AHHH! Unable to progress in storyline - literally impossible
Splatter Mcnasty
I started a Dervish over the weekend. As soon as I got into Kamadan, I got a ferry to Consulate Docks, bought max armor, then got a ferry to Lions Arch. From there, I did Mhenlos Quest, to get over into Factions. In Factions, I did all the quests in Kaineng Center (3k xp reward each!). After doing every single quest in and around Kaineng Center and Marketplace, I then went back to Prophecies and worked my way through the desert and ascended.
Keep in mind that I had not yet received a 2ndary profession, because I left Nightfall as soon as I was able so that I could level up faster. Here is a screenshot of me in the Fissure of Woe, right after I had ascended in the desert (notice the lack of a secondary profession)
After that, I went back to Nightfall and began doing all the quests for Sunspear promotion points. I have done every single quest, but am unable to reach the rank of Second Spear (175 sunspear points) because the quests only give you a total of 145 points. The reason why I cannot progress in the story any further is because none of the Sunspear Scouts will give me bounties! They tell me that I am too high level and to go elsewhere to kill things more appropriate to my level...
So as of right now, I am locked out of 2 towns (Blacktide Den, and other one south of the Cliffs).
ANet: If you ever read this, you need to do the following: add a few more quests in Kamadan which have Sunspear promotion point rewards, or stop the ferrying so that nobody else hits this wall....
I wish there was some way for me to move ahead in the storyline, but it looks like my only choice is to abandon Nightfall on this character and play through Prophecies and Factions, or just delete him and start over....

Yeah, this is a wellknown problem.

Shouldn't you just farm some points BEFORE you leave?
natuxatu
Still no game especially a MMORPG should make you stuck in your tracks. They should fix at least one of the things he did to stop this from happening.
Apparently it's well known but I haven't heard of it before... that sucks.

What's with this powerleveling mentality? In Guild Wars of all the games.
And yea, delete and restart.

Apparently it's well known but I haven't heard of it before... that sucks. From OP:
"As soon as I got into Kamadan, I got a ferry to Consulate Docks, bought max armor, then got a ferry to Lions"
That is an exploit. If you exploit, you can get stuck. You're not supposed to get ferried at level 2 to another continent.
At least GW gives you a nice option to skip the content if you're power player, but it doesn't change the fact that you're illegally bypassing the storyline.
This isn't gamebreaking, so they allow it. But it's not supported.
If anything, vote for removal of ferrying, not for falling into a know issue when bypassing the required storyline.
Overall, more players benefit from this, than the unfortunate few that feel the need to be level 20 before leaving the island.

Just delete the character, learn a lesson in try to cheat your way through. If you are going to cheat, at least learn to cheat the right way
Carinae
Triple check wiki. There are a lot of quests, you only need 2-3 more....

If you go to Issnur Isles or Mehtani Keys you can take bounties even if you're level 20. My level 20 characters from Tyria and Cantha are able to take those bounties.
Keira Darkwind
You can't access those areas without having beat Jokanur Diggings, I believe.
Ensign
There are exactly 165 Sunspear Points worth of quests that you can get before you can do the Jokanur Diggings mission. You need 175. Really annoying.
MercenaryKnight
Do consulate docks mission in someones party, go to the other side and try to find sunspear farming bounties there to be able to get them back from main island quests.
Or join a prophecies/ factions char and do the new mission at champions dawn which gives you 4 points each one you slay. I got like 600 sunspear points re-doing the mission 2-3 times.

Mark Nevermiss
Somehow I doubt this will work.

Guess Anet never thought about people doing this skipping arround thing, send a letter to them, they will probaly fix this soon.
sevendash
Skipping around doesn't matter. I have a lv12 going for Survivor in Kamadan, and I don't have any other cities mapped. No ferries, never even been in a team with another person. Luckily I farmed a good 60-70 points before reaching 8, so I should be okay, but this is very much possible to run into without using any exploits, and should get fixed.
Crom The Pale
the simplest fix would be to set the farming based on your sunspear rank.
ie: you can collect points for lvl 1-3 on the first few maps and for rank 4-5 you have to farm in the keys, on the main land anything up to torment lands would be for lvls 6-7 and tormanet should last until maxed sunspear rank.

Ultimate Shogun
This same thing happened to me with my ele. Hes stuck in Istan. he needs 12 more points to get any farther. I cant farm and i did every quest possible. I would delete him but that night when i leveled him up in factions i went and got my fow armor...
Jeff Highwind
I rolled Yuki specifically to be a survivor. Despite grabbing a ferry to the Docks, I did all the Istan quests well before ferrying to Tyria and Cantha. The glitch can be avoided if you get ferried to Docks but you have to be REALLY cautious.
Nickhimself
Sorry, but this really is your fault. Why weren't you able to just wait until the story moved you to where you needed to be, rather than be extremely impatient?
I mean, seriously. This game is easy enough as is...there's no reason to power level.

The bounties have two limitations, both limitations were known since day 1 of the preview. Limitation one is sunspear rank, limitation two is your level vs monster level. i.e. if the highest level monsters of the species in the bounty are too love for your level to gain XP from them, the scout will not give you the bounty. This is why you can take the skale and insect bounty in Issnur Ises but not the Plant and Corsair ones. So, getting too high in level was a mistake if you still needed the two quests that require you to achieve a specific rank in the Sunspear track.
I honestly do not see this as a situation ANet even needs to address. No offense to the original poster. The two restrictions on bounties make sense. If the allowed level 20 chraracters to take bounties killing level 2 monsters, think of the abuses.

Splatter, if you message me IG, I might be able to take you to Jokanur Diggings, and Blacktide Den. I'm not sure, though, it's only a guess. Just add me to your friends list and whisper me.
MMSDome
this just tells you that you shouldnt be ferrying your way around.

I love how people criticize the way I choose to play, and comment on how this is such a well-known problem. I had never heard about it, nor read about it in these forums, so I posted this to warn other people who might choose to take the same route i did.
But, as Ensign confirmed, there is no way for me to continue with that character, so i deleted him and started over...no big loss.

the simple solution is stop the consulate docks ferry (for max armour).
its clearly not supposed to happen, its an exploit.
and it messes up the game.

Horseman Of War
just say no to ferries.
AOD_EaSyKiLL
Ferry to Docks is no more an exploit than running to droks.
The only people that can do it are people that have other characters that are well into the game. It is totally useless to the first time player because they wont have the money or the materials needed to benefit from it.
I don't see any harm in it. The best fix would be to set the bounties on sunspear level as mentioned before, or add enough quests to the game to cover the required sunspear promotions without doing any bounties.

First, other people being ferried to the docks did not screw up my paragon as he played through the game normally.
Second, you can get into Blacktide Den the back way (go through the First City and enter through there) unless they changed that. If you are level 20, then there's not much reason why you shouldn't be on-par with the foreigners coming in. If they don't need that stuff, then I don't think you should either. I don't know why people think it screws up the game by doing stuff like that. It's not like they can do the Docks mission (as it will not let you until you progress there). Adding new quests would seem ok, but yes the easiest for them is to prevent people from ferrying I suppose. Who knows, maybe there's someone that thinks Elona sucks and just wants to take their dervish over and do Tyria or Cantha.

Ignore the holier then thou 'ferries are the devil's work' people, as they must still be playing through the game for the first time and find its plot absolutely enthralling.

What all of you are forgetting is that some of us don't want to repeat the "Grind" of a storyline 10x with 10 seperate characters!

Why would you make 10 new characters in Nightfall? There's only two new classes (the topic here only applies to newly created characters). If 10 characters is too much, don't have that many. Who's forcing you into grind? The Evil Anet? Ah, exploit away then, show the oppressors who the boss is.
And the ferry has nothing to do with grind. The whole storyline, as well as the mandatory quests are still there.
And last thing here is, there's about zero need to powerlevel anything. XP gains are high enough, as well as sunspear rewards.

How does someone know they are "cheating" if they can clearly get a ferry. Sorry but it's something major that needs to be fixed by A.Net. After all if you can be ran somewhere.. is that cheating? There is hardly a difference. Especially since Ferrying in Cantha wasn't cheating.. not everyone is going to know that they're not suppose to.

@ OP
i had the very same experience last month, i lvl'd up in cantha because 3k for a 1 minute quest is good way to lvl up your heros and yourself.
anyway apon reaching lvl20, i talked to the bounty guy outside sunspear great hall, and he wouldnt let me take it, i had 0-10 sunspear points, i cant remember exactially, apon almost deleting character as i had no way to advance, i found a bounty that could earn me mass amounts of sunspear points in a short amount of time.
The west portal @ Jokanur Diggings: Fahranur, The First City
take the bounty soon as u walk outside, turn right, path till it leads you to the place where theres 50 drakes all compacted in tight area, i was a ele at the time with rodgorts, and i distoryed all them in one hit.
I hope someone reads this, and if they made the mistake that the OP and I made, they can carry on.
oh and reasons to ferry to cantha/tyria is:get elite skills(elemental attunement etc), metior shower, rodgorts aquire olias hero(giving him lvl28 flesh golum helps) power leveling through canthan quests

Yes, this could work, but if I recall correctly, it does not work after level 19. I could be wrong, but back in the preview it did not.

Just do the mission. Get the bounties on the mainland. Yes it's that easy ^^.

You need 170 sunspear points to be able to do Jokanur Diggings. I don't think you can do the Docks mission until you have completed the prior missions.

I don't think that anet will fix it as there shouldn't be power levelling and ferrys.....they will never fix it lol! It's not their fault :P
