Hello, I am new to Guild wars and do I NEED to have the video cards that are labeled on the site? Because I don't, and every few minutes the colors in the game are all funky purples and blues and it lags like crazy. I have also had the computer suddenly shut off.
Is it because of my video card? (1 year old) Is it necessary for me to change my video card to play the game? please respond soon. thx

Onboard Graphics are notoriously slow. I think thats where the problem lays. You can pickup a cheap video card these days that support all the latest DX9.0c feature set.

what video cards would you suggest? as long as it supports most new games, is affordable, and, umm... is affordable lol.
Former Ruling
Onboard Graphics controllers, nomatter how new, are HORRIBLE at playing anything because no matter how new and fast they are they almost always lack most of the effects that games nowadays need (This is what is causing your coloring issues).
Basically, any Card made in the past 1-2 years will play Guild Wars from what I've tested... The ones specced on the box you do not need to run Guild Wars effectively. You might have to go with mid-low detail effects on lower cards, but there isn't considerable lag. Even the old 5400FX or w/e's can run it.

any specific video cards?

A 7600gt should definately be able to handle Guild Wars. You can have a look at NewEgg for one. Around $120 would be a good price for one.
Or you could pick up a Sapphire X1900GT for $149. If you have the money for the 1900gt, it's definately a better buy.

Yeps the one he/she said in the previous post. Even a card from the previous generation would suffice. I.e. 6600 or X800GT.

If your PC has an AGP slot, I'd recommend an ATI 9250..can get one for less than $100, and it handles GW well...

An ATI 9250? That probably would be just about as good is the integrated graphics he has now. That was the low-end card 2 or 3 generations ago. At least recommend a DirectX 9 card.
