Member "Stig Figger" brought this up recently and I posted something about it before Factions was released, but still nothing has been done about it. Does ANET really monitor this forum?

Quote:
1. Improved 'ALT' selection of NPCs in outpost. When you hold down 'ALT' and pan around town, you see only the NPC names on your screen, but when you try to click on one (like Merchant), then all the nearby player names pop up and bump the NPC name away making it very hard to click on him. This may even be a bug as the 'CTRL' button already has the function of making only player names appear; so why would they appear at all when 'ALT' is pressed?
When entering an outpost, one of the 1st things players do is try to locate an NPC (usually merchant or storage). So this problem is effecting players a large percentage of the time while they are in an outpost. Doesn't this problem deserve some attention?

Now for the solution. Since most NPCs can't move, keep them at the bottom of the list! Because 99% of the time, I am trying to select the NPC, not some other player in the list. Right? I can only guess that when the developers tested the game, there was no one else in the outpost and therefore this was not an issue.

If anyone thinks there should be a better explanation of the problem, feel free to comment. If you feel this is a problem you want fixed, say so. If you feel this is a problem you DON'T think matters, say so. This problem has been ignored for too long and I'm reminded of it every day I play.

Thanks for taking time away from gaming to read my post.

Not a problem, bug, whatever. They pop up because those are the people next to the npc, and you highlight thier names.

Ya, it happens because those people are near the NPC in question, and you are highlighting them with the mouse when trying to click on him.. Still, I feel your pain, I find this highly frustrating when it happens. It would be nice if there was a way to get around it.

I find the problem frustrating as well, but recently, I've been running up to the NPC and hitting 'V' (might be binded differently) to select nearest ally, except without henchmen or heroes in town, it selects the nearest NPC. Alternatively, I do a quick warp to the Guild Hall, mostly because I'm too lazy to find out where the Xunlai Agent and the Merchant are. =)

Thanks, Nice to know there are other people who see this as a problem. And thanks for the suggestion of "nearest NPC", SongofSerenity I will try that.
