D/E

Hey people. I just got guild wars Nightfall yesterday and I'm a little overwhelmed with the depth of the game, it seems the WoW can't even compete when it comes to ingame customization. Anyway, I am currently level 5, i made a Dervish (I liked the look of the whole Sythe and cloak). I recently chose Elementist for my second profession.

Now, i'm stuck. I've looked over forums and everyone is talking about 'builds' and such, with abreiviated letters for spells and skills i think, it's all a bit confusing. But what i'm trying to say is, can you give me some advice with my D/E.

What Skills to i level up (e.g Sythe Mastery, Air Magic etc..)? What Armour should i wear? What attacks should i be using? What Skills should be set? I don't have a clue., Here is what i got so far:-

Dervish/Elementist

Air Magic: 1
Earth Magic: 1
Fire Magic: 1
Water Magic: 3
Sythe Mastery: 5
Wind Prayers: 1
Earth Paryers: 4
Mysticism: 2

______________

Skills set in slots (1 to 8 in order)

1) Eremite's Attack
2) Chilling Victory
3) Crippling Sweep
4) Ice Spear
5) Ice Spikes
6) Aura of Thorns
7) Vital Boom
8) Rez Sig.

I'm wearing the original clothes for dervish's and have a Suntouched Sythe as my weapon (have 3 staff's in inventory).

So, can someone give me some advice as to what to do with my character (A complete D/E build would be nice) or something along those lines, mainly what skills to set and what to level up as i go along would be the most help...

Thanks!

Attribute points for lines in which you have use no skills are wasted (the exception is lines such as scythe mastery, which has an innate effect, increasing the damage of auto-attacks). So drop the points in air magic, fire magic, earth magic, wind prayers. You can change the distribution of skill points whenever you are in an outpost (for example Kamadan).

Armour doesn't matter much until you get to consulate docks, where you can get the best armour (70 armour). The difference betwwen elonian, istani and sunspear armour is only how they look.

Put as many attribute points as you can into scythe mastery, since that's what makes you kill enemies fast. Always bring a resurrect, e. g. res sig.

So, Level up Sythe Mastery the most, got it. And Water Magic?

I take it the skills i have set are all ok right?

Thanks!

Play pure dervish until you hit 20, imo. It will make you a better player than trying to mix dead-end combos.

Just don't use ele skills and just allocate your points to dervish attributes.

Thanks! Ice spear is pretty weak compared to scythe damage. You already have cripple from crippling sweep, so I'd drop ice spikes too.
Ward against melee and ward against foes are the only elementailst spells I'd consider on a dervish, but it's probably best to do as Skuld says: stick to dervish skills while you level up, so you learn the profession.

also if you take a look at a priest of balthazar and see skills you want on your dervish. simply make a PvP character and try a few rounds in random arenas, PvP is some of te best training you can get. just dont mine the people who make fun of you for being new, everyone has to start out as a new player.

well if you are totally new to Dervish, here are some useful skills that might carry you through the early days of the game:
[skill]Mystic Regeneration[/skill]Mystic Regeneration: main thing that keeps you alive
[skill]Mystic Vigor[/skill]Mystic Vigor: bonus hp while hitting enemy
[skill]Vital Boon[/skill]Vital Boon: optional, extra enchantment and hp
[skill]Conviction[/skill]Conviction: optional, extra armor while you feel the enemies hitting you hurts alot

just keep the enchantments on, and you can play it ALMOST like a tank and just hitting some enemy. just bring along some damage making henchman (like Cynn?) and you can make through most of the quests

This is not a super 1337 build (not even complete) or anything, but it would allow you to play through most early part of the game so you can familiar with the Dervish skills by keeping you alive.

But eventually, you will come up with a better one that you'd like to play with

just another tip, Zaishen Challenge in the "PVP map" can let you earn up to 2000 Balthazar Factions a day so you can unlock some skills for you to buy in early PVE (you can buy any unlocked skills at any skill trainer at corresponding campaign). and the "Illusionary Weaponry Team" is a pretty easy AI team to challenge to earn this 2000 faction

I dunno... mixing Ice Mirror and a Water Armor spell (there's like 3, they all have their pros and cons) with high Mysticism can get kinda out of hand. Ice Mirror becomes essentially free w/ high Mysticism and you're immune to a damaging spell once out of every 10 seconds. Only downside is that it's an Elite Skill (you only have one Elite Slot). Other downside for you is that Ice Mirror is found in Factions. Plus side is, you're not going to be hurting without it, Nightfall has some crazy elites, for Dervishes and Elementalists.

A D/E makes a great tanking Dervish...which is what I did with my Dervish. But this early in the game just work on your Dervish skills and leave the others out for now. When you do get up to lvl 20 I recommend staying D/E for survivability. Stone Skin Aura + Conviction + Mystic Regen + Vital Boon makes for one heck of a tank...that is until you get stripped =). I beat the game on my derv with just heros and henchies using this setup.
