You're at a huge disadvantage if you have only Nightfall. Most of the guides are intended for people with all 3 chapters fully unlocked, or close to it. Many of them have also played several (or all) classes. Also, many of the pages here are 'test' builds, and don't really work well.
To make your heroes pretty strong, you will need to spend a FORTUNE unlocking skills. So, start with the monks...?
Tahl - whatever 5 energy, spammable healing spells you can get, they're all pretty good. Remove hex or similar. Mend ailment, dismiss condition or similar. Heroes can't use maintained enchantments, so don't use any of those. You don't really need skills from your secondary class. It's usually a good idea not to use any, unless you have a specific goal in mind.
Drunky - Shield of Absorbsion is amazing, so there's something. Some other 5 energy spells like guardian and reversal of fortune. Tahl and Dunk are interchangeable, of course.
Melonni - She has all NF skills, so you're equal to everyone else there. Most people make Melonni D/W for Wild Blow, which does a bunch of damage with a scythe.
Sousuke - Most people (I think) use wards, with fireball/meteor/immolate until they get Searing Flames, then they just use that.
for Koss, 'Watch Yourself!', and some attack skills. I made him W/Mo for the res.
If you're a Dervish, you should focus on your own skills first, so you can stay alive to lead. Try to capture as many elite skills as you can find - those will help a lot.
The best way to learn is to play with other people, sample different classes, and try out skills as you unlock them. Have you unlocked a lot of skills? If so, I guess you could just use fixed builds, if you're frustrated. I guess what I'm saying is I need more information, and do you want people to just list good builds for you?

If you only have nightfall, you can still use Core skills, many core skills are really good like [skill]Word of Healing[/skill]. If you are going protect, a good skill to use is [skill]Zealous Benediction[/skill]. The only thing you are missing are the great non elite skills in factions and prophecies.

My general advice is to play with henchies mostly at this point. They are equipped OK and can get through the game. When you collect a quest reward make sure you swap your lowest leveled heroes in so they level up.
Next is to start a character of each class and go through Istan to the mainland. Have them keep their gold instead of pooling it at the Xunlai Agent and spend all their Hero skill points, skill points, and gold on *class specific* skills. If you do that then you will have more then enough to go from there for your heroes on one character. You can also use the Random Arena's and unlock skills with faction. Plus you will also be familiar enough with the classes to make sure your hero builds are decent and you will understand how to fit your character into a team.
Do not feel bad, I remember starting quite a while back when there was only one chapter (about 5-6 months into prophecies release). All the builds and advice was geared towards people who had completed the game. It's frustrating reading about "needing" some skill that is WAY outside of what you can get. It's a little steep on the learning curve, but then most online RPG's are. Good news is that it isn't too bad and you may find you prefer one of the "other" classes.

You can change your secondary profession in Command Post and capture elites of other professions. One good elite per profession will do wonders for your heroes.
Monk - Light of Deliverance, Healer's Boon or Glimmer of
Light are good Hero friendly elites found in Kourna or Vabbi
Elementalist - Searing Flames!!
Ranger - Barrage!! (on the mission to rescue Koss)
Mesmer - Crippling Anguish!!
Necromancer - A toughie as all the popular necro elites are in other chapters. Contagion is a good choice until you get Jagged Bones.
Paragon - Song of Restoration (get it right after you do the Party Co-op -- if you wait till you get a Paragon Hero it will be too late)
Warrior - Not sure, any Warrior experts know a good Nightfall elite available in Kourna or Vabbi that heroes can use?

Basically any hero you wish to play with, do them. My personal choice is an axe warrior (cyclone axe is really great in the beginning) and a protection monk. You get two monks so unlocks will work for both of them, you are a Dervish the Dervish hero is covered, and I do not know if you chose the ranger or elementalist (if ranger look for interrupts - the computer AI is outstanding in that role).
If you are not going to use a class, no need to bother with doing this until you are. For instance, it is a long time before you get a mesmer hero so do not worry about that class.
Quote: can u list them wit secondary professions That's hard - it depends on what build you want to run. For PvE most of the classes are OK running "pure" - that is no secondary. They tend to be more effective with a well thought out one, but you can complete the game without doing so. Best thing is to go to http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Category:Tested_builds and pick one that you can get skills for and do it. If you find one you really fancy that needs a skill from another campaign ask in the PvE skills section about possible Nightfall only replacement.
