Need Motivation
MasterThrawn
Yes I've seen these threads before, and thought what's the point, but I am finding a serious lack of motivation playing this game anymore. I have played since one year ago today, which is the longest I've played any game (which is saying something). I have all three chapters, six chars that have a good amount of hours invested in each, lots of items, etc..
I think the main thing that has turned me off this game is my old guild broke up, and a lot of my guildies left. I am in a new guild, but they aren't very active. Hardly any PuG groups forming anymore because of heroes. Plus there has not really been anything new introduced as far as items - I mean new skins, but they are all stuck with the same bonuses. I was really hoping something would be introduced that provided special bonuses for having a certain armor set or weapon set(ie. so much extra armor vs. fire, etc.) - something remotely like role playing I guess. Even Wintersday hasn't gotten me too excited(and that was going on when I first bought the game - thought it was so cool) although I will get my hats...
Guess I'm just wondering what I can do to bring new life to the game - I mainly PvE by the way. I know I'll get flamed for posting this - maybe I should just take a break....

I've gotten much more bored of Guild Wars since the Farming Nerf, but, I get bored of GW alot, so I come back the next day and I'm raring to go,
The motovation for me is just not playing for a while, I want to get back and play.
I would just say waita few days, then come back and see if your more... motovated.

there is nothing wrong with taking a break is there?
imo its normal you get bored of playing constantly... take a break and come back in a month or so, and you will have your motivation.

I'm in the exact same boat as the OP. I'm basically taking an extended break. If I find I want to come back then I will.
A clear sign that the game had gotten boring for me was when I couldn't bring myself to push my Necro through NF. My Necro was my favorite character, but somehow the NF content just bored the hell out of me when I went through it with my Rit. Repeating it with the Necro felt like a total chore and I was only just on the mainland.
At that point I knew it was time for a break.

I have been playing for about 14 months now and when I feel like this I just go and play other games for a while until the next expansion comes out. I'm not into PvP either.
Yanman.be
I got the same(although I PvP ), but I'm pretty happy I'm bored so it doesn't interphere with school/exams too much.

If you want to stick at PvE, are there any high level area's you havent completed yet? Sorrows furnace quests, Titan quests (sources), FoW, UW, DoA, Urgoz's etc. You could also try forming a PvE guild, for high end PvE, to help set up groups to run these instances, or you could try setting high scores in challenge missions.
Apart from that, you could try your hand at PvP.

Like any MMORPG you will get bored eventually of doing the same thing over and over again, most of them you rarely see mutiple game updates/expansions so the content becomes drawn out. Basically like most people have already stated and you yourself have stated is step away from the game for abit come back in a month or two and see if your motivation for the game has come back, I have played this game since it was in beta and I took my long break after my original guild left then came back when factions came out then took another short break before nightfall was released to work up my motivation again.
I have done it before for others like WoW and everquest some I decided to give up all together when I never got the thrill back to play them, It is all up to you to make the decision and not someone else making it for you.

If you're bored of the game...then leave!
It's part of the philosophy of GW. Anet wanted to give player choice. If you choose to leave, then do so. Your account will always be there, and whenever a new chapter comes out, you are always welcomed to come back at anytime.
I am so sick of people posting this kind of things in here. If you don't want to play anymore, just leave! You don't have to post it on here to let everyone know about it. Posting it just make it sounds like you're trying to make others quit too.

yeah take a break.. i took like a month or two off from guildwars and then came back and was energized again.

take a break. my friend's got me into WoW when I was very bored with this game. Played that for 2 weeks, got to lvl 21. Got bored as hell, all quests are like :kill 20 xx, find 10 xx. People say factions' quests are boring, but they're fun compared to WoW.
anyway, that game realised how much fun GW actually is, and now I'm back alive and kicking

The keys make me come back...
Nothing to do, grab a bunch of keys and go hunting. Also I love the fact getting wisdom and treasure hunting actaully means something.
Now when people I know want something salvaged they come to the master. And it never gets old getting gems out of jeweled daggers.
But I raise money only to go treasure hunting nowadays. And if I ever make a mesmer I got some sweet staffs waiting to be used.

Ya try switching to a active guild makes the game more enjoyable, or try your hand at getting elites, or mabey the new elite missions and also abing I love it! Yes it is pvp but its easy and quick and you can get faction points just for being on the losing side, so its all good.

The beauty of the forums is that it's a place for civil discussion about issues that affect the GW at large. The game is getting on in age and some players are grappling with staying motivated. It's reasonable to expect that some people will want to talk about this.
If you don't like it... then don't read it. Better yet... don't even dignify it with a post/response.
Cheers!

Age
Go and get some good sleep and eat and excersie. You might feel better then I think it is the GW blues that have hit a lot of those that farmed and are just feeling down about like when the stock market crashed in 1929.Then came the depressing 30s.
nightwatchman
I'd suggest a quick break.
On a side note, since nightfall came out and heroes etc. arrived, I've found it really hard to get motivated enough to bring my other characters through the game.
I've got one main char, on which I collected titles, etc. but it all seems too much like hard work to go through on my other chars.
Has anyone else felt that they're playing less characters in nightfall than they did in prophecies/factions?

Yeah a quick break can do wonders! Or go to a starter town and help some new players with quests and missions.

I really enjoyed heading back to Tyria with a friend and surfing around from town to town to see what was going on. We went and ran the Desert for kicks and went to some of our favorite screen shot locations. In different outposts I just started giving away money to random people. Mostly we just chatted over TS and had a laugh while doing whatever. There is something about Tyria that always tugs at the heart whenever I go back there.
As for a break, its not biggie. Your account will still be here. There are lots of games I've drifted back and forth from over time. I might take some time off, but they always pull me back in the end.

Everybody now: Quick Break, Quick Break, Quick Break...

Nothing wrong with getting bored with games.I still buy games occasionally but less when I play GW.
You bored the game and quit playing >>> good ending.
The game got exploited and closed down >>> bad ending.
Before I play GW.I got into some other MMORPG .Usually a local one.And I can say the quality of both player and company arn't really good so all those game I played got a bad ending.
So far I thing GW doing pretty good and I hope you can comeback later for more.

yea im very bored of guild wars. once youve put a character or 2 through each campaign it gets boring fast. i have lost all motivation to play. i dont want to make new character. ill have to go through the same things over and over again. Anet needs to make some serious changes in the next campaign so it wont get so boring so fast!

@OP:
If you perceive that the breaking up of your old guild was genuinely the cause of your lack of motivation to continue with GW, I think you should really go and find another guild that you'll find fun in. That shouldn't be too hard.
GW is somewhat lacking in gameplay (elite areas may interest some but not others) and based on the length of your stay in the game (which is about double of mine), I'm guessing that taking a break and coming back to it may still not revitalize the game for you. I've taken breaks and got back into the game but I still find it difficult to continue with GW anymore; hence, I'm waiting for the next chapter and see how everything turns out. I definitely hope the next chapter is going to be released with additional fresh gameplay. Honestly speaking, I'm not very hopeful. :P

Find a good guild and start playing GvG, it will open your mind to a new game.
