Petition for GW Marriages
Nanood
YOu know it sounds like fun but since it has been said that an outfit for a character e.g a suit of armor takes 12 months from design to implementation, I cant see the developers giving over that much time to make wedding outfits at this point in the game let alone all the other things you mention.
Nice idea but way to complex.

I'm against it because it's (I'll say it again) creepy. I have nothing against nerdy, or silly or whatever but it's CREEPY and I say this from a mom's POV. With all the stalkers and weirdos on the internet, it's just a bad bad idea.

If Anet actually has so much time as to add something like this, they should focus their time/effort/budget on fixing all the shit that's wrong with the game instead. Seriously? An E-marriage? That's basically another way for little kids to stretch their e-peen; as if we don't have enough of that already. Sorry, but there are too many immature idiots running around compared to the amount of PRers who might actually take it more... moderately.

We all have a "friends" list in game, but would you really consider half those people your actual friends? I don't. Marriage would be just another label, only a more exclusive one. Honestly, it seems like it's simply the word that's getting people worked up, as if they think having an in game "spouse" would be treated any less casually than having in game "friends."

I RP all the time at the JQ (if you spend a lot of time there you may have met my dervish or my monk...
), and I say, if you want to get married in-game, just say you're married. RP it. Ta-da! Done! No need to waste the developers' time and effort when there are much bigger things to fix (SF, ER, dervishes sucking, etc).

Can understand why peeps might want this, I have performed a few "in-game" weddings on my monk in Fishermans before....
Pro's and Con's to this certainly - biggest problem for me would be thus:
"Will you Steve take Alice to be your lawfully wedded wife...etc etc"
Only to find out later that Alice's real life name is Bob, 42, Single from.... could be very eww!! (yes I know, bringing r/l into GW is not on but hell, there is a freak out element to this)
Therefore

Even if it weren't particularly useless/potentially creepy, there are a whole host of other things that it would be much better to implement :/

Although i do like the idear but there are enough ways to simulate a wedding if you realy want to get married ingame.
1. Im sure if you advertise your wedding to take place at a given time enough Roleplaying people will show up for the party !!
2. Find a monk player that would be willing to perform the ceremony
3. Make two chars with the same last name...
4. Get married in Ascalon (as this is the first place you get with a new char (atleast for prophecies)
5. Then go on honeymoon together by (role)playing through the game together as a couple..
6. (if need be divorce by deleting your mutually named characters...)
!! All you need is to find some-one to do all this with, which makes it even more like a real life event
, and not just doing a mission for the heck of getting married...

I'm not really sure which way to go on this. I can see how it could go badly and be abused/spammed/etc., but I'm not certain the idea itself is quite as bad as some make it out to be. It's all in the implementation, I think. Married couples could be given a minor buff, a persistent effect that is always active whenever they are in the same party and within earshot of each other. Nothing over the top, just something small but effective to give couples a little gameplay perk to make adventuring together a slightly different experience from doing so apart.
To avoid frequent and frivolous divorces (and to reward couples for sticking together), the aforementioned buff would become gradually stronger and more effective the longer the two characters remain a couple. This could be accomplished by having the game create a separate /age value (separate from their individual ages) for the couple starting from the wedding and tying it into the numbers in the buff. The higher the couple's /age value (which naturally increases with time), the more pronounced the effect of the buff becomes. The buff shouldn't ever be so effective that it would make staying single pointless, though. The numbers would have to be capped at some point to ensure that.
No changes to storage, since giving shared storage space would likely lead to squabbles over who owns what. Unless only customized items can be put in the shared storage, which should be only one pane at most. I can also see a few new consumables that could be made just for weddings.
Again, I'm not sure what to think overall about the whole thing, I just wanted to throw out a few ideas that might make it something other than a chat channel spamfest.
And for those worried about pedos and such, study after study after study has consistently shown that the threat of such individuals lurking online has been vastly overstated again and again and again, most often by the media and politicians in what amounts to little more than grandstanding. Not to say such people don't exist, because they do, but there are far fewer of them online than politicians and the mainstream press like to claim.

Eh, I don't really think Guild Wars is a "marriage" type game. Most other games don't do things account wide, as Guild Wars does. Would it be account wide, as your commitment to a guild is? Or would it be per character? It's a bit hazy and tricky to figure out how marriage would work.
This sounds a lot like Maplestory's marriage system to me. Questing and couples-only areas.
Marriage just doesn't "fit" Guild Wars, imho. It may fit a lot of other games, but so do auction houses. And we don't have one of those. :P (For a good reason, probably.)
And the main point: I think marriage would start a lot of weird, annoying drama in the game.
(Oh yeah. If you *really* want to be married to someone, just make two characters with the same last name and use a consumable and call it a marriage buff. :P)

Leave marriage for real life please. Or games that it would actually make sense to get married. GWs would not make sense.

If there are marriages in this game... then I am opening a law firm in game for all the divorces that will come with it... 10% commission for handling the case to make sure that 50% of total gold in the storage is evenly divided... I can roll with that and probably get Obi armor in the first week! Gives a new meaning to gold diggers...

While it's an alright idea to waste time and as you said a money sink but,
A) Arenanet just aren't going to do it, what with them "apperently" working their asses off with Gw2.
B) Also then there is the whole religion thing can't just implement one religion's views and ideas of marriage.
So I guess I'll /sign even though I know it's not going to happen.

Besides, if you really want to simulate a GW marriage with someone, you can do it yourself. There's plenty of pretty armour that you can use to dye white/black if you want outfits and everything.
laksa and curry
Marriage marriage marriage, but how about the divorce...? If you inplement a marriage system, you have to implement a divorce system too.
I dont mind being the dedicated GW lawyer if you pay me a fee of 2k to legalize the marriage and 200k for a divorce.

Reason:
Your suggestion are for players who wants to get married, and ONLY those who wants to get married.
What about players who have no wish what-so-ever to get married in the game? They are "unable to participate" in those quests and getting those item you've suggested.
so for something that only benefit a tiny number of players, why bother?

But I disagree with the rest: People who have no wish to become Necromancers will be unable to participate as necromancers, people who have no wish to buy Nightfall will be unable to play Nightfall, people who have no wish to eat a drake kabob will be unable to obtain it's abilities. "put in unwilling person" will be unable to "put in what that person is unwilling to go through the hardship to obtain".
Fact is that some want to do this kind of thing and some do not want to. If people want those items yet don't want to get married they can buy them from others or take the sweet with the sour and get married anyways.
