R/Me UW Solo Farming
Video http://files.filefront.com/ranger_uw.../fileinfo.html 34MB Echotrapper Build
I'm playing a while with a build that I use for soloing the UW, now I want to share it
The build is using Echo to lay multiple Dust Traps. It's possible to kill Bladed Aatxes, Grasping Darkness and Smites. You can almost clear the whole Underworld. I tried a few builds to solo the UW with my ranger but either it was damn slow or I just could solo one kind of monsters, this is the best for me because you can kill almost everything.
Some facts that might be interesting:
Bladed Aatxe's have permanent +3 life regen, you should always keep them bleeding, just to make sure that they don't self heal. Also they got a huge pool of health points. They're one of the hardest creatures you're faced with in the whole UW.
Grasping Darkness appear in smaller mobs. They move with 25% more speed compared to yours and like to interrupt your trapping. They're "just" level 24 and fast killed with some dust traps but don't underestimate them. They can still kill you behind the npcs, which you might use to hide.
Dying Nightmare's always pop up out or nowhere and just wand you with moderate kill speed. Their attacks might interrupt you through the effect of whirling defense. Don't waste traps on them, just kill them with your staff after you've killed the Aatxes and Darkness
Smite Crawler's are powerful healers AND smiters. They selfheal their group and kill you in one run. You'll find them in the Ice Wastes after you've taken the "Clear the Chamber" quest. They die on first contact with your traps, so better lure all you've aggroed into the traps.
At first the build:
R/Me
Wilderness Survival 12 + 1 +3
Expertise 12 +1
Beast Mastery 3 (+1 is optional but might be a good idea)
Echo (Elite)
Dust Trap - the main damage dealer
Barbed Trap - crippling and the -3 degen
Flame Trap - the burning effect and some damage
Whirling Defense - the only defense skill
Serpents Quickness - to support QZ
Energizing Wind - to reduce the energy
Quickening Zephyr - for faster recharge
Equipment:
- Superior Vigor (Major might be not enough)
- full druids/radiant armor is necessary
Weapons:
- a staff that gives you +20 energy and +30 (Insightful Staff of Fortitude with a "Hale and Hearty" inscription), something like this:
(I use a crafter staff from Camp Hojanu)
- a longbow/flatbow for luring (optional)
Base HP: 485
Base Energy: 53
How to trap?
One important point. Try to drop your traps near a wall or something because they don't flee that much and you can kill everything in one run.
1. Lay EW and QZ - You will be at nearly full energy when you got them up.
2. Now use Serpent's Quickness and don't make the mistake to echo it
3. Echo -> Dust Trap -> Echo of Dust Trap -> Barbed Trap -> Flame Trap (= one set).
4. Lay another full set after all traps have recharged.
5. Echo will expire and don't forget to use Serpent's again.
5. Lay Dust Trap, Bared Trap, Flame Trap. Don't care about the spirits, you don't need them anymore.
6. Echo has recharged. Lay one full set again.
This is always the same procedure, get used to it
After you layed your traps you should drop something (coin or a pile of glittering dust) to lure into the right spot.
How to lure
Don't waste much time and aggro. Use your staff or step into their aggro circle to lure them, it doesn't matter. Get Whirling Defense up when they're near, you can keep it up for just 18 secs. Now a very important step to make use of the full damage caused by your traps: don't stop at the exact spot where your traps are layed down, go a bit behind that spot:
(side view)
This works very well. Aatxes are directly dead even if they flee. It's also important to tank them if needed, because they always have to walk into the traps with the same distance or else one will be killed and the other one will chase you.
If your trapping fails nothing is lost. You got some nice NPCs you can hide behind, Renault saved my life a few times =) You can trap them to dead behind the npcs, it's absolutely no problem. Sometimes you'll need to kite and make use of the massive degen through flame trap and the crippling of Barbed Trap. Just practice a bit and it will be possible to clear (almost) the entire Underworld.
What to kill first?
At first clear The Hall with his Aatxes and Nightmares, then take the quest as usual. Kill the Grasping Darknesses and go to the Ice Wastes. You'll have to clear the other room which was locked before. Always try lure only one mob, e.g. don't aggro a Aatxe mob and Grasping Darkness' - this will mostly make you fail or make the run unnecessary hard.
Now you can enter the Ice Wastes. In this area it's very important to kite and not to aggro the Coldfire Nights. You got no healing skills and the Spells will slow you down and kill you in a few seconds. It depends on the spawn if you're able to kill all smites because the Coldfires will block a few ways but it doesn't matter, at this point you should have enough money to pay a new run
After this you can clear the Labyrinth or the Forgotten Vale - my inventory was already full at this point.
What nets you a run?
One ecto drops always and the drops aren't bad. My best run these days were 3 ectos, a black dye and 5p in drops and gold. Also you'll mostly see a Phantom Chest on your run.
I'll use this build again and again to get enough ectos for my FoW
Double Echo Trapper

Already explained by Eva
This is the next stage. You can lay 9 Dust traps (1170 pure damage from the dust traps!) instead of 7. It's more reliable because of the huge damage amount but you should be more careful with luring, always watch your health.
Thx to Eva for sharing.

How long does one run take you? This method seems like it's on the slow side, but looks like it works pretty good.

RITUALIST POWER!!! Damn, I never stopped the time or something. I think clearing the hall with all the Aatxes will take 30-40 minutes.
If I think about it I always got my ectos from the Aatxes, they might be even better than Smites. I try to make a video of the run but I'm not very used with the videos programms and stuff.

Thanks was looking for a new build for my ranger. gotta try that one. Its all core skills right? no expensions?
(meh just got back into GW and now i feel the need to buy factions and nightfall )
Use FRAPS to get video. Then google for a video compressor cuz vids recorded with FRAPS are usually huge.

Aatxes have double the ecto droprate of smites... Beauty about the smites though is they come in numbers.

it can also be found in Gyala hatchery (explorable) dont know boss name, look around though, sure to find it.
Bloodied Blade
Interesting concept there....I've tried solo trapping with spike trap as my elite (and trapper's speed) and could almost kill aataxes (got them down to less than 1/3 hp). I guess echoing your dust trap would do it.

30-40 min. to clear first room :/ thats a long time. If you want a good ranger solo build for UW (that doesn't require traps), run a search in the forums
the storm
I couldnt even get past the 1st group of aaxates! my Traps started going off so i pulled em and got them almost dead, but good build anyway, i probably messed up somewhere. BTW, this build kills all the trolls in the troll cave also
PS, could you make a video please?

I like trapping and I tried almost every Ranger Solo build in this forum, nothing was really good, although I get far better drops from the Aatxes than from the Smites.
Damn, my video is bucking for some reason Oo.

The video is up now. I made some shots of Aatxes, Grasps and Smites. I'll expand the Guide later a bit.

Great video! Mind listing how long it takes for you to complete one UW run thru the aatxe room and the smites?

I got a few numbers now. 1:30min for a Aatxe mob and 25-30minutes to the smites. Clear everything? My run today was a bit over 1:30h, with lunch ^^

It is a bit on the slow side, but it does have its advantages, this build can do much more than simple aaxates and smites, while VwK is fast, it can only do smites.
daky
My thinking on the matter is this (profit wise)
one run with traps with aatxe included roughly 1hour + 10 or so min.
three runs with only smites roughly 1 hour + 10 or so min.
If you ask me skipping the aatxe may lose you a possible ecto, but by using different builds (rt/me or r/me) and just killing smites you'll come out ahead money wise.
Don't get me wrong I love trapping, but I find it to be slow. When the whole reason I'm farming is to get money as fast as I can.

it isn't that slow... you have to trap against 9 atxe groups, 2 darkness groups (if you take 2 groups at one time), 10 smities groups and 2-4 coldfires... if you lay full set of traps on each group it should takes 100 sec per group (smites could go down on 75 sec, never tried echo trapping so i dunno). So it should take around 35 minutes + time used on running + mistakes.
! think 50 minutes is all you need to clear the UW... but we still need faster way to get down those atxes and smites... Maybe we get pure damage trap when GW4 comes out or a 90% evade stance to lure those smites all together, who knows. ^^
and this is the same build that the other guy posted but deleted after a while... right? ^^
i'm still afraid about luring those atxes and darknesses with this build, as atxes have 25% constant speed boost and darknesses 33%. I understand that you can always lure them using bow or staff but gathering them all together might be hard... but meh... that's just me... never tried this build, just asking...

I would love more damage based traps! Was happy to see one that caused daze...until I saw that it did no damage other then the applied condition .
Shame they don't give us an energy giving trap After all we do have one that heals.

Reviving pool [elite]
cost 25e, rec 60 sec, act t: 6
for 10 seconds, every ally on the area is ressed with 10...50% max health and 10...25% energy every 2 seconds, this skill is interrupted easily.
just a idea but energysising spring would help to make a great support ranger...

A perfect Aatxe/Grasping run lasts exactly 20 minutes or even less. This run includes all the Aatxe groups in the first room as well as those on the way to the Ice Wastes. In order to complete the run in 20 minutes, you'll have to lure all the Grasping Darknesses (three groups will spawn when you take the 'Clear the Chamber' quest) at once, and you'll have to lure the two Aatxes and the last Grasping group that patrols outside the starting room together.
To kill a single group of Aatxes (2, 3 or 4) takes exactly 80-85 seconds when done properly. In less than 70 seconds you can lay 9 Dust Traps if you use Arcane Echo to copy Echo. With a decent 'walltrapping' you'll be able to kill the Aatxes at the first attempt almost always.
A Smite run lasts around 20-30 minutes since it depends a lot on the spawn. With some practice you can kill two groups of Smites easily enough ('walltrap' and run around with Whirling Defense to gather them together).
This build uses the same skills as the one described by Drupal; the only difference is that you should swap Flame Trap for Arcane Echo.
Skill order:
Ew; Qz; Sq; Arcane Echo; Echo; Dust; copy of Echo; copy of Dust; copy of Dust; Barbed; Dust; copy of Dust; copy of Dust; Sq; Dust; Barbed; Echo; Dust; copy of Dust; Barbed.
Attributes:
16 Wilderness Survival (superior rune); 13 Expertise (minor rune) and 6 Beast Mastery (superior rune).
Health isn't realy that important since Aatxes can kill you in three hits even if you're at full HP. Superior Bm is necessary because of (my) low mana pool. With 6 in Bm your Ew will last 78 seconds, so when it expires you will have around 15 seconds to lure before the traps go off.
Hope it helps.

Probably it's just me but I do have problems to get an ecto in 2/3man teams. Sometimes no ecto drops with the solo I always had at least one ecto. That's the reason why I solo.
Marverick
For some reason in the 3-Aataxe groups 2 of them always manage to hit me through Whirling and kill me in one hit...
Also why not use Trapper's Speed instead of SQ? 25% on recharge and 25% on activation. And it recharges in 20 seconds so you can almost keep it up permanently.

I've had this happen to me a few times, and what I've learned is that when it does happen, don't panic. The heavily wounded aatxe will come back to you if you don't run off, and with Whirling Defense still up, you can quickly drop another Dust Trap to keep him blind and finish him off. I'll usually throw down another Barbed Trap for good measure, but if he's close to death at all, one trap should do the trick. If not, then do as drupal says and run for the NPCs!Quote:

since i don't want to use a second superior rune (i have only 1 set of armor + the 4 masks with different superior runes) i have only 11+1 expertise and 5+1 beastmastery i can still set all traps and still have 1 energy when done so far i couldn't reach the ice wastes. The aatxes behind the door ran around and spotted me before i was done with the traps. First off, you're really better off with a 13 in expertise rather than 12 because of the energy saved. The Superior Beastmastery rune is really worth it. I usually do this by getting an extra pair of gloves or boots to hold the second sup rune as they're the cheapest part of the armor, and a sup BM rune doesn't usually cost that much. If you're going to trap regularly, go ahead and make the investment, you'll be glad you did. One other tip: I've found that once you're used to the build and can work fast, I can slip in an extra Barbed Trap at the start of the chain (in Eva's build, after the first SQ and before the AE). You have to be quick in moving on to the AE->E->DT chain, because that first DT has to be triggered soon enough that when you come back around to it for the third time (the original DT, not any of the echoed copies), you have to be able to lay it just before QZ ends, otherwise when it's time to do the last echo, you'll be waiting for DT to recharge and it gives you less time to pull. Anyway, thanks again to drupal and Eva Gal for their work, and have fun trapping everyone! |
