Map/Travel Update Suggestions

Guild wars is really in need of an update to the map/travel/teleport scheme. Back when you could only travel in Tyria the system was adequate. Then Factions came along and we started to see how cumbersome this system is. Now with Nightfall and the subsequent Torment region it has become almost unbearable.

To travel to any continent you have to first travel into the ‘main’ portal town before you can move on to wherever. People are aware of this and consequently these towns have become spam central for people trying to engage in commerce. The load times for LA/KC/etc are horrible at times.

Why can’t they just have ‘Tyria, Cantha, Elona, Balthazar’ options when you select the travel ship and then when you pick the continent, it loads the map for that area and you can select a destination just like the M function works now.

Or alternately, why can’t they just have a Goto function that brings up a listing of every single city you have been to and you just pick the name and it transports you there.

At the very least I would expect this would help eliminate some of the server traffic.

If the maps get merged together, you get trouble with scaling, seeing that elona is just as wide as the Crystal Desert. And it works fine for me right now. I'd rather click just 4 times (or 6-8 times for zooming in and out) then to go through a drop down menu or come up with the name of that particular town somewhere in Kaineng, which uses four of the same letters in one word. No, it's fine to me.

Its become almost unbearable to clik the mouse 4 times ?
I think someone needs a break away from video games for a bit,so they can get a dose of reality, there are many things in this life that I would class as being almost unbearable, waiting for the GW client to cycle thru a couple of maps is not, will never be, and should never be classified as one of them.
Mapping system works just fine, In my opinion, the devs should spend their time on more worthy pursuits.
I like that fact that people are required to go to Hub towns, its more realistic. As to lowering server loads, you've lost me their, I dont know much about Factions, but I know LA has always been spam central, nothing has changed in that regard, except know every now and then you get a "Where the hell is Figo?", or "How do I get to Nightfall",etc....coming over the chat. Never experienced these long load times you speak of, and I'm at LA several times a day lately.

I would have the map screen scrollable, like the way your slots can be scrolled left or right with two arrows, then it dosnt even require 1 click to change map

Are you kidding? These areas already were and would be spam central anyway. Your GOTO idea is not practical or workable. The map idea does not make sense.

Its not the 4 mouse clicks, its loading Kaining/LA/Kamaden/Temple thats the annoyance.

Why not let you swap the maps over before map-travelling then going straight to your destination town/outpost.

Although I don't want the maps to be merged though. Just a selection to select which continent and then map travel directly. This would actually save a lot of ANet's bandwidth aswell.

That is exactly my point. It is not the amount of clicks necessary to map, it is the amount of time you end up waiting for locations to load. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a fantastic connection or a speedy system. Spending several minutes just to map from the domain of pain to deldrimor is too long.

It appears I was not concise in my idea behind the changing of the mapping. I do not propose they merge maps or anything of that nature.

I simply think it would save time when the user clicks the Ship they are given a listing of the different continents (Tyria, Cantha, etc) and then once they select a continent it displays the appropriate map and the user can then select where to go within that area.

Exactly, It is a pain to load up to three town/outpost to get to the destination.

Why are so many so stupid?

The idea is genious, and he should be revered as a god. Someone saying "Then u need a better computer or less than a minute of patience." is bull shit. Why should we wait to load for no reason? I'd like to try to expand on this idea a little aswell.

We have 4 maps so far, why not just join them together? We already know that Tyria fits nicely right above elona at the crystal desert, the great temple of balthazar and it's islands would fit decently with the factions map, and heck, there'd be room for expansion by making areas of grey. This wouldn't join all the maps into one unless they added something to zoom out all the way, but instead it would create scrolling arrows to the sides of the map that you could click to swap between them. In all my suggestions, no matter how simple, no one seems to quite grasp what I'm saying.

Simply: The tyrian map HOW IT IS NOW will have a down arrow at the bottom of the map. Upon clicking this, the map will slide down to the Elonian map, thus not forcing you to map through the little ship icon. No downsides at all, and it makes the world a better place. Only thing that might have problems is the Realm of Torment being a seperate map.

Patience is okay, but saying something like that is very rude and no doubt offending to some users of Guild Wars. Some people unfortunately can't help the fact that they can't get better connections, be it location or price.

However, it should be renamed to Travel not Ship Travel seeing as shipps can't cross Land Masses to access land locked towns.

I would have to partially agree with this. For me it takes 30-45 seconds to load a map of crowded city, then I have to hit M, wait for it to load then wait for the next map to load. Maybe a better solution would be instead of having the maps sown together instead when you hit travel instead of saying LA, Kamadan, K.center it says Tryia, Cantha, Elona, Domain Of Anguish. When you click on that it then shows the corresponding map for you. You then simply can warp from there. It kinda be like leaving you guild hall only with a intermediate map buffer in between.

I would like to choose between continents (Tyria, Elona, Cantha), instead of choosing between the major hubs of these continents (LA, Kamadan, Kaineng).

The situation is aggravated by the fact that in Kamadan we can have only a party of 4. So, if I want to do quests or missions with my guildies in some high level areas where party size is 6 or 8, we must travel from our guild to the destination point separately, instead of party jumping to the mission city all together. It is not really convenient.
