Do you think this kind of guild would work?

Firstly, I don't mean to make this a guild recruiting post at all! I just want opinions if you think this kind of guild would work and if you would join it if you needed a guild...not to recruit you, but in a hypothetical situation. I suppose I want to know if this is a viable idea and that I'm not trying to do too much or that there are too many other guilds like this idea.
Basically I want to start a casual players (no "have to play every day" thing...all good if you run off for a few days, after all life comes first) guild more oriented towards high level pve content and some AB in the mix. I'm thinking that a group of people playing tombs, sorrows furnace, fow, uw, rotscale, and other such farming/higher level pve content areas would be fun to make a guild out of. In addition, I figure we'd also be able to help out each other play through the game, maybe help out some random new players, and maybe also play some AB if people are so inclined.
Does this sound like other guilds that are around, or that I'm trying to spread too thin, or something else? I just wanted some feedback before I go try and do this and only end up with myself in the guild.

That sounds like a normal PvE-focused guild to me, people doing a variety of activities available for PvE.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Cam_Payton on the issue of balancing. The guild I'm in right now is supposed to be both PvE and PvP, but the majority of guild chat is "Wanna do GvG when we get enough people?" and most PvE chat gets ignored. Also, there should be some guide lines for how often a person must play. My guild has none and because of that I am 1 of maybe about a dozen active people out of 40 or 50.
But anyway, that kind of guild would work, just not usually exactly how you expected it to.

PvE = easy dude.

Yeah, I kinda figured it would either be like every other one out there or just be rather odd to pull off. Eh, I'll just try and find a guild I like and join then. Thanks for the info!

If you're looking for an existing one, visiting forums can be helpful, to see whether the potential guild has characteristics of the guild YOU envisioned to make.
For example,
Is it a diverse age/cultural group? Or do you want everyone on the same time zone and maturity level?
Do they have a code of conduct? Is it fair, too strict, too lenient?
Do they encourage each other or compete?
Is there good-natured ribbing or do their jokes go too far?
Do they care about each other, or do you just want a place to escape, you don't want in on people's real lives?
Just things to think about.

We have a unique setup. We have members who are mostly interested in playing low end pve content mainly since they havent been on much since nf, and we have the people who have finished all the games and like high end pve. Then, our alliance is friendly and has enough people to throw a halls group together whenever we feel like it. Thats the best way to go, i think.
Just have enough people who share interests in different things that you can do whatever you want.

that is the beauty of alliances! My alliance [SYKO] has tons of guilds. [FAME] is your one-stop-shop for fame farming, [DoA] (the one i'm currently in) is the hardcore PvEers guild, filled with peeps who do all high level crap. [SEAR] is our Pre-Searing division. [TYRI] is for Prophecies, [CANT] is for Cantha (ironic name :P), and [ELON] is for elona based missions and stuff. We also have a bunch of random guilds that just like GvG.
I <3 my alliance.

There's definitely markets for that stuff, but I find that the people interested in those sorts of guilds already found one. Most of the new people who arrive in Guild Wars want PvP, and for every 100 of those, there's maybe 1 or 2 that are interested in a PvE guild.
I should know, just from my own experiences. My guild is still absolutely empty, and I've been struggling to get people in to get it started (normally I go to all districts in all major cities of all expansions to recruit, but I'm at the point of going to every obscure place, too), but when you say PvE-only, 99.9% of the Guild Wars community shuts their ears. It's definitely frustrating, and it's nowhere near as easy as starting a guild for PvP, you have but to send the message and you'll get tons of interest whispering you back.
Keep trying, but like myself, you may have to suck it up and face the fact that nobody is obviously interested in organized PvE anymore, as my list of successful recruits thus far (zero) seems to confirm. I want to play with people, but a lot of the people you get in random pickup groups are mentally unstable at best. I've got to stick with heroes for now, but I'm hopeful...

That sounds like a great philosophy for a PvE guild. They generally drift to high-level content, simply because the members help each other get their characters through the game, then move on to more challenging areas. That also lends itself to the laid-back attitude.
I'd recommend that you not actively recruit if you want to start your guild, or to try and quickly push into guilds if you decide to join instead. The best way to get that environment is to play with others for a while, decide you like the players and their play style, and then go for it.
