I did not see any similar post so heres mine. Has people realized rubies and saphires can drop ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE and that there is no real place to farm for them cause the drop rate is the same? Why then are they worth less than ecto? Perhaps cause that can be aquired with trade contracts but i ask again the drop rate so low the only people that can afford the vaabian armor are those that farm and sell things at riddiculously high prices.

To get those armor some people have to go broke many times over, not to mention FoW armor being so expensive i hold out no hope that i could ever afford that.

Drop rate of rubies, saphires, and diamonds needs to increase in my opinion and so to ecto because nowadays i go to the underworld the drops i get are crap 0-1 a run which is just ... sucks should be worth more than 9k if i can get only that many drops a run. ANyways im done ranting.. Ohh and so no one willl complain of paragraphs i'll seperate this mess.

Well, Trade Contacts, considering if you do all the quests gets you like 23-25 contacts. That's 3 Rubies/Sapphires whatever you choose. The more characters you have, the more you get. Same thing with the Treasure Chests Anet introduced. The drop rate in the Vabbi area seems to be fairly high for them to plop out. They can also be salvaged from Jeweled and Ruby daggers and Ruby Mauls. So no I don't really think the drop rate needs to be increased, we do need some ways to make money.

If you don't have time to make a character or to get one through, it'll just take you longer then. That's just the way the ball rolls. I don't have a lot of them and I rarely get them from drops at all. But I'm content with it cause I have quite a few characters and well I'm patient enough to wait till I finish what I need to so I don't have to spend a large amount of money on Vabbi armor.

At the same time, I might change my mind and want to sell them instead, and I much rather sell them for the price they are at now.

In my 16 odd months playing I had a grand total of 2 gem drops 1 was a Sapphire dropped by a shadow warrior in FoW and the other was a Ruby dropped from a Stone Elemental not far from the gates of Ascalon.

if you beat nightfall 10+ times and did all quests, id'd all items before selling, sold the hot mods, sold the endgame stuff (like book of secrets), got all treasures, got masters on all missions on each run or so, you would no doubt make 1 million gold for sure, thats not including side projects, playing the market(buying hot stuff low, and selling higher if your bored)

keep that up and u can have anything you want...... dont complain, i intend to do all this myself this coming year.

luck....yeah, let's not deal with luck.

i've never had a gem drop for me, ever. i've bought and used contracts for all 6 rubies and sapphires required for my mesmer's vabbian robes. and now i'm flat broke!

it would be nice if they dropped more often, but i don't really know much about the drop rates since i stick to heroes and henchmen when i play.

to the OP: gems aren't worth as much as ecto because they're not in as high demand.

In my 20 months accumulated on my account, I have only had 1 gem drop. I got a Ruby from a Mantid on the quest that takes you to Seitung Harbor from Shing Jea Monastery.

Over a year & all three chapters = 2 gem drops, both diamonds, last week with the new treasure chests.

I recently expert salvaged a Ruby from something called a Geode. I was stoked.

I seem to get more black and white dye drops than rubies, diamonds, or saphires.

Rubies, saphires and diamonds are so rare, in all the time I have been playing GW I have never got a single one and I have a lot of hours invested in this game.

about 1000 hours now and never had one drop - I do not PvP and rarely go AFK (and never for more than an hour).

I created a Dervish at release. All characters have to fund their own ascended armor. I have vabbian head, chest, arms, and feet (I prefer the primeval legs). Very little farming and no selling stuff to other players (I hate doing that - boring as crap). I pick up everything, ID everything (it increases the value of whites by quite a bit) and used what trade contracts I got. I have about 30k on my dervish right now too. I haven't been a spendthrift either - my heroes and two other characters with pieces of Nightfall 15k armor can attest to that.

Not anywhere close to FoW armor, but vabbian is quite within reach.

playing about 19 months now?
nothing to do really most of the time, so i used to pug monk for uw/fow a lot. have had maybe a total of 40 sapphire/rubies drop for me in that time. sapphires drop primarily in uw, rubies in fow in the old days.

also have had maybe 18 black dye drops.. just had my first white dye drop the other week. i don't farm.

so yeah, i think if you play exclusively high end areas you'd be likely to see more high end drops

Played 6 months
Dropped 6 gems, 3 of which are ruby, 3 sapphire. Also 1 diamond from treasure chest. Except the diamond, everything in factions (Kurzick).

Got roughly 600k in gold and about another 400k in rare greens on 5 characters.

All characters enjoy 15k armors, only one enjoys Vabbian armor (when sapphires and rubies were priced at 4k-4.6k each).

Never got a gem from expert salvage of jinn essenses, gem weapons or anything else.

Get white and black dyes quite frequently.

Played game for 1500 hrs.

I've only been playing since August, and have gotten 2 gems dropped. I had no idea they were worth so much. I sold them to a merchant because I thought at the time they were just vendor trash.
Silly me!

i'm either just lucky or the drop rate has already been increased, i got a sapphire from the second mob in FoW on my monk last night, and not long ago i got 3 rubies in another short FoW run and a guildie got 1-2.

i've been playing for about 19 months, and currently my gem count is around 5-6 rubies, 5-6 sapphires, 1 diamond (from a chest).

they were mainly found in FoW, though one sapphire i managed to salvage from some daggers.

This thread can be summarised as:

Dear ANet. Please make drops more frequent and loot more rewarding, so that farming is much easier and I can get a lot more money. Cheers.

I cant say I agree that drop rates need to increase.

Compare factions luxon or kuzack 15k armor to the 5k/10k armor in Nightfall.

They both require materials that have a rare drop rate. This means you ultimately have to purchase those materials from the rare materials trader.

5k and 10k is no different and if anything, it should technically be cheaper, because the armor doesnt cost 15k.

Neither armors are impossible, or hard to purcashe. Your only talking about needing around 15-20k more to purchase the rare materials.

But so what if buying armor bankrupts you because you have to purchase materials for it?

Armor is the primary/one of the primary purchases you make in the game. Its the thing your going to spend all your gold on.

Im not really seeing the issue since you can purcashe all materials you ever need from traders. And your complaining that saphires and rubbies arent as expensive as ecto?

Isnt that a good thing if you need them for armor?

As for FOW armor. It needs to be stupidly expensive, or everyone would have FOW sets. We need one set of armor which is stupidly hard to purchase and takes ages to save for.

Otherwise why have elite armor?

while playing through NF I found 2 rubies from drops, + there are several chests (buried treasures, etc) that have a good chance of dropping gems; include the trade contracts, and you'll realize that the gems aren't that hard to come by
