I've been playing GW for about 8 months now and one reason why I was drawn into the game was the items. I started out in prophecies and I was interested in gameplay mostly but also I thought the warrior weapons and spell castor items were awesome. Now, I've bought and beat Factions and Nightfall and I can't help but feel that the new weapons and items are much duller than the old ones. It may seem cheezy or generic but I like collecting and using awesome looking weapons for my pvp/pve warrior. I'm sure many people do the same and they do it for other classes also.
For now, I'm gonna put swords as an example on the discussion table. I've loved the prophecies swords such as wingblade, fellblade, spatha, longsword, etc and I feel that these weapons are much more (How can I put it)*Cooler* compared to the elonian weapons. I believe it's partially because the size porportion to the character Model. With the new weapons such as Aerowind Blade, Fiery Gladius, Elonian Blade, and Machete, these weapons look like toothpicks compared to the average size of swords in prophecies/Factions. I hope I'm not the only one who thinks that these items seem disproportional to the big and tough character models of warriors. So many times have I found Elonian items and I didn't want to use it because it made my warrior look like he's running into a battlefield with a dagger.
Another issue I found was the regurgitation of old skins and low details on skin designs for items. The regurgitation of old skins such as plagueborn items renamed for new nightfall items didn't bother me too much but it was rather disappointing to me when I found out. The low details and polygon count on some items such as igneous mauls and igneous swords were disappointing also but did not affect me too much either.
My point is that after Factions, much of the items seem less glamorous and looked disproportional to the character models. Of course, many people would have different opinions about the new items because everybody has their own taste. However, you cannot deny that the average sizes of new items in GW are much smaller then the old, and because of this, many items seem disproportional to character models such as warrior items to warriors.
Honestly, these issues are making me much less interested in PVE GW but I still play alot due to the pvp elements of GW. I hope Anet reads this so they can improve and update even though it may take a lot of effort. Wow, it feels like I've written en essay =.= sorry, I hope you guys agree.
