Spam

My friend and I have had an on going debate on spamming. It's kind of two debates and theyre both kind of pointless (this is a good time to leave). The first debate is about the rate of spam I say that anything that is reppetitevly put into chat no matter how fast for a long period of time (like an hour) is spam. He says it doesnt matter how long a duration it's put in he says if they put 5 messages in chat in like 5 seconds thats spam. The second is I say all spam is frowned upon. He says that just spam that is pointless (like Bob is a ***) is frowned upon. He thinks that guild and trade spam is okay. Who is right on both of these?

Reapeated messages like

Which kind is frowned upon?

Only the repetitive sell messages like above..the sell channel is basically for trade spam it's just some people take it too far.

The constant spamming of the "All" channel channel can be quite annoying. Usually, I just ignore it, but it can get irritating. My opinion is that spamming Guild stuff is acceptable so long as they don't do it repetitively in a short period of time.

The WTS or WTB spamming in the "All" channel is what ticks me off though. Hello!!!!! Trade spam is what the "Trade" channel is for. I don't know how many people just don't realize or know that you're supposed to use trade channel and not the all channel for trading, but for those that don't care and use the all channel anyway.....then poop on you. However, even in the trade channel some people disrespectfully spam the channel too often.

Bottom line is that with over a million players (or whatever the number) you're going to get all types of people with different sets of age/values/personalities/....etc and you're always going to see poor internet ettiquete whether you like it or not.

I wait a good 1-20 seconds before reposted in the Trade channel.
I don't post WTS in the local chat channel.
It's also a good idea to use the 'p' menu to advertise anything instead. Whether that is trade, guild recruitment, mission help....ect (each has it's on section in the 'p' window)
So far it's gone okay.

Well, I don't mind people spamming the trade channel with "WTS perfect 15^50 _______ 100k + 50e" but spam I do frown upon would include:

Trade spam in the "all" channel
pointless "all" channel spam "I like pie. I like pie. I like pie." etc.
LFG spam in an un-populated mission or outpost, noone else is saying anything in the "all" channel and yet you see "GLF monk, GLF monk, GLF monk" "W/Mo LFG, W/Mo LFG, W/Mo LFG"
That's what really gets under my skin.

As far as I am concerned one single post to buy or sale anything in any channel besides trade channel is spam. Anything posted more than once within 30 seconds is spam. With the addition of the party window trade feature there is really zero reason to post anything for sale at all, it is easier to read, and you don't have to compete with all the idiots that think they need to spam all their overpriced junk. Since the new trade feature in the party window was added I have used it almost exclusively for all trades.

icedragon981 raises a good point also, if there are zero monks in a town there is no reason to constantly post "GLF Monk" it just makes you look stupid and should also be considered spam.

Spam is when someone posts 3 new topics within 10min of eachother in Riverside :P

oh thank god. The moment I saw the thread title, I was expecting the worst. Thank god it started raining christmas mince pies and gooey gooey gum diddlies. I couldn't bear to read the rest (even though I did. Which is pretty funny, becuase that entire post looked just like spam... mmm.... spam.)

Yeah, because whenever I jump out of a brown toy aeroplane that flies on fairy dust, I'm not thinking about the time I went to Australia to visit my cousins twenty-first, while reciting the abc's in an unorderly fashion, thanks to the efforts of my general commander who doesn't exist because I thought that my best friend had made her up, even though she wasn't really that good looking after she got hit with a blowup hammer, though, the blowup hammer could have hit better things... like a brown toy aeroplane.

Use the trade channel or trade in Party search... just stop carrying on and on. If no one is buying then take a hint.

Haha, when people tell spam like buttholes, I always tell them spam is against the UA and when they don't believe me, I copy and paste the agreement and tell them to actually go read it. Nothing drives me more crazy than WTS REQ 8 CRYSTALLINE PERFECT MODS 100454309587903475348957 ECTOS!!!!!!!! Over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Yeah, like the dude I saw the other day in Frontiers gate, almost all by himself, spamming "WTB FORKES SOWRD!!" in the all channel. I suggested he might try going to Ascalon instead, seeing as no one was around, and he says I KNOW and keeps spamming.
