Well the way I understand it, is if you got a certain number of predictions right you will get the items, But if you didn't get any right I don't think you'll get anything.
I don't think just registering gets you an item though. It may, but i doubt it.

i think that in "all players who registered during the prediction period will receive one free pick of a Wintergreen item" they mean that everyone who register (dosnt metter if he was right in his predictions) will get a free green thingy :P

1-10 predictiosn right u get 1 selection
11-20 2 selections
21-32 3 selections
and i think each selection gives u one greeny of ur choice,
also do any of u know where a list of the correct winners are?
i know i didnt get 32 cos i put frozen flame ( jrs guild) first, shame celebs won
