy
fenix
Definitely the old way of if a chest was Gold, all drops were Gold. It kinda sucks seeing a Gold drop and having it purple for you, after being so used to every Gold chest being Gold...
Also...there's alot of votes for Pudding LOL

"Old" system was more user friendly. Random color item FTL
Hand of Ruin
I used to CR a lot at Raisu, and it was always a big debate over who had to open first... the new system eliminates that.
Emik
Considering mopst drops nowadays are just plain crap i'd say the old system...
There used to be a bit of a certainty that the keys you bought were going to make profit (most of the time)
Now that's just gone and i must admit i stopped buying keys alltogether.

I prefer the old system.
I always feel sorry for those in my group who get purple items from a chest that gave me gold. Especially if the keys are really expensive.

I much prefer the old system. I know they orginally intended for it to be the way it is now, but I have yet to get a gold from a chest. I refuse to buy keys anymore because they're a waste.
Kid Divinity
I like the new system. There are no more of those odd people who run up to the chest and back off, thinking they are scamming you into opening it first. There are no more people saying "open this one and I'll get the next"... but then never opening anything first.
Lyphen
Chests should always be a risk.

Pudding ftw- The new system is nice but the cost of keys is terribly expensive The double gold weekends are always a win with me.
Bale_Shadowscar
Pudding.
Meh I don't really have a preference as I don't use chests a lot.

I don't care about chests... really... pudding on the other hand?
Seriously, I don't mind the new type of chests.. I found it tiring to have a bunch of people waiting around a chest until someone finally decided to open the chest (and possibly waste their key on a purple).. This new system makes it exciting every time, which I find a good thing

Honestly, the new system is fairer, but out of selfishness I personally liked the old system better. In a party of eight, at least only one key would be wasted per chest (if it were purple)...now, on average, 4-5 keys are wasted on purple drops per chest.

I prefer the old system, but the new one makes more sense and is better

I like pudding and will always vote for pudding.
You run in to open a chest and get grapes. The next person runs in and gets gold. Old system is way better.

Do you know how it is to be in a 8 man group and the last one to open the chest after everyone else has gotten golds and you're stuck with the one purple item?
Yeah, it sucks.
Yeah, it sucks.

Maybe if the chests did'nt normaly drop 90% purples now I would say stick to the new one. But pudding FTW
broodijzer
old. I enjoyed running with other people, now everyone does it alone because it doesn't matter anymore. and much, much less profit (selling unidentified golds ftw)

pudding hmm delicous pudding...
anyway i don't really care, with group chest running something was bound to go wrong, and solo chest running is my favorite.
having chests actually drop random made it seem more "realistic" IMO

New system. It not only makes for a more stable economy and more "realistic", but honestly now, isn't it much more fun now that chests are a GAMBLE? I think so!

Pudding for me too pls. I find chests one of the biggest money sinks to be found in GW. I don't buy keys anymore and if I find a key I prefer to sell it to the merchant. I rather save up the gold and buy the specific items I want. 1500 gold for an obsidian or stygian key which give you a crappy gold that you can sell for 300g at the merchant. If you're lucky and find some decent upgrades on them, you might get your money back or you may hit the jackpot but the latter never happened to me.
Sure I once liked the gamble of opening chests but I seldomly got something good, not even amongst the hundreds of golds I got.

I voted "Different Colors", because since the update all I've seen is PURPLE and it's anoying.
If there was at least a chance of getting something other than a purple from these chests, then I'd like the current system a lot more.

no thanxs for the puddle just yuck
new system of random chest FTW

Current system is better. Everyone in the party is in the same situation, regardless of who opens the chest first.
And nothing worse than bringing along a few keys, with the old system, opening a chest a getting a gold, then players asking/begging for a key so they could get a gold item also. Then never getting the gold back for the key(s) you give out like some kind of charity.

I don't do chests.

The pollmeister is back!
Though I don't use chests personally, I prefer the new system. I can't count the number of Master runs (particularly in Nahpui Quarter) that failed because someone spotted a gold chest and the team wasted three minutes crowding around it and asking each other what they got.
Also, as a couple people pointed out, it's more fair to the person who opens the chest first- no one wants to be the guinea pig to see if the chest is gold or not.

How did you know I'm eating pudding right now?
I like the new system, since the randomness will just add to the anticipation of getting golds.

I think some chests should explode killing anybody in the area or maybe release some deadly boss that must be killed to get the item that was in the chest.
Hollerith
The new versions of chests do not bother me while I'm in Elona because I can upgrade inscriptions on (even) purple items and use them on heros or something.
The new system hurts me in the old chapters because 90% of the chest drops there are going to be worthless. Having a canary around to check the color of the chest at least gave the group of getting a decent item.

I don't do chest runs/farming, I just carry a few keys and open a chest if I stumble across one, and the few golds I have gotten since the update were runes.
Randomness is a good thing, but I always seem to be the million-to-one unlucky bastard that only gets rubbish.

Pudding FTW!!
I liked it old school, no keys at all.
And I think chests should drop stuff based on how far from an outpost you are, finding purple crap in chests out in the middle of nowhere (Dreadnoughts Drift) is so disappointing.
I was only out there to map for cartographer title, but still, I killed all the mobs, the chest should drop me a damn gold! =P
Maybe it should drop based on the number of mobs left in the area, if you don't kill any and just run for the chest = purple, but if you clear the whole zone = gold

I usualy keep 8-10 keys on me at all times. Especialy in the high lvl areas (those chests count towards your Treasure Hunter title). I like the new system now because there is never a mad rash for the chests anymore.

I'm ok with random rarity. I just want to know the odds of getting the same item out of the same chest. I've been farming Modti Darkflower for a week or so and have gotten 4 gold and 2 purple Whalekin Wands from the chest that is invariably nearby. It would be good to know if certain items spawn in certain chests because then I could get the items I want rather wade through swill thats not worth the key I used to open the chest.
The Fallen One
I personally enjoy the new randomness of the chest system. I admit I was never a great fan of keys+chests, they've always been a horrible gold sink apart from the occasional jackpot, but they were, and still are fun, for the gamble. Also I concur that the Leeroy chest runners in all manner of areas could be so annoying. That chest right beside the Leviathan in The Deep. The on inside that huge mob of whatevers wherever that one person runs in and dies for and gets gold, gets rebirthed, and suddenly you have a mad rush for the chest. Anet has eliminated this and half of the profit of running chests in different places through their new update.
Guys, bear with me, I had such a hard time figuring out whether I liked pudding that came in two flavors or chests that came in two flavors.
