Pettition to Bring Back Mod-ability of Bonus Items
Darksun
Bonus items were great when you could mod them. They looked cool, had decent stats and were actually USEFUL when you could customize them into your own personal weapons. It was nice to have something for getting a Collectors or pre-order that was good for use in-game. Now they are buffers for heros (untill you can get them a really good weapon) and a novelty for lower-mid level chartacers.
With the exception of a few of them Shield, holy/fire focus, I don't think even my heros will use them for long. At any rate, the bonus items used to be great. Now... I don't even use em much any more. It would be nice to make my bonus items "mine" and change it to fit my play style. As it is now, it's just kinda .. meh.

Yeah we gave Anet extra money because we support them they could atleast let us mod and dye the weapons we earned for our money.

I like my bonus items from the GOTY ESP the skins, but the mods really suck.

I bought GOTY pack last night and the first thing I tried to do--Mod them doh!

Who cares? Get new items for your heroes. The bonus items are there because Anet felt like saying "Hey, here's some free stuff to tide you over until you start finding real items." not "This will give you enough weaponry that you'll never have to spend that hard earned money on anything other than skills and armor."
Free is free is free is free. They gave you those items. GoTY didn't cost more than the regular edition did, and if you bought the GoTY for the sole purpose of getting some free items, then I pity you. You wasted 40 or 50 dollars on something that you can easily get from a collector in Factions.

The GoTY was only $5, so it was totally worth it. If they give you free items, they're for using, and + they are uber skins lol. I'd like to use my nevermore flatbow with mods I WANT.

Wow that sounds kind of hypocritical if you ask me.
Both were not free just used different currency. People make it sound like the bonus items have no cost at all and thats not true.
Nickhimself
Not, it doesn't sound hypocritical at all.
I have the GoTY edition. I use the bonus items on most of my heroes. If I feel like they aren't good enough, what do I do? I wait until something drops and then mod it with what I have lying around and give it to my hero.
For example, on my warrior, Koss is equipped with a gold Req 11 Fellblade, 14^50 and +26 hp. Goren has a Req 9 Gemstone Axe with 18% sundering and +5 armor.
Both have the Adamantine Shield from Margonite Masks (-5 20%, +30) that you can get from the collector in the GoM.
Before that, they both used the Sundering Rhino's Charge. Did I complain? Nope. I adapted through gaming.
Now, did I wonder why they took the ability to mod those weapons away? Sure. Everyone who had them did. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't. But, did I really, honestly care? Nope. You shouldn't care that much either. Go play for a little while and you'll find something better than a Tiger's Roar or a Poisonous Nevermoor Flatbow.
Also, that's Prophecies level gear. Look at the NF stuff. Fiery Sunspear of Warding? Icy Soulbreaker of Enchanting? both have inherent damage bonuses, AND a prefix / suffix.
Hell, I have better scythes but still use the IS for farming, and you can bet General Morghan is running around with that /bonus shield and spear.
Also, to reply directly to your post. No, I never said go spam Kaineng looking for collector's items to turn-in. Go farm them. Then, not only are they free, but you'll make a little money while you're at it.

I'm an artist. I like ART. that's why I buy games and that's why I got the Collectors edition. And that's why I got the GOTY ed. Because the ART for the new weapons is cool. I'd like to USE things without having a negative to how I fight. I don't care if the Items are blank, inscribable weapons, I would like to use them and customize them cuz they look cool.
You also haven't explained (at all) how making them mod-able makes them more powerful. Because you can't. I have collectors items all over the place for my Heros. I would still have to mod my GOTY stuff to make them equivalent. Which is acctually HARDER to do than get collectors items. I just want the skins.
I'm sorry that you don't appreciate skins & art, but for those of us who do, we'd like the ability to build are heros and characters in our own unique way. As it is now, using a hammer that has a Rhino head means you have to give up any health bonus on a weapon that allready negates the +16 armor you get from a shield. Sounds silly to me..

Thats basically the definition of hypocritcal. I mean your still paying for the items and the mods so you still have to spend money on your weapons its just one way actually helps Anet out.

Don't see why not. what's the use of cool skins if you don't fight with them because the stats are crap?

I say go all the way and make them modable, dyable, recreateable if you already have one, and inscribable.
In fact why not just let PvE chars use the J button to "make" bonus items as they want them? Maybe you have to choose among equivilants (elemental damages would be one group, vamp/zealous another, added condition effects another, etc). This would be good for the player because using the /bonusitem commmand makes all the bonus items for your account when you just might want one of them.

I'll probably buy the GOTY upgrade if the weapons are moddable. Otherwise, I don't really see the point.

Example: /BonusIcySoulbreaker
ect.
We don't need to choose all that other stuff. If you want mods just buy them like your other weapons.
I agree about them being dyeable though.

I can see why the original mods cant be salvaged, and even if they made it so we cudnt salvage what we put on it, would be ok, the Soulbreaker is by far the best scythe skin, but its useless for what I want it for.

I don't really care about not being able to change the mods on the bonus items, but at least allow us to add mods where there aren't any. I'd like to be able to add a 20% enchanting to the Spiritbinder, or a +5 armor to the Nevermore Flatbow.

Yes, the idea is to be able to put mods on bonus items that would replace the old mods which we could only get back by going out and buying the mods again then placing them back on or just destroying the weapon and remaking it. You wouldn't be gaining anything just the freedom to have different mods on the bonus items.

The bonus items are fine. They are max damage, right? I'm almost 100% sure they are, and that's all that really matters. You don't have to have the 15^50 mod in order for the weapon to be useful. Heck, I don't think more than 2 of my heros even have max damage weapons on any of my chars, yet I still beat Nightfall once perfectly fine, and I'm getting through it on my other chars perfectly fine. BTW, I use heros a lot.
Now if they can't be dyed, that's another story. It won't accually affect you, except you won't look as good, and nothing can replace good looks.

An yes this is largely about vanity but then again so is Guild Wars in general.
15k Armors are the same as 1k armors they just look better. Rare weapons skins function the exact same as the weapons you can craft they just look better. Tormented weapons are extremely difficult to get and for what? Again its the skin!
Even in PvP you can choose different skins for armors for nothing more then looks.

Since you can create them as often as you want, it seems unreasonable to be able to mod them.
Maybe if they changed it so that it each weapon was created only once then the ability to mod them would seem more reasonable.

Remember people bonus items were moddable for a long time and they never created an upset. I think modding the bonus items was disabled accidentally when they added inscriptions.
Stupid Shizno
anet really should look into allowing modding of these weps, the skins on some are really unique and i would like to sport them off in GvG.

IMO all those bonusitems, minus the serrated shield, are kinda useless now... I really like the Nevermore flatbow skin. In the past i was able to add a healthgrip to it, but now i cant do that anymore

I saw the £3 upgrade yesterday, and bought it on impulse - really just for the bow, as I thought the skin looked cool. Was really disappointed when I couldn't add a grip to it.

I just bought the upgrade, and the weapons only seem to have one mod on them. I would like to be able to add the second to use them on my heroes.
