I have Power Drain in slot 1, but Talhkora never seems to use it.

Thoughts?

Also, what's a good all-purpose e-regen for Tahlkora?

Do you have her on attack, defend or flee? If she is on flee, she will not use it.

I set her to offense for a bit but she kept healing, despite a spell casting enemy being present, down to 0 energy. I'll switch her to guard and see what happens.

For me I put the 2 mesmer interrupts power drain and leech signet in slots 6 and 7 with res in spot 8. She always seems to use it if she doesn't need to do her healing.

Also, she is always set to guard.

Were you targeting, or even just attacking the enemy that was using the spell? From my own experience they will only use the interrupts on the enemy you are currently targeting. Your hero may have been kiting at the time, or KDed, maybe had a hex on it that it didn't want to cast through or was in mid-attack. Basically there could be a number of contributing factors to the AI of the monk.

As far as energy management is concerned, Power Drain is pretty much the best option that the heroes will use effectively (once you get it working on your hero that is ). I usually use two energy management skills on my monk heroes since they love to use Protective Spirit and Spirit Bond too often so that eats their energy away. Power Drain with Leech Signet or Channeling depending on the area has been working nicely for me.

I set her to guard and she started using Power Drain. Not sure why she wasn't earlier, when I set her to aggressive.

I would believe it was because she target the same monster you were targetting.

Hmm. Setting monks to guard can't hurt anything.

But what about my SF nuking heroes that have the two standard Inspiration interrupts. Attack or guard?

I don't know why you would set anything to guard in PvE. Guard is only for Hero Battles. Otherwise, Attack is the best.

Definitely, putting the hero on guard is the answer to making them use power drain, leech signet, etc. However, if you're using a +5 energy axe/sword on your monk, you should switch this out for a wand or staff. On guard mode, they will close on a target and attempt to melee with that sword or axe.

When you set your heroes to attack you're giving them to the option to flee to search for fights often seeing them run off in the distance aggroing everything in sight. You set them to "guard" and they only attack when you attack otherwise they stand, "guard".

Also, she is always set to guard. I share this experience, dunk and talkhora hardly use it for E-management though, and throw in the spell/signet as soon as they see fit. If a battle last long it will give em some energy in the end, but at the start they actually "waste" the spell. Still I think it over positively, prevention is good enough for me.

I noticed the same problem with heroes not using p-drain or using it right at the start of a fight and effectively wasting it, so I switched to see how they would use Energy Drain and it was exactly the same. They would use it as soon as they came within range of a baddie or not use it at all depending on their aggressiveness.

I found the best ways to keep their energy high was to use channeling (they always seem to be near monsters so it works fine).

Also, I set up Melonni to use Mantra of Recall since she was always out of nrg (I don't have any Derv elites yet) and she uses it very well (also has good synergy with some of her skills and with mysticism). I wouldn't really recommend it for a monk, but I suppose it would work (although you'd be missing out on a monk elite).

I also use the later slots rather than the left hand side of the skill bar. She uses them fine. You have to have her on Guard or attack though since flee she does nothing.

Equip Olias with Blood Is Power or Blood Ritual if you want energy management, he kicks arse at it

Eve the blood henchie also uses it if you want to save your hero slot for another proffession.

The last time i had the spell on talkora she used it pretty well... on GUARD mode. At the Garden in vabbi where there were alot of ele dijnn around she used it almost everytime it recharges. It interupts them alot.

After i went to Domain of Secrets for LB training. I set her to AVOID battle mode. She NEVER uses them anymore. I watched her for 3 rounds of LB farming and nothing. Olias had Leech SIgnet on him and he used it 3-5 times each round cos he never runs that low in energy.

So i'm guessing it is the AVOID mode that prevents her from doing it or might just be the type of mobs she's up against. I'm going back to try putting her to guard. To see if she uses them.

Will update
