I have wireless connection at speed of 600kb/s but everytime i connect to ArenaNet, its always at 3kb/s and someplaces such as loading Vizunah Square Mission, it goes to around 86% then stuck on 86% downloading at 2 kb/s and the size of the file keeps going up and the percentage is still at 86%. This really frustrates me since i would like to continue the story line. Thank you for reading

Well, you could try to do an -image run and see if that helps with the downloading.
However, I have no idea what's up with your speed so I'm not even gonna suggest anything on that part.

on your desktop (if you are running windows) right click on your shortcut to guildwars....click properties.... you should see something like c:\programfiles\blablabh\gw.exe

at the end put -image outside of the "" marks. then run the program and it will download all of the files that exist for GW this will probably take awhile so just let it run....when it is updated go back in and take the -image out...

what you do is create a copy of your Guildwars Icon ( the one you click on to launch Guildwars) onto your Desktop.
Right click the icon, click on Properties & add -image to the pathway.

Before = "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"

After = "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

This will force the client to download ALL available data to your hard drive.

Don't forget to remove the -image, or you won'r be able to launch the game.

Or do what I do & have 1 of each Icon. the 2nd one Labeled GW -Image.

Follow up question from a new player...

I'm on dial-up so the downloading of zones is killing me...took about 6 hours to download the main city zone. If I loaded this game onto a computer with broadband access could I copy the guildwars folder(s) to disc (dvd or multiples if needed) and move them back to my computer? I dread the idea of using that -image command at home.

Thanks!

You can copy the GW.dat file from one computer to another, although it is best if you use a blank dvd disc as it can get quite big. Mine is 5.92GB.

You have the bug which caused the gw.dat file to not efficiently reuse space. The file is actually around 3GB fully imaged.

3.7-3.8GB to be precise, I finished a full clean image today.

All you can do is redownload it... I did a full image a while back and it downloaded it at over 6GB...so working on another. As it takes me over a week on dial up. =\

Actually that figure isn't very precise. There's another thread somewhere about it and many people who have fully imaged said various numbers between 2.8GB and 3.5GB. That was only a few days ago. At that time I had said mine was 3.34GB but it has shrinked since then to 3.04GB. Both times it was fully imaged so it looks like I probably had the bug as Gaile said we'll notice it shrink over time. It is most likely somewhere around there but noone knows the precise amount.

I don't know. If you really care about that 3GB then try searching through Q&A for a thread about it. Or was it in Technician's Corner? I can't remember. One of the two. I know a few different solution were posted. The thread is quite a few months old.

When you do an image run it downloads and decompresses every game file. So, that's what it is.
Also the reason I do an image run before I go to bed and wake up in the middle of the night to shut the comp down. (That's to replace the entire .dat file otherwise it really takes me no time.)
