New To Monking
Hanging Man
Ok so I wanna see how difficult a monks job really is.
So this is my question. I have the Prophecies and Nightfall campaigns so which one should i do?
I mainly want to be a monk for pvp reasons
When you post a reply give a nice answer not just either or, a reason behind it would be nice.
On the one side I like the fact that when you do quests you unlock certain skills for proophecies but i hate how long it takes to get an elite. Not counting getting runs to the areas.
But nightfall has elites within your grasp when you reach the mainland.
So give a nice reply and some suggestions on how to be a good monk. thanx

Blame the Monks
If you want a monk for pvp reasons, don't start in pve. There isn't much point to pve for the sake of pvp anymore.

jsut like blame said, tho i woudl go nightfull. more players, heros, better elites, ZB,divert hexs and the light one, where as factions only had BL. also id make a PVP char and go random areans/ta, build up faction then buyt the skills form there and PVP that way

If you are gong to play the role of Monk in PvP you will need some basic training first. You can't just make up a or you can but you will be spending tons of hours in random arenas and that can get fustrating. What I suggest is makeing a PvE Monk and start learning the role from there and do this in Prophecies and to learn all your skills not just the ones on your bar.I would learn how to heal first and then protect. This is the best way to learn this role if it were something else no problem of just jumping in to PvP but a Monk isn't just another class.
You could do what Blame the Monks said but you won't be haveing any fun doing it.I can tell you this that I played in Halls when I first learned to Monk but that was back in beta and a lot has changed since then.

yeah i think starting out in arena would be a good way to get discouraged. it's not easy to deal with pressure when you're not even sure about the skills you've chosen. i would also start in prophecies. you can actually go with a group of people from the start and learn as you go. there will be no one to bitch at you in the early missions since it's fairly easy.

I would not start in proph cuz it takes very long to finish the campaign, better start in factions. U get into the real stuff alot faster and u learn how to play a monk pretty fast.

Starting a monk in either proph or factions will teach you what you need for monking. I like to start in phoph because then you can ease into the monk build, true factions will teach you faster, but you learn the skills better when not under pressure.
With the monk builds out there, don't jump into one fast and not be open to change all the time. You can learn to monk from the start of proph and make your way to LA, then if you want, go to factions and get more skills there.
Starting in Pve will unlock all the skills you need, so that when you do get to Pvp you have a good start and can then unlock which skills you want for a true Pvp monk.

Monking is a skill some are born with, some are not. If you have no experience whatsoever monking, i would suggest you do prophecies because it takes you into it slower, then bring it over to nf and go get some more elites on the mainland there. if you do have some experience, and you either 1. havent bought either of the games or 2. are willing to spend some more money, you can just buy the pvp unlock packs and go straight for pvp

Based on what the OP said, I don't think we should keep encouraging him to start off monking in Factions; it appears he doesn't have that campaign yet. I would still suggest Nightfall though; the story is fast-paced similarly to Factions is.
Giga Strike
if you are new to the game you should play prophecies. it will give you more skills over the course of the game which will allow you to build your build up slowly. this allows you to become more familiar with your skills.
in nightfall the skills you get are all about which skills you buy from the skills npc. you wont know exactly how well the skills work unless you use them all, that could take alot of skill points and money.

maybe propocies chacter, but once u get to lions arch, u could swap campaign...
then u get to jump nearly directly to the mainland, and some of the nice elite skills are in a fairly easy runable area, u can go in the towns, but not do the mission btw

If you don't know much about monking, go with Prophecies (the whole slower pace, time to learn, get more skills thing already mentioned several times). When you think you know enough, pretty much start learning again from scratch in PvP with a new, decently unlocked PvP character (except with the knowledge of what skills to use when). Taking a non-max character to PvP is useless because you're already at a disadvantage knowledge-wise and you don't want to be at a further disadvantage equipment-wise.
