Hey all, I'm a returning player to this game and I'm wondering if I should make a Ranger Primary or Mesmer primary. I guess it all depends on the elite skills, but I don't really know them well. I plan to create a character that can take down casters easily and focuses on mana depletion. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

if your looking at interrupts then both are a good choice. But if you want to throw in the energy sapping, then mesmer is the way to go.

Go ranger so you're not sad when no one accepts you to your party.
Mana depletion doesn't work that well in pve though. It's better to just kill things.

hm... deliberating shot is a good energy sapp.
but mesmers are way better at this tbh

A ranger is generally a lot more PvE friendly and can play a decent shutdown role in some cases, but is generally reliant on interuption and conditions. Mesmers are generally a stronger class for shutdown and e-denial, but shutdown and e-denial is usually pointless in PvE type situations.

Most people won't accept mesmers into their groups. I believe its mainly because they don't see the direct effect your partaking in the battle. They don't see the energy lose, the hex that just screwed up the caster. Poor mesmers really are discriminated against, it really is a shame. Even tho I personally prefer playing ranger as my primary character. I still enjoy playing my mesmer just for the sheer joy of toying with some poor victim.

Mesmers aren't really a bad choice, but can be a bit of hit-or-miss in their efficiency in PvE missions. In the right area, they can make missions a breeze, but in others they can seem a bit lacking.

In most PvE scenarios, energy only matters to the players, as it seems that the AI has no energy problems...EVER!
They will play e denial against you rarely in PvE, but for the most part your mesmer will just not be as useful in every place and situation as a ranger would be.
