Old FoW armor
Tauren Arcanist
I have a question for all the people who bought FoW armor for their characters before the Inscription system was introduced.
Dont you guys feel a little bit cheated? All that hard work and now some of the armors are no longer even considered gaming grade?

Why would you feel cheated?
-Loki-
As long as they bought a decent stat set (eg they didn't go and buy Plate or Knights for their warrior, and bought Gladiators) then why should they feel cheated? Their armour is, and always will be, usable.
Tauren Arcanist
Some of the new inscriptions made the old armors a bit obsolete. Sorta think its not fair. Spend 4+ mil in items for armor that isnt the best it can be...
Maria The Princess
if you can afford fow you can afford anouther set (not necesarly fow) to have the new stats on

When they nerfed knights as a universal absorption, thats the only time i think people felt cheated (i would have felt cheated too!).
The only new INSIGNIAS (Inscriptions are for weapons) that are superior over the old one, imo is radiant insignias for elementalists, since they never had +energy armor in the previous versions.
But the rest of the new insignias dont really offer anything thats imbalanced or overtly powerful vs the old versions.
Druids/Gladiator/Ascetic/Scar/Enchanters will always be the best all armor armor stats, imo.
+ energy ftw ^_^

Was it ever suppose to be the best it could be? Or just the best looking for prophecies? Maybe it was just suppose to be a money sink all along, because the stats were never different than any other armor in prophecies.
Tauren Arcanist
Nightfall generally devauled most weapons. I used to make most of my money off open trade but I feel as though its not worth it anymore.

This in turn changed what people wanted to buy, since there may be weapons from nightfall thats more desirable for some people.
Before the release of Nightfall, Golden Phoenix Swords were high desired, now, not as much.
The more skins they add, the more options people have, the less desirable some skins become.
THIS IS TO BE EXPECTED.
Only the truly rare and classically wanted of skins will retain their value over the addition of more skins, simply because they are just good skins to begin with.
Out with the old, in with the new. Only the true classics will stay forever.
I like to parallel the Guild War's weapon market to the stock market or maybe cars.
Some cars are good when they come out. They last for a while. Then a new version comes out, or a better rival car comes out. However some cars will NEVER lose their value, simply because they are: Classics, highly desirable, or truly rare.
You can't expect the value of your weapon to stay forever, since there will be more and more skins coming in the future.
My advice: Keep up with whats good and whats not. This means watching what people buy and playing the market properly. Some weapons are reliable in keeping their value. Some are not.
Although i must ask you, why do you care how other people value your equipment?
The Ernada
It really is silly that people complain about the "value" of weapons in the monetary sense. If you can a use for the weapon in combat who the hell cares how much it's worth in gold?

I don't feel cheated when it comes to inscriptable armor parts as the fow ascetics vestment has +8 energy and the inscr. +5 energy. So add a radiant inscription on the inscriptable one and you get the same. The only drawback would be not having the choice to put for example a +10 armor when enchanted on the old fow versions but I use ascetic all the time anyway. Like Lyra Song posted earlier, it's a different matter for ele armor.
I felt cheated when they changed the dye setup of monk fow overnight without warning the public. So I couldn't dye my two last spare parts (which I bought after that notorious update) in the shiny blue anymore. I even contacted support and got 5 different gm's to look into the matter but they couldn't help me out. I ended up salvaging those 2 spare parts (vest and legs) and got 18 ecto's and 18 shards back which I gave to my best real life friend. I couldn't stand those two parts being different anymore. gg
On a positive side, nobody can get this colour anymore and it feels unique and people regurarly ask me how the hell I got that colour. So for me it's way more valuable than a new set of fow.

I just got myself fow ascetics for monk and i dont feel cheated cuz i know ill be using the energy set newayz

The de-globalisation of knights bothered me because the armour stopped functioning as it did when I made the decision, and I was forced to fork out another 15 ecto/shards to replace my boots. With that exception, the fow I bought then works exactly the same as when I chose to buy it, and is as good as any inscriptable armour with radiant insignias, so no I don't feel cheated.

Yes...yes i do feel cheated...after so much hard work the FoW looks like some ugly sh*t on me..i want my ectos back!

In regards to the low IQ flame-bait; I got my ranger's fissure armour through trading kuunavang when it was still going for 100k.
In regards to OP: Not really. I mean, yeah, I'd like it to be inscribable, but at the same time, druids armour is for general purpose just better than the other types. Besides, as a beast master, I don't often get hit anyway, so I don't need the extra elemental protection anyway.

Back to topic...
When they first changed the name on the fow-armor into Obsidian [...] I somehow knew that my old armor will most likely never see an update - so it doesn't surprise me to see wether an upgrade npc nor anything similar after the introduction of the insignia system.
shardfenix
Old obsidian armor should be updated to work with insignias. You're right, it's not fair for those who got theirs before nightfall was released. I'm glad I got the energy one and will never have to change it, but others might need more versatile armor.

lol....sorry! Being cheeky. To me most FoW armor just looks plain horrible. Monk is "ok"...but there's nothing special about it. Female Necro is "ok" but the only one I would ever get myself is Female Mesmer. Saw it in white the other day - it is teh win.

And you were never able to mix more than 4 bottles of dye, even before the update. Adding a 5th dye to a mix simply dropped the first color from the mix.

I bought only the Knights warrior helm, insignias would be great but the 200k needed to replace that single peice is not worth it(believe it or not most people earn the money legitimatly) i wonder when ANET will stop screwing the old players.
Griff Mon
Farmed it, traded for it, got a little help from guildies (who I paid back for it) every bit of my FoW.
I like it, I bought it for looks for my female necro and although I wish it was inscribable, it still serves me well.

FoW and Tyrian 15K should be made inscribable, like it's mentioned in the suggestions forum. I know alot of people like 15K platemail, but have to get an uglier helm in order to get good stats.

I bought my FoW for the mods I saw listed. If I want other mods on my armor, it's cheaper to just put on another set, not constantly swap inscriptions.
Don't feel cheated at all.

No I dont, I have my druids set for ranger, realy dont see any use in other armor sets.

It makes no sense that three different armor systems and crafter types exist.
Prophecies style
Factions style
Nightfall style
--> Insignia armor can be upgraded, old armors can't.
It is not only about FoW armor, I think it is about time that they unify their armor system. Even if it means work, they should add insignia and inscription drops to Prophecies and Factions.
Staves and other gold drops in Prophecies and Factions are merchant fodder, except there is a good upgrade on them.
This really prevents me from going back to Factions and Prophecies at times. It also really angers me that there are STILL no +1 weapon helmets for Plate 15K and Dragon 15K armor.
They should at least allow people who own Nightfall to upgrade their old armors to the new Insignia standard.
I still hope the armor/insignia/inscription system will be unified for all three chapters short before the release of Chapter IV. At the moment it might be seen as some kind of incentive to buy Nightfall.

i dont feel cheatet because i have my +enegry armour from fow and its enough i don't need any inscriptions there
Robin_Anadri
I don't feel cheated. But then, I bought the +energy set. I saved up ecto and shard drops for over a year, and farmed amber for gold to buy my Mesmer's FoW set, it's beautiful and I'm proud of it.
I'm somewhat annoyed that insignias weren't incorporated though, for the simple fact that I want a bloodstained version of my 15K bonelace boots. I hate having to wear ascalon boots when I want to MM, ruins my look.

i feel cheated by the new dye system on the monk fow not the inscriptions. i've always wanted that blue on the monk and the update happened without any announcement. i've tried every dye mix i could think of and it's not even close to that beautiful bright blue.
Mistress Mindbender
I never bought FoW armor, never liked the looks. But considering that FoW/UW are core zones, anyone should be able to trade in their old fow for a new set.
Ghull Ka
I have old FoW for my warrior. So old, it's got Knight's boots. (well, Ascalon boots, but ya know what I mean)
Do I feel cheated now that the crafter offers something entirely different than it did when I bought mine? No. Duh. I have precisely what the crafter offered when I gave him my money - precisely what I paid for.
Well, one slight difference, I suppose... my boots reduce -3 damage now instead of -2. Heh.

No, i got my monks FoW over a year ago, and i'm quite grateful for that and can care less about insignias, i have the Ascetics version anyways, that's all I need. Plus, old FoW dyes so much better then the new FoW, just look at mesmers FoW, the old version dyes actual White, whereas the new version dyes a more.. greyish white.. i suppose (looks bad.), and Imo, it gives no disadvantage stats-wise. it only means that u cant change the stats on the armor. Anet even added +1 energy to old headgear just to counter the +1 that radiant insignias can give u on new headgear i guess.
Stupid Shizno
Question: say you never bought nightfall, how would you know your at a disadvantage or not? I dont think they (anet) needs to go back into tyria and redo all the armor reqs and add inscriptions, same should be for factions then. its just a new "buy nightfall for this reason". nightfall/factions still dont have the player base for UW/FoW as tyria does, everyone still goes to ToA for their fow/uw runs.
Shantel Span
When I got my necro her FoW, I bought all Tormentor's. It's still very much on par with current necromancer armours.

Yes, I know it sounds a lot easier than it probably is, but that's an idea I've seen floating around.
LiQuId StEeL
My 'ascalon' fissure boots are pretty trash now, but I honestly don't care anymore. It's only 1 energy difference.
Sure, I was pissed when they nerfed the global, but meh. I still stand by my hopes that we can inscribe previous armors for a price someday... 15k ascalon ftw.

yeh i feel cheated

I feel sorta cheated on some of my 15K armors. I mean on my warrior I have glads and thats what I wanted I bought it for running so its ok. On my el though I have 15K Pyro. I def would like to make it inscribable. So far I can only hit 97 engy without engy boosting skills. I wanna break 100 without the -2 engy degen I bought my sin Vabbi armor so that was fine. My monk has 15K ascetics but Judge's Pants. If they made the 15K judges inscribable I'd love Anet forevaaaa!

I can understand why Anet may not want people from Factions or Prophecies to have the ability to insigniate their armor if they don't have Nightfall. The ability to insigniate makes purchasing Nightfall an added incentive. But let's be reasonable. This is the real question here:
Why NOT make it so players who own nightfall AND wear armor from another campeign the ability to access an NPC that will allow you to upgrade your armor to allow insignias?
Where's the problem in that? I think anywhere there is an Armorer in nightfall the player should have this oppurtunity; be it Kurzick, FoW or even pre searing! Come now Anet, I'm certain this solution wouldn't be too difficult for the team to implement.
