Yeah, hitting all enemy's with regular attacks was very over powered, now with Attack skills only it does that

Mysticism used to have triple the effect, so you'd have all-dervish pvp teams with infinite health and energy easily.

I believe Mysticism gave 1 energy for every 2 points. And the scythe used to hit 3 targets, but those did not have to be in-front. I think other skills had lower recharge or there were different things about them. But mainly it was the energy managment. With such high energy gain, they could spam out destruction.

Also, the nerfed the Monk skill Contemplation of Purity by making it a Divine attribute skill. I forgot what the skill was like before the nerf, but it was overpowered on the derv
twicky_kid
Myst was 1 energy and 3 hp for every 3 ranks.
Scythe did aoe dmg around yourself instead of only adjacent to your target.
All aoe holy dmg enchantments did 100+ dmg and had a nearby range.
Contemplation of purity removed all enchantments and removed 1 condition and 1 hex for each.
You would max out myst. Pack all the aoe enchanments from myst and wind prayers. Take a team of 8 dervishes with Balth avatar. Run up to a target spike the aoe enchantment. You would kill 2-3 foes at a time. Since they were enchantments contemplation would clean yourself of all conditions and hexes while giving you back 48 hp and 5 energy (16 myst) for each one.
You would deal an aoe armor ignoring dmg. Immunity to conditions and hexes. 110 def vs physical and elemental dmg and a 33% run boost on top of that. Myst provided all the healing they would ever need.

It's always been in the divine attribute. They nerfed it by making the number of hexes and conditions removed per enchantment dependant on the amount of attribute points in divine.

I wouldn't call it a nerf, I'd call it a very much needed balance.

And it was balanced by nerfing it, AKA making it weaker. It was definetaly needed though.

If I recall, some of our elites were not elite at the time either. I don't recall which ones, but I remember reading skill description and *really* wanting to try some combinations out in PvE that later were impossible.
I know during the PvE preview event attacking three enemies adjacent to you really rocked. You pretty much had the consistently highest damage dealer in the game. If you play one now you know how easy it is to live with +health/hit and how fast you can kill a group if you can get them to all line up? You didn't have to get them to line up, just stand adjacent to you (IIRC at one point the scythe was also a little larger than adjacent too).
While I would like such a beast to play around with, if balance is something you wanted then all the changes were pretty much needed. As is, a well played Dervish (at least in PvE) is one of the stronger classes IMO. I'm sure a lot of that really hurt in PvP also - essentially a constant unstripable 9-41 AoE damage to 3 adjacent foes every 1.75 seconds? Way better than Balthazar's Aura - a 25e stripable enchant.

"Nerf" is supposed to imply that it was made unnessarily weak.
He was saying this wasn't like that, because it was merely balancing it.
Today the word "nerf" is thrown around and applied to about any change in the game though...

Thx all that helped! He wasn't explaining it to you, he was arguing with the guy that said it was a much needed balance, not a nerf.
And that's NOT spamming.

Wasn't Signet of Pious Light also reduced in effectiveness? I recall it being more potent during the WPE.

Why the hell did Blizzard nerf Marines' attack damage?

This is usually done by releasing a game update. knives

You do know that urban dictionary and guildwiki has information that can be inputted by anyone right? Whether it is right or not depends on the agreement of opinions between those approving what is written. To me nerf just means the toy gun I use to shoot darts at my sister with.

I don't care what nerf means, I asked a question and people seem to understand what I mean! thx to all that answered.

the skill sand shards was also changed to only scythe attacks. In the pvp weekend that skill was dominating on A/D. Use sin skills out of order and do like 34 dmg to everyone around you real fast. They changed it within i think 2 hours

Nerf is a kind of foam used for toys.
It's also a term for decreasing the power or value of anything virtual (items, skills, monsters etc.) in computer games. It has nothing to do with whether or not it was an unnecessary change, the sole act of reducing the effectiveness of something is called nerfing. The reason people have come to believe it means "an unreasonable balance change" is because people will usually complain when something has been nerfed; the ones who played the characters using the overpowered skill, the ones farming the too-easy mobs for mad profits, the ones using the items that were too strong and thus gave an unfair advantage and so on. Venus was her name
I think when something is "nerfed" its supposed to be completly useless. not really when its been balanced and is now fair.
Wrath of m0o
Think of a nerf football, its soft and squishy. Doesnt hurt as much as a real football when it hits you in the face by greg brady. So when something is nurfed, it means it's powers were reduced.
On the derv, yeah it got nurfed, and from what im reading its getting nurfed again. Thats why im using a derv for farming, and not going to complete the game with him. I would get upset investing that many hours into a character and having him Nurfed. Kijik Oni Hanryuu
dude just about everything gets nerfed... it's still being able to use a nerfed class that makes the difference.Getting a fire ele nuker through proph before Factions or NF came out FTW.
AuraofMana
Anet's been sleeping on the job... how do you not see that imbalance coming when they made dervish -.-
Honestly, it didn't take a genius to put the strategy together... heck, several people posted about Dervish and COP before NF Preview event just by looking at: Dervish = Enchantments, lots and lots of enchantments that hurt when they end. Monk = End enchantments fast, also heals you and cleanses hex and conditions. Zomg! Myria

You're assuming that it wasn't intentional. What better way to build excitement about a new class than make them ZOMGWTFHax! overpowered and let people play with them for a weekend, knowing you're going to nerf the holy rat-poop out of them later? It happened with 'sins, it happened with dervs, and you can safely bet both kidneys that it'll happen with one or more of the upcoming classes.
