Petition: Anet plz make festival hats useful
Hell Marauder
My idea is simple; just make a npc crafter in Droknor/Consulate Dock/ Kaeneng (wherever they sell max armors) so he can charge 2k to convert your zero AL festival hat into a usable max AL headgear for your respective class.
This has several advantages: 1) graphic designs went into making these hats aren't wasted, and 2) given that GW has no other race except humans, playing with dragon mask/snowman mask does add more different looks, and 3) it gives us a pretty good reason to collect and keep these hats. Disadvantage? I really can't think of any other than giving Anet's staff a little more work.
Of course this isn't a high-priority request, but I hope Anet can consider to have this feature added.

As long as the hats offer no bonus over those unable to get them, I don't see why they shouldn't be max armour. I love my Dragon Hat, but enver wear it, becasue of the 0 AL.
My Necro, for a while, used festival stuff whilst 55ing, but I don't do that much any more.
Perhaps [Festival Upgrader] as you suggest would be useful, and in areas where they make high armour means that your low level will only have a high armour helm, if it's got an opportunity to have a high armour everything else. Plus that and since you wont have the inherant +1 attr attachement, they will never fully replace normal headgear.

There are many times when I want to use my festival hats when fighting enemies, but because they don't have armor, I can't. This would change that though! Of course, I'll still like the hats, even if they never get any armor.

It probably won't hurt game much to have +1 attr to make hats same as normal headgears. But like you said, that would be somewhat unfair to ppl who can't get them. I was just thinking how much fun it would be if entire team was wearing same masks/hats playing.
Kai Nui
Sure, why not. I think a pair of antlers on my skull is a good helmet anyway. And the dragon mask is better than some of these mesmer masks I have.
KamikazeChicken
It would be easy enough to throw on +1 based on rune, AL based on level, and the ability to add insignias.

I still want to be part of the first group to win HoH wearing nothing but holiday headgear...
DarkRaptorX
I wear my holiday masks in PvE anyway. Who cares if you get killed more if you look cool doing it?

Would be awesome to have a sin in ascalon arena with antlers...

Seems pointless to me you got them for the most part for free you need to pay for armor

and it really isn't free, some of us actually sat there to get them.

It'd suffice, in my opinion, if you could "stack" them on a pre-existing piece of armor, thus replacing the look of that armor with the look of the holiday headgear.

What's the point. They're like Phats, worthless, but a badge of honor.
I've done Sorrow's Furnace questless in a pumpkin head, zero armor. The entire team did it that way last year right after the halloween event, just for kicks. Other than a few interesting damage spikes against our team, we did fine. So not only is it not in the spirit of the festival, it's not even needed.

It's very very simple too. you simply have it work like heroes. +1 to attribute of the rune placed on them and have it class/level effected. Its SO easy, they have to do it

People ask for this everytime new hats come out and it never happens.

The last thing I want to see is the tank in my group running around with his festival hat on. And for all I know he hasn't bothered to upgrade it to max AL.

My idea is simpler, just make hats equipable on TOP of the real helmet; Don't actually remove the real helmet, just hide it (you normally can do that) and show the hat only (instead of your empty head)
This way they could add hundreds of new hats, even wigs, specially with that new hats NPC.

I propose a different idea. Make festival hats a special item that you can wear WITH your current headgear. You know...the way Maplestory implemented it.

Festival hats are fun items, and that's what they have to stay in my opinion.

How would a decorative hat realistically provide armor to your character. The key word is decorative. They are for decoration, just like the pumpkin helmets. If a pumpkin gave you additional armor then before going to war soldiers would put on pumpkin helmets for protection rather than a steal mask. The same thing goes for holiday decorative hats. Anyways your just supposed to wear them in town and use your W/Mo knight's helmet when you go out to chest run ROFL.

I kind of disagree with this. Hats are simply decorations and prizes to show that you attended an event. They're not meant to be anything more or anything less and I don't think they should be.
Still, it might be interesting if you could at least attach runes and insignias on them... that way they wouldn't get any more bonuses than what you are willing to spend on them.

my dragon mask doesnt have armor but it does have a rune of vigor on it.
I think it should (if changed) cost more than 2k. Thats a hell of an armor upgrade 0-100. maybe 5k, then if you wanted the +1 to what ever attribute another 2k, then add the runes. thats a money sink.
Or just let it sit on top of other helms

Make them just like hero headgear, +1 to attribute same as attached rune, AL dependent on profession and level. An insignia slot as well.
Make them cost 2k from the hat guy. Normal max headgear is 1.5k + materials, so 2k seems like a reasonable price. Or even as high as 3k. Another gold sink ftw.

both ideas that are presented are good, the hat on top of helm idea apears to be easy to add in /signed

Variation on the idea: During a particular time of year, festival hats be armored.
i.e. During Wintersday, all Wintersday hats are max armor. They go back to zero after the festival.
This way, it'd add to the festive spirit during that time of year, reward veterans of past festivals, and not create a situation where people are wearing santa hats in PvP year-round.

the problem is that you would go into a mission, the whole atmosphere is there, and them some knight has a pumpkin head...

The helms are cool but if u keep the same item (more or less, since there only variations of the prev years ones) eventually people will get bored of them. Lol unless they make more transmog style tonics, so i can turn into a tengu or Dragonoid

they should do this with weapons too /signed
