Possible to run to Moddok Crevice?

My necromancer is currently doing "And a hero shall lead them". But, I'm wondering if I can capture an elite skill ONLY found in Moddok Crevice, but by running there.

I'm thinking I just fight my way to Kodonnur, then zone out into Floodplain. The only way into Moddok Crevice is by going in that fortress.

My main concern is, if I'm not doing the Kodonnur Crossroads mission, will the gate open for me anyways?

Im almost 100% sure the gate to moddock will be closed.
