Salvaging Runes

I'm somewhat new to Guild Wars, I've had Prophesies for a while but it has taken me a long time to get into it, as I tend to spend all my time playing Final Fantasy XI.

I've just recently jumped back into Guild Wars though and feel like I'm starting to get the hang of it. Currently have 11 Wa/Ra, 10 Ne/Me and 9 El/Mo.

So much for introductions..... How do you salvage runes from items dropped in the field. I've read on the forums that if you use an expert salvage kit on a blue, purple or gold item you will always get a rune. Well, I'm not getting them. The items are identified prior to salvage too. Any idea's what I may be doing wrong?

you need to use an expert salvage to get the runes off the armor drops....regualar salvage only results in materials.

Yes, I am using an expert salvage kit. Still not seeing a rune.

Use an ID kit first, to find out if there is a rune on it. Also, runes do not necessarily appear on all drops, and only on armor drops.

yeah it sounds like you're expecting a rune out of any item. blue, purple, and gold weapons and offhands have inscriptions or weapon upgrades you can salvage. Blue, purple, or gold armors will have armor insignias or runes that you can upgrade.

Not 100% accurate, you'll only get inscriptions off of weapons if the weapons dropped in Elona (nightfall) weapon drops in Cantha (factions) or Tyria (prophecies) do not contain inscriptions. To get a rune, the item you are salvaging MUST be a piece of armor, for example Axe Fiend Armor, and it must not be white. Blue armors will contain a minor rune, purples a major, and gold/yellow a superior, but only if the item in question is a piece of armor.
