Here on guru there is a video of farming the ice imps in the ice caves in mineral springs by way of granit citadel/prophocis. He uses a w/me using "elemental resistance".
I tried this build but found it difficult. I didnt have any success doing it this way. Do watch the video of the w/me,it will give you an idea of what to do.

So i made my own r/mo build to solo the ice imps.
#1 Weapon, non max poisonous long bow with health mod, req 7 marksman, a req 8 should be fine.(the less i put into marksman, the more i can put into wilderness survival and expertise, and thus the more health i have)
#2 armor. what ever is fine. i got the vfur armor from droks with the +15 vc cold, but found it wasnt necessary. helps a little though but i like to have more energy.
#3 No major or sup rune except health.
#4 attributes.
8 healing for mending +3
9 expertise
14 wilderness survival. mask +minor rune.
8 marksmanship. i only need 7 but i had unspent points.
#5 Skills.
mending +3 (cast first)
Watchful spirit +2 (cast second)
trollungent +10
posionus arrow (E) 19 sec
kindle arrow 23 fire
storm chaser 19 sec +5 energy when hit with ele damage
zojun's haste or dodge 9 sec
lightning reflexes 9 (use against trolls or ice golem)
You have to have 2 running spells to get past the avicara bird guys. Cast mending first, then watchful spirit. One enchantment will get striped and mending is a higher heal, so you will want to maintain that longer. There are often two groups of avicara close together on bridges that you have to run through. Often running past one group in a compact are you can get down below 50% health. If you are stuck on a bridge and your enchantments are stripped with a form of cripple on you. Use lightning reflexes to avoid takeing damage until you can activate a running skill again.
I have read about peeps farming ice imps by droks using vigorous spirit and barrage. But 40% of the time they arnt grouped together, so barrage is usles $40% of the time ,thus you dont have enough healing.
Take out ice golems and trolls first (if there are any)
You need to try to stay on level ground with the ice imps to keep them out of your aggro circle, if you are higher than them, they have to get closer to hit you thus getting into your aggro buble. If they get into your aggro bubble, they will use malestorm which hits with 11-14 per second and interupts healing breese, thats why i dont use it.They use deep freeze, so you cant get away. Use this time to heal, wait for deep freeze to end and run back a little ways.
It takes about 20 sec per ice imp per kill. but if they are out of your aggro circle, they only hit with 2-4 and your mending and wachful spirit handle that with ease.Unless they enter into your aggro bubble.
Inside the cave is an ice drake ele boss, but he is guarded by shadows. there is also a temple where you can get a blessing of +3 health and 25% max when we have favor, but by the time you reach it, there are only a few imps left. I have only gotten 1 sword per drop, and often no swords, there are also fiery dragon swords dropped.
After watching the video, when you get to mineral springs, go left (west), then take your first right and go north. There are giants the way the video shows who constantly knock you down which is fine if your a warrior, but not if your a ranger.
Btw it took me 4 hours to learn the patterns set skills properly and get my first ids. So the 15-20k they sell for may not be worth it. but now if all goes well i can complete the journey in 30-45 min. So if you enjoy a challenge try this build out. Please let me know if you have any success with this build/farm.

Have you tried a R/Me build with Mantras instead? I remember it worked very well when I decided to solo Lornar's pass. The build was something like:
Dual Shot (or Forked Arrow - unavailable then)
Poison Arrow
Savage Shot
Kindle Arrows
Storm Chaser (or Natural Stride)
Troll Unguent
Mantra of Frost
Winter (useless for IDS farming - could be replaced by another attack or interrupt)
16 WS, 9 expertise, 8 or 9 marksmanship (to meet the req of your bow - most of the damage come from kindle + dual shot and poison anyway) and the rest in inspiration (8 I believe: +39AL for 62 secs).
I wonder which build would work better there - well I have to confess I'm not a big fan of maintaining several enchantements on a ranger
Anyway, good job.

Thanks for the ideas, i also have thought about a similar r/me build, but the problems i ran into is that it is such a long run to get there past various creatures. Sure many other builds would take the ice imps down faster, but how would you get there without all the extra healing/enchantments?
When you actualy get to the imps, you realy dont take much damage from the imps since you keep your distance and have good armor vs selemental damage., Its the one troll that is often there and the ice golem *who isnt that bad either).

would burning arrow not be more effective than poison arrow? (with a string that increases burning duration instead of poison duration ofc)
Wolydarg
Burning Arrow can't be spammed on an entire mob like poison arrow can.
I think all those enchants are overkill to make a run to the ice imps, granted I haven't tried a run after they changed enemy aggro, but I recall just having troll and 2 running stances got me up there rather consistently. The annoying parts were always hoping the avicara don't spawn at the mouth of the cave with the ice imps and that you don't eff up pulling and managing ice imp aggro.
