I've been playing GW for about 8 months now and one reason why I was drawn into the game was the items. I started out in prophecies and I was interested in gameplay mostly but also I thought the warrior weapons and spell castor items were awesome. Now, I've bought and beat Factions and Nightfall and I can't help but feel that the new weapons and items are much duller than the old ones. It may seem cheezy or generic but I like collecting and using awesome looking weapons for my pvp/pve warrior. I'm sure many people do the same and they do it for other classes also.

For now, I'm gonna put swords as an example on the discussion table. I've loved the prophecies swords such as wingblade, fellblade, spatha, longsword, etc and I feel that these weapons are much more (How can I put it)*Cooler* compared to the elonian weapons. I believe it's partially because the size porportion to the character Model. With the new weapons such as Aerowind Blade, Fiery Gladius, Elonian Blade, and Machete, these weapons look like toothpicks compared to the average size of swords in prophecies/Factions. I hope I'm not the only one who thinks that these items seem disproportional to the big and tough character models of warriors. So many times have I found Elonian items and I didn't want to use it because it made my warrior look like he's running into a battlefield with a dagger.

Another issue I found was the regurgitation of old skins and low details on skin designs for items. The regurgitation of old skins such as plagueborn items renamed for new nightfall items didn't bother me too much but it was rather disappointing to me when I found out. The low details and polygon count on some items such as igneous mauls and igneous swords were disappointing also but did not affect me too much either.

My point is that after Factions, much of the items seem less glamorous and looked disproportional to the character models. Of course, many people would have different opinions about the new items because everybody has their own taste. However, you cannot deny that the average sizes of new items in GW are much smaller then the old, and because of this, many items seem disproportional to character models such as warrior items to warriors.

Honestly, these issues are making me much less interested in PVE GW but I still play alot due to the pvp elements of GW. I hope Anet reads this so they can improve and update even though it may take a lot of effort. Wow, it feels like I've written en essay =.= sorry, I hope you guys agree.

Totally agree with you Chapter1 had far superior skins compared to the following chapters.

My personal favs are Summit Axe and Brute Sword..proper weapons that actually look like sword/axes.

Most of the newer skins are more fantasy based..eewww

Elemental sword anyone?

I agree though, I LOVE the realist skins, like gothic sword, flamberge, longsword ect...

I really cant say I'd want to buy a single skin from any weapon in nightfall... I think thats one of the areas they slacked on to get the game out in time.

well the Desolation Maul from Nightfall looks really really wicked. As far as other (sword/hammer/axe) skins, I like the Barrel Hammer kind of. It's pretty neat. The scimitar-like skins they have are decent.

whether you like the skin or not, it depend on your own taste. And also how well you can match your weapon with your cloth/dress/armor

Actually I think factions has the best weapons set, both on a technical level with sharper textures and more effects, but also the looks, they're more varied and more imaginative (only the crenallated sword looks like total poo, like someone made their first weapon in 3d max, disproportionally big and has lots of blunt and big squares).

Elonian weapons look... weird.

There's a lot of nice new caster weapons too that I've been thinking about buying.
Believe me, I've been looking and I've looked at every item. Other then the very expensive elonian swords such as elemental sword, colossal simitar, there is no other sword I would consider about buying because of the size proportion to my characters. It's kinda like GuildWars advertising about how awesome it is to beat the game and get a LEGENDARY forgotten SWORD, but when you do you realize that it is similiar in size to a shortblade or dagger and so is most of the new weapons with nightfall.

It really is just a matter of taste.

As for detail-wise, all the weapons are game-quality. They skip corners and cut as much as possible to preserve memory.

Some weapons are better than others, some are just flat polygons with alpha texture cuts. Proportion-wise is the only real problem with the weapons.

If the Vertebreaker was much bigger, it would be a much more wanted item.

I agree with the OP on weapon skins, GWP has the best weapons skins imho with factions following close behind. Factions has some of the best armours skins...some of NF armours were worse than GWP's.

Most of Elonian weapons skins either look extremely cool (Death sword) or extremely crappy (i give up go check it yourselves)

Size and looks of weapons does matter, i dont think anyone like to use something that looks like a umbrella from the discount section of Kmart to fight a Dragon or save the world....last i check we are not playing in Harry Potter's world.

bhavv unfortunately not many players care about hammers least use them, which is why they are the least valued *coughs* worthless*cough*weapons in the game sadly.

Even the Factions Elite mission Kanaxai's Mallet is worth less than 10k even though its a great skin and Kanaxai's Axe is worth less than 30k even though it is a unique skin because its size is disportionate. Kanakai's Axe look like a old frying pan in size than a real weapon.

You realise this entire thread is personal opinion right? Fellblades are the single ugliest weapon in the game, not just sword. Who cares if it's huge when it looks like you went to the wreckers and picked up a piece of scrap metal?

Fellblades are similar to poorly crafted swords of the old days...I never use to be a fan of fellblades but the skins on the newer items made me realize they ain't that bad.

Yea I know it'sall about personal opinion but if there is no disagreement this thread will die quickly

In your opinion that is. I think nightfall has the best looking swords in the game as well, but someone else already linked them. Look through the wiki list

I agree that fellblades and brute swords are the ugliest swords in the game and wouldnt ever want one.
