I've been using this famine farming build and tried to test farm Stsou Swiftscale (ranger boss) from a northern aggro. I've also tried other bosses and came up with the same result.......25 mins of wasted time not killing anything.

Heres the build i use:

Wilderness Survival 12 + 1 + 3
Inspiration 10
Domination 8

Famine
Mind Wrack
Spirit Shackles
Spirit of Failure
Empathy
Troll Unguent
Storm Chaser
Whirling Defense

Am i doing something wrong, or is this build just not that good?

I'm not sure what you are doing wrong. I ran a very similar build on my ranger at one time to farm Swiftscale and was able to kill him without problem. It's a lot faster and easier to use a SS necro with Spirit of Failure and Price of Failure, but a famine ranger should be able to do this just fine. The only thing I can think that you are doing wrong is not placing Famine close enough to the boss. I didn't see it specifically mentioned, but I assume you use this build by pulling Swiftscale and hiding behind a wall. When this is done, place Famine at your feet and it should be able to reach him just fine. If you still have problems, feel free to whisper me in game and I can try to help find out what is going wrong.

Might be a dumb question but: Are you...keeping Spirit Shackles on the boss...Its a requirement to kill him.

Its a common mistake.

Swiftscale has a very small energy pool for a boss (because he is ranger), so Spirit Shackles owns his energy very fast. He is one fo the best bosses to use this build on.

EDIT: Tested on Swiftscale again....Hmm...His energy regen has seemed to change. I was still able to get him, but it took longer. I'll keep testing to see if it is viable or if famine farming him was nerfed. I did my Stonereap+stoneweaver run just fine still though, so no change there.
