Rubber-Banding
Lord Toast
Rubber Banding pushed me beyond the limit tonight. I was playing in halls, and our group came up to a relic run. I was the only one with a run skill, so naturally i was the runner. Now, it appeared as though i got out and ran all of the way back to our ghostly. About 10 feet before i reached him, Guild Wars FINALLY realized that I was not actually free of the initial body block. I think that rubber-banding is probably the number one biggest issue in guild wars right now, and definetly needs to be fixed.
As of right now, does anybody know any ways to avoid being rubber-banded?

I get the same thing all the time, very annoying. Once I was soloing the troll cave for old time's sake and I cleared the iniatial mobs of trolls, but decided to run past the warrior bosses mob and look for a chest on the outside. I appeared to get through but was still getting hit by a lot of attacks, I look at my mini-map...It shows me outside but the troll mob in one tight group inside the cave, but I still persisted in taking damage. I knew what had happened but GW never realized this, I (appeared to) die outside the cave and lye there until rezzed at the shrine. This is a very annoying problem but I'm afraid I don't have any tips for you as I'm in the same boat, problem seems to be server-side. Peace.

If you stop using WASD, and click to move, then the rubber banding will stop. WASD is client side so you can run into the problem of the things that happened to you guys happening. But if you click to move, that movement is server side, and the server knows everything going on,every single body block and such. Hope that helps.
VGJustice
Um, I don't think so, Tendaran. I've rubber banded across all of Lion's Arch after mouse clicking.
Don Zardeone
I only rubber band when my isp or router is screwing up.
Try looking there first I say.

i didnt say it didnt happen before, just that it never happened to me before. in 6 months it never happened to me till NF release.

I've personally never had much trouble with "rubber-banding". It happens once in a rare while, and never more than the distance of a few seconds of running. Your internet connection can greatly influence this, and a friend of mine who has a below-average connection does indeed have frequent problems. I suppose there's nothing to do but shell out the extra bucks for a faster conn, or hope that ANet is willing/capable of improving the way it works.
BrotherKurupt
Yes, 5 minutes ago i lost in Sacred Temples because of rubber-banding and lag. I was running relic...then lost connection, regained connection and the relic just dropped by itself lol. oh well, I doubt this is arena net's issue/problem, but it has been happening a lot more frequently these days
Hockster
Try the /stuck comand. It's supposed to try and resync you to the servers. It's worked a few times for me, but not always.
trobinson97
Man, I am so glad I am not the only one. I hadn't seen many topics on it, so I figured it could be my connection. But anyways, yeah I've been having this issue a lot as of late. I just rage quit during a solo farm because of it. It's getting worse and worse for me, I feel like throwing y tower against the wal or something.
fenix
This ALWAYS happens in Unholy Temples to at least 1 of my guildies when we HA. It's a big problem, because there's a 100% guarantee that you'll rubber band on that map, regardless of internet connection/mouse clicking, etc etc. It happens to a lesser extent on other maps and in PvE, but it's still a wide-spread problem that needs addressing.
Whiplashr
One thing that helps when you are in a laggy situation and rubber banding is to watch the way you move, in that you should take long ways around corners and stuff.. cutting corners too quick and trying to take the shortest route through turns is the place where I usually end up rubber banding back to the obstacle I was moving around.
steelwill
I'm not convinced this is entirely a lag issue. Sometimes I'll rubberband back to a res shrine priest I was actually stuck behind. No fighting was going on and the area I walked while actually stuck is dotted on the mini map. I think it's a pathing issue. But whatever it is it is very, very annoying.
The Last Cruzader
The same thing happened to me steel I wasnt lagging at all, usually I get this when turning around a corner while running. At first I thought it was just me lagging until I took some guildies along for them to run around the corner and the same thing happened to them.

bind /stuck to a key using a third party program, then just mash it on relic runs, euro servers have been extra bad with rubber banding recently.

In regards to people rubber banding in HA
Its cause your bodyblocked.....dont get bodyblocked wont have this problem.
You can also use this against the other team ya know.
In saying that I would love for it to stop, its only been a huge problem since they introduced the /stuck command IMO now cause I always get stuck going for the boat

Finally I can put a term to that annoying condition. It happens to me all the time, and personally I cannot remember it happening before NF's release, but that could be just me.
Yanman.be
I retired from HA because of this issue ( and many others ).
When other people rubberband, and they say it on vent, I never notice they rubberband so hard, it doesn't impact or gameplay. But when I rubberband, it's always an entire map, I get stuck behind enemy lines, and GG I'm dead.
Also happens when I can glitch between 2 rit spirts bodyblocking me from the rit owner. As soon as I can hit him, WHAM. Back to square 1.

Yeah... HoH relics are pretty messed up
Ninna
its been a problem since Prophecies (May 2005) for me
its rare tho

Lord Toast
With all the people saying "oh just dont get bodyblocked"... the problem is that 99.9% of all teams in HA right now are this spirit junk. And when you are trying to run you undoubtedly run into a few spirits, which you are forced to run around. I get stuck on them all of the time.

I've had this problem too, and would have thought Anet would fix it by now since it affects PvP and PvE.
leeky baby
ya iv had this alot tonight and the past week, neva had it before thou...i think with these heavy spirt builds does not help the problem ^^

Ive had extreme lag problems since Nightfall's release, with more than my own fair share of rubber-banding. Guildie has Comcast cable, and hes got it too. I know it isnt my connection because I can surf the web fine. Other games do not lag. Only Guild Wars, and then only since the release of Nightfall. Hope Anet does something about this soon, because at times it makes the game impossible to play.
Randomway Ftw
To whoever said don't get bodyblocked, its kind of difficult when you can't tell if your getting blocked or not, if you so much walk near someone you rubberband and realize your still at the stairs in Sacred Temples. It's retarted when your relic runner has to keep ask if where they are over vent.
Vinraith
I'd always understood this to be a lag problem, and certainly I have been seeing more lag since Nightfall. Certainly it'd be nice to see that addressed, but surely it's very much on Anet's radar.
Mr_T_bot
Poor pathing + poor character blocking + poor location detection = crappy PvP.
halbatross
With this amount of players indicating it has only happened to them after the NF release I doubt this is lag-related... One of the recent updates must have changed something.
Divinus Stella
Well its gotten a lot worse over xmas, lot more people playing. i dont really know much about the communication to the servers, but i get the feeling the character location isnt updated as often as usual, which causes small jumps all the time, where my character moves from its location on my screen to the location the server says its at. perhaps its something anet did to reduce server load at their end.
Shendaar
I have been experiencing this "rubber-banding" effect on numerous occasion too. I must also say that I don't ever recall having this problem before the Nightfall release.
I would like to get an official word on this, as this is really an annoying glitch.

Well, it's happened to me before NF, but it was a long time ago. Around June of 05, during the Great Northern Wall mission, there was a period of about 10-15 minutes where I couldn't go anywhere. I'd move to a certain spot, only to be pulled back to my original spot. It had nothing to do with body blocking.
The same is here. I was doing a Do Not Touch run in the Forum Highlands. I killed the first group of Skree Harpies and kept going. After a few seconds, I get pulled back to the spot where I killed the harpies. THis happened 3 or 4 times. Maybe it could be because so many people are on for the event I don't know, but yeah it pretty much breaks the game for me.

If you have no skills requiring activation time, press c and see where the closest enemy is.
Also, using the mouse cuts down on rubberbanding 99% because it forces anets servers to give your character pathing, whereas using the WADS ignores pathing.

For those who say it's not lag related.. I just don't know, because I have only ever seen this type of thing happen in online games (several of them over the years. This used to happen ALL THE TIME in Ultima Online when it first came out, and it was definately related to connectivity in that game).
I've never seen this happen in any single player games. And it seems to me that this is a case of .. you are moving, and you briefly lose a few packets from the server. So the server is not getting info on your real position from the client for a bit.. So the server thinks you are sitting still in your last known position, until the client and server manage to resync.. At that point, I assume the server over-rides the client to move you back to your last known, server approved position... or something like that
