Hello,i was reading the GuildWars Rules Of Conduct and i noticed a sentence....

"When communicating in Guild Wars using Global Chat (including, without limitation, server wide chat and use of the whisper command), you may not spam, flood, or make duplicate posts. For more information, please see the User Agreement section 4 (j)."

Why,all those people spamming in Cities selling their stuff is breaking the Rules Of Conduct so why arent they getting banned or must someone report?

Because people abused and spammed the /bug function.

Well.... It's because people have an Option on whether to view the spam or not. I've done a recent report on 2-3 people spamming together the same message and nothing happen to them. Here's what they told me...

Hello,

Thanks for contacting the PlayNC Support Team regarding a potential rules violation.

Guild Wars has two features that players can use to shield themselves from this type of misbehavior.

The first is our chat filter system. You can adjust this filter by opening your Options menu ("F11" on your keyboard when logged into the game) and adjusting the setting to either "None," "Normal," or "Maximum."

The second is our Ignore feature, which can be accessed through the Friends list ("N" on your keyboard when logged into the game). You can add a player to the Ignore list by typing their name into the "Ignored" box and pressing Enter. You will ignore all the characters on that character's account. Please note that there is a limited number of names that can be added to your Ignore list.

We have reviewed the game logs of this incident and taken the appropriate action based on the information from the logs. Due to privacy concerns, we will not be able to provide any additional information regarding this report. That is to say, we cannot reveal what action, if any, was taken, nor if the actual violation was confirmed. Also, we are unable to reimburse you for any items or gold that may have been lost as the result of a transaction with another player. However, please be assured that the Guild Wars team takes User Agreement and Rules of Conduct violations very seriously. We are dedicated to maintaining an enjoyable playing environment. Because the incident that you report has been handled by the Guild Wars team, we are now setting this incident to a "Closed" status.

We appreciate your support of Guild Wars and your interest in keeping the game world pleasant for all players.

Regards,

The PlayNC Support Team
Think about it... would you report yourself if you spam yourself via Private Message? Now apply that to other channels. Its like spamming yourself.... Kinda confusing isn't it =/ Simply put. You have the choice XD

You can't say that you haven't spammed once yourself. That would be a big fat lie.

When I needed something, I have spammed.

When I don't want to hear the spam, I turn the channels off.

I really don't get why people spam their w t s message evey few seconds. It might be the thing to do in LA district1 or other "trade" towns, but these idiots go to some out-of-the-way backwater outpost with only a few players in it and spam the same ****ing message nonstop. Welcome to my ignore list, ya jerk.

What I DO find somewhat amusing are the guild recruiters doing the same thing. Lets see...you annoy me with your machine-gun messages and actually expect I want to be associated with you? HA!
Sometimes when I'm bored I pm the spam-recruiters and either ask them a million questions about their guild or join and leave right away, usually leaving with an unkind message about spamming in guild chat.

What's wrong with this picture?

The OP complains of spam, and comes dangerously close to spamming his own thread. (1/3 of the posts)

Except that he is just asking random questions that slightly pertain to the topic, which has nothing to do with anything said in the topic.

If you want to avoid the majority of the trade spam, stay out of the first districts of Lion's Arch, Ascalon City, Droknar's Forge, Kaineng Center, and Kamadan.

D1 (both your server, American, European, etc. and International) are historically where people go to trade in game. (Remember, the game doesn't have an auction house system, and ANet has no plans to add one any time soon despite many, repeated requests.) It may be against the EULA, but really, it's unavoidable. The polite thing to do when in one of those or any other towns and looking to sell or buy something is not repeat your message until the last one has scrolled off the screen. It's also polite to keep trading messages on the trading tab. Alas, many people are not polite.

When D1 is full, you might want to avoid D2 and D3, too.

The new party search window is great and will hopefully cut down on a lot of this. It's new though, and people are set in their ways for a while. I doubt it will ever get rid of all the spammers, but I think it'll cut down on the number of them.

I have played other rpg's *shh* none as good as Guild Wars of course!

They have a feature which blocks you from using your chat for several minutes if you spam 2-3 times.

A nice feature IMHO.

Ignoring is long winded for many people spam and i'd spend an hour just to get some peace on the channel ><

It's unfair to block off a channel i would like to use, because someone else is being annoying!
