Wel we have all these more storage ideas.. and they're all denied because of space costing more upkeep for anet.

I'm not very good with coimputers, but if we simply increased stacking limits to like 9999 (infinite basically), would that solve the problem? Or does that simply add more space as well?

adds more space. you would still be using the same KB just in one place instead of 2-10.

We need the limit on materials for a very basic reason. The same reason we need the 100k cap.

You DONT want people being able to hord an infinite number of expensive rare materials such as ecto, shards, black dye... etc etc etc.

Basically anything which is used as material wealth and an alternative to gold.

We have a cap at 100k on gold to try and cap the limit on gold storage (despite it being exploitable). We need a cap on how many of each material we can store, otherwise we would have stupidly, rich players.

At the minute, its already exploitable by storing 100k in each character and storage, and storing 250 ecto in each character and storage. Thats alot of gold and material wealth.

Thats a stupid amount of gold and well beyond anything which any player would need, but they do.

Imagine if we removed the cap on materials and you could hold an infinite number of ectos? The merchants would sell out, along with every other rare and common material. People would no longer need to micro manage their material storage and just buy it all.

And the ones who would suffer are the poor who cant afford to hord materials.

Im such an optomist.

I would like to have some space for let's say 2000 iron, cloth, hides, etc, those material that are common, do not cost a lot of money and are actually required in large quantities (like 450 iron for armor).
Don't care about anything else

9999 is an odd number in machine code or hex. Assuming that Guild Wars uses a hex system for most of its values, 255 would be the maximum amount of items you could have in a stack right now. It would take up twice as much server space to increase the limit beyond that up to 511.

BTW if you wanted "infinite" storage space, you're looking for 65,535 slots. That's a lot.

Because of those reasons, the limit will probably stay at 250 for a very long time.
