Now granted, that'll cost you a whole 10 g, but...

The element that everyone needs to keep in mind is that the dyed hats should be retained -- that would be the Tengu Mask and the Dragon Mask, if my memory serves. (Once, long ago in alpha -- like Halloween 2003 -- we could dye our pumpkin heads -- what fun!) Anyway, if you want to keep the coloured/dyed version, then don't delete it, because the hat npc cannot make dyed copies, but only the original version, sans dye.

And I'd like to ask those of you who are so grumpy to consider taking a "Happy Wintersday Pill" and vowing to keep a positive frame of mind until the new year. All of us here would benefit from your kindness, and who knows? You might find you're a happier person from the effort of not always seeking the negative and the grumble-able in life. I mean it sincerely: I would like to see you happier, and I don't think that the negativity that is in your posts has a thing to do with the game, but lies deep within. In the spirit of the season, I wish you (inner) peace.
Negativity abounds, with people trying to trick folks over the caged dwarf (which seems to be something implemented before it was ready as well) to the complaints about the WTS spam in the party window. A lot of my grumblings (granted it's just a game) are that it's really starting to feel corporate, just toss in a bunch of half-implemented ideas to lul the masses. I totally love that you guys are putting the effort in and keeping the game as fresh as possible. Yet, the hat thing really does irk me and i completely don't get the aversion to adding storage. IMO the crafting tab was a god-send and a great idea, but then you have the limit which some armor types require you to keep another stack of materials in the generic slots. How about putting in a hat tab that does what the trader does, yet only keeps one copy to share among account members and doesn't remove the dye, infused parts?

Personally, I'd take the complaints as a way to improve some already outstanding ideas. Having some insight before the programmers cram in poorly thought out features goes a long way in the sucess of a game. The party window without a GOOD filter system will be totally gimped, the hat *storage* does very little for most people's storage issues (i'm talking about average gamers with very little pack-rat issues). Although i did test out the reconnect last night and it's fan-friggen-tastic. None the less you guys are listening and that's awesome!

Yes, inner-peace to all a-net after the holiday rush to get these features into the game so that we can enjoy and critique them

A bit off-topic, but does anyone know why we were reduced to a stack of materials? I had up to 2500 cloth (thank Grenth I'm down to 1500). I only use the storage for 'in the making' stacks and stuff I never use. It's not ideal for marketing. Yay for mules. -.-

Excuse my wording. I meant it in a way such as, "He was reduced to begging," I did not mean to confuse people. The storage is and always has been 250 max since the option came out.

Has anyone tried reproducing a copy of a hat after every hat of that type has been deleted from the account? I just don't want to chance losing one of my hats on the one character that has them all.

Yes, i only had 1 Witch hat, copied and deleted, and it reproduces niceley. It also made the male/female version of the hat depending on gender of requester.

Yup, not sure why a bunch of people think they need to carry around a copy.
Once the NPC has seen it once/made a pattern, they got it.

Well, if you got really, really bored you might have put runes on it, or got in infused, or if you had money to waste you might have dyed it black, etc.

I dyed em on all my characters but nothing specia/no big price dye l so I'll probably let the Tengu and Dragon Mask go into the ringer. This is a good move and I appreciate the help.

However I concur where players need to chill a bit,
Gaile please take some of it off the top as constructive criticism.

The player search is more trading than anything at the moment, a filter/sort/mix is key.
I like the new gauge for fps/ping, but it's in a questionable spot for me and I don't seem to be able to move it.
Heroes came out great, but we can't tweak their interface and their icons could be tighter to their bar, we can suffer a lot of 'icon spam'.
Hat vendor over storage, ok, but I think there was more hope for holiday item handling in general - the equipment, the 'quaffables', etc.

I've been playing the 'shift the inventory mini-game' amongst mules, even accounts, since release. My new core mule is a pvp mule with max bags, belt of course, and now using all my unlocked heroes (no Razah yet).

So I bought myself more space that way (3 mules core account all chapters linked +1 NF presell, 2 mules on wifes chp1 only account :b) but now its even more spread out on the heroes lol, so I tried to make it logical.

And I'm not an insane packrat or buyer/seller. I probably need to ditch 3 chapters of collectibles and give up with those, but I love trying everything and don't like to lose possibilities. I like configurations on all my characters, and am disappointed heroes can't hold their extra configurables of runes and equipment they might use - yeah, you guessed it, more to carry/swap.

We don't have a true auction house, it'd still be nice to get a really good shot in the arm to storage. I understand there has to be a limit, it just seems to continue to be rather painful to gather and utilize what you want, when you want it, with the little 20 slot storage window across your growing # of characters, and then their heroes, and different build requirements (eg equipment), goals (eg collector turn ins), target areas (eg keys), modding stuff (inscriptions, runes, insignias, handles, wraps, etc) and more.

And then per character, a couple superior runes of holding and a key ring =D
Now that'd be some winterday party happiness

I'm looking forward to the event and you've kept it interesting, just you have some (now long-standing) fans looking for one of the best games they play to keep getting better, and suggesting to that fact.

Man I got long but one last thing - Razah as a DoA reward and a normal Ritualist. I think that was a mistake and it'll be something else to collect that final hero for all the PvE chars you have that might want a Ritualist. I hope in general at least one of each class will be out there, and I think this move was unfortunate. A Ritualist already in tow and going for a shape-shifter would have been a better move (and at least the latter had seemed to be what you were going for) IMO.

cheers, and happy wintersday (looking forward to finding out whats up with the candy canes!)

I suspect the hesitance to added storage has to do with a fear that professional farmers would harm the economy even more. I don't believe it is a question of priority, it would be trivial to program.

I would personally be happy to pay the price of a character slot for the equivalent extra Xunlai storage space. Much more convenient than using a mule.

I haven't played since the summer and am now just starting to get back into the game. Forgive me if this has already been asked and answered, but you currently do not have a hat on your account, is there a way to get one for the Wintersday event? Or am I just out of luck? Thanks.

We haven't gotten the Wintersday hats yet so you're in luck, you can still get them. It will be available on January 1st. Visit www.guildwars.com for more info on the Wintersday event.

How do u get hats to begin with?

The hats are often given as a gift from those characters who are the "Guest Stars" of our events. For instance, Mad King Thorn gave Halloween hats to guests who were within his circle during the Halloween event. Last year, Grenth and Dwayna vied for our favour, and whichever god took the most votes in a given district, a hat was received by all present.

In other words, hats or head gear or "chapeau" as The Frog calls them are not something that you buy, or trade for, or craft. They are gifts, freely given, during the finale of special events. You may find yourself the proud owner of such a gift during the Wintersday Finales, of which there will be 9. The first starts at 12:01 a.m. PST (8:01 GMT) on January 1st. The last and final finale (if that makes sense) begins at 12:01 a.m. PST (8:01 GMT) on January 2nd. Yes, you must be present. No you cannot trade with others to obtain the gift. Yes, the Festival Hat NPC can make a copy of a single hat to share with all the characters on that account.

Hope that information helps!

Wha? (j/k, made sense to me)

Thanks for this info. I was wondering if all the hats were obtainable, or if it was gonna be a "one-shot" deal. And since there's 9 times total, there should be plenty of chances to grab all the hats.

I'm not doing this just to be contradictory, but I'd like to set the record straight. Since we're speaking of all "hats or head gear" from the special events, the dragon masks were most definetely an item we had to trade for, and were by no means "freely given" as a gift. It took a lot of effort to round up enough jade wind orbs to get those hats for all my characters. It would have been nice to have this hat NPC then! Oh well, such is life.

That being said, I love the hat NPCs, I think they're a brilliant solution to the situation. It lets us free up inventory slots and freely distribute the hats to our other characters, while at the same time requires a minimal amount of additional server space for Anet.

I just have one request. Could we get something similar for the Holiday weapons (candy cane weapons/shields etc)? I understand that these items are not customized, and this would create a danger that the items could be passed around and duplicated. I've thought of two possible solutions to this. One would be that the item must be customized before submitting it to the NPC. The other would be to have the item consumed when shown to the NPC, say he has to disassemble it to "analyze" the construction. Then, any new item created by the NPC would be customized. Something like this would greatly help out, especially now as there are 9 candy cane weapons, 2 shields, a focus, plus all the wintergreen gear.

P.S. Ok, one more request I guess, I just thought I'd echo the sentiments that it would be nice to be able to add a hat npc to our guild halls.

What're you talking about? Getting 250 orbs was easy as pie. Doing all 4 quests got you 240 orbs and those quests weren't even hard, then go out and kill until you'd gain another 10 orbs and you have yourself 250 orbs. But if you were too lazy to do the quests then you could just by a stack of 250 from anybody in the town.

I think that Gaile means "trade for" as in tradeable with other players.

You cannot trade a customized armor piece. This is true

Not to be confused with obtained via trading a quest item.

I seriously don't think this is what she meant. When you include her words about the items being "freely given," it's pretty clear she is referring to how with wintersday and halloween, you get the hats just for showing up. However, this was clearly not the case for the dragon festival/day of the tengu. Also consider that the question she responded to was how to get the hats, not if they could be traded from other players. Stop twisting the meaning to justify the words.

And as for the quests, sure they were easy for a level 20, but I only had a couple characters that far. Try doing the quests with a level 12 or 7! Buy the orbs? And encourage farming? We can't have that now, can we (insert sarcastic laugh here).

If we show the hat maker our hats can we then delete them from every character on that account and safely have him recraft them when I would like it on a certian character on that account..? Would save loads of space.

I know I could have one on one character and a different on another keeping each on in circulation but clearer bags is what Im after.

Also, give us residential places so we can store sets of armour and weapons in, but thats another thread altogether, lol..!

I felt the Hatmaker NPC idea really proved its worth today. I managed to get all four available hats during one visit pretty easily, and since I only had to do it on that one character, I was sorted ^^

I much prefer it to plain hat storage and having to do that for each character again just to get the hats to put IN storage.

Gaile, I don't know if this is a bug or intentional but I thought I'd mention it anyway..

The copies that the npc makes of the original dragon masks are a bit... well.. inferior. They don't have the layered polys on the back, just a flat texture of the dragon 'mane'...

Kinda nitpicky to bring up I know...

The hat npc is awesome though. Saves time and storage. Thanks !!!

So would I be correct in assuming that the Hat NPC will only be around for the event and then he's gone...at least until the next week event? Or will the NPC be around indefinetely. Sorry if this has already been discussed, but there is way too many post and threads to weed through to find this out. Thanks.
