Bahdok Caverns gate blocking 'do not touch'?

I have been trying to get to the 'do not touch' in Bahdok Caverns, using the wiki map and what people have told me. Well, based on all that I need to pass an area that is blocked by a gate (wiki map has a path that runs strait through this):

(The northern pass is blocked by a similar gate)
I cannot, for the life of me, find out how to pass or open this gate, or even find an alternate route. I've tried killing & not killing the first corsair group, Letting the corsair group come down the path past the waterfall, killing all the corsairs on the level (well, everything before the gates), looking for a lever. I know people have reached the do not touch, how do you get past the gates?

Sounds more to me that you still need to progres story-wise. Couldn't find any other reason why the gate stays locked for you.

You're not doing this from the Moddok Crevice mission, are you? You're supposed to be doing this from the explorable.
