Hey,

I typically leave local chat off, but I had it on. Take a look at the screen shot, says it all.

We need a bigger ignore list as in at least 300+ people so I can leave local chat on. I want to block all the spammers and hatefull people. Sort the list from oldest blocked to newest.

Some people in game are unbelievable...I think it comes from the "Hidden behind a screen" safety mentality.

The worst for it are beggars, you tell them to go out kill a few whiptails or mantid drones to get cash and they hit you with a wall of bullshit.

Can be quite annoying.

While the response was in no way called for, you shouldn't go around expecting to be thanked for everything you do in the game. The way you 'explained' his lack of manners could have been delivered more tactfully.

But yes, a larger ignore list would be nice.

but that's just my two cents

So, the internet gives people the ability to say what they think without fear of being assaulted by some thug with an overinflated ego? And this is a bad thing? (I'm not meaning you personally btw)

Ya know, I hate imature and rude people as much as anyone, but come on OP, you basically insulted the guy for not thanking you. His response was uncalled for, totally.. but still, your own behavior was less than stellar. It's not your place to lecture him for not thanking you. You should help people because you want to, not because you expect recognition or thanks. If it had been me, I'd just move on and forget about it in 2 minutes. It's no wonder you want such a big ignore list if you are that uptight.

If that's how it is working out, than great. But more often than not, the person hiding behind the anononimity is someone who says crap that they would never, EVER say in a public group, at a lan party, or to someones face, because they know there would be reprocusions. It goes both ways you know.

Frankly, I didn't do it for the thanks, I did it because I wanted to. Then I realized that he never said thanks and being a parent, I've spent a lot of time telling my children to say, "Thanks". So, yes, it annoyed me a little bit and reminded me of how important I believe manners to be. Where would this world be without them?

So, I decided to nudge him/her a bit. As you can see, I keep my filter at max, but I can make out what he was saying, even if he can't spell off.

It wasn't until that point did I even consider him and then placed him on the ignore list.

After all, how hard is it to type <backspace> 'ty' <enter>?

I second Whiplashr's post 100%. I would quote it and "QFT", but it takes up too much room. So, yeah... there.

T.T

I dunno why, but that made me cry for some reason...

Maybe that's why no one answers me when I ask about something... Does that make me an "ass"? or a "lazy-shit"?

This is just a terrible way to look at it.

One time, this guy tried to help this old lady cross a busy intersection. The old lady turned out to be a psycho, and shot him with a handgun. Moral of the story? Don't help old ladies cross busy intersections, ever.

Please, homo sapiens are a bitter, bitter species, but we can at least try to overcome it with at least a little effort and mild risk, right? To OP: You're saying you'd give up ever helping anyone again just because one person doesn't thank you?

No, not at all. But that guy is on my ignore list. I'll continue to help people, it's my nature. He's number 3 on my list after almost 2 years. The other guy conned me out of 50k and the other one was rude in public chat with hate comments about other races. I don't think I'm too uptight.

Been playing since the day before release of Prophocies. So, only 3 ignores since then and lots and lots of help. I remember when people were very very friendly back then.

My ignore list is empty. I have never seen a need for it, sure somebody is spamming stuff in local chat, but it normally gets swept away in about 0.5 of a second by other people selling stuff, theres no point for me to ignore them, im never going to see them again.....

I was brought up to use manners (I actually thanked a trooper as he handed me a ticket once). But you can't control other people. When I help someone and no thanks is forthcoming, I usually just PM you're welcome and move on.

Well my ignore list gets full every 2 weeks or so, because of RA, but yeah I've never had a problem with people back when Prophecies was released.

If you expect to have your good deeds acknowledged then it defeats the purpose of the act.

I agreee with the OP, I hate rude dinks. But after reading the above bit, I gotta say it, you should let it go man, the guy probably quit, or maybe he didnt but Im pretty sure he doesnt try to message you with hateful thoughts everyday. With only 10 spots on the ignore list, and youve had one on for two years, how do you filter out district spam ?
People like that are like that too everybody, I think it is a rule or somehting, so too bad for him, let the assholes be what they are good at, makes the world go around, and eventually they will get hit HARD with the ol karma bat, you just gotta believe.
As for helping people I do it all the time, answer peoples questions, helpon quests etc... And you know 90% of the time the people are actually thankful, the 10% who arent, see the above bit about the karma bat.

True, there are alot of bad/mean people in the game, and its quite annoying.

However, I have only a couple people on my ignore, people who constantly bugged me in the past for no reason....

I hate that odd feeling in your stomach, when you help someone or do something work thanking for, and they don't respond and act like a jack. Its happened to me numerous times, and it won't ever stop. It makes you want to roll your eyes and grab the person through the screen, and beat the crap out of them untill they be a little more thankful.

I know its really annoying, and I'm more of an aggressive person, I usually yell back, and sometimes I can get a bit out of control to be perfectly honest.

Now, heres where I go a bit into where I might start getting critcism from the starter of this thread.

You what to know whats equally annoying? Someone who ignores 500 people. Thats totally obserd, and I'm sure most of those people would never speak, or find you in the same place again.

For example, I was in Kamadan a week ago, and I'm chatting with the person to buy this item I really wanted. So, I say yes, go to their district, say "where are you". The person has blocked me. Why? I have no idea, I didn't say anything wrong, and was thankful and never insulted or did ANYTHING. This is how I believe some people are in the game. They believe that any little thing ( and I dont know what it was in the example) makes that person unworthy of their presense.

I felt horrible after the incident, not because I had done something wrong, but because some snob had blocked me for NO REASON. Not only that, I was going to give them 20K for their thing they were selling!

I believe, and in my opinion, that both sides are equally annoying. The bad person needs to be nicer, and the block crazy guy with obsidian armor that plays 40 hours a week needs to chill out.

Now, with the person who started this thread, your story was alot differen't, and you have more than enough reason to block this person, but I believe it could be abused.

And turning off local chat? Although people do it, this is an MMO. If you don't like to, go play any offline game. Even though the spam is bad, it doesn't mean EVERYWHERE you go its going to be bad. Your cutting yourself off from the rest of community.

I've played the game for over a year and a half now, all you have to be is proactive about things, you don't have to just block everyone you meet.

Personally the title of the thread disgusts me.

I like the OP keep local chat off about 80% of the time im actually playing because I dont want to be bothered with beggars and people just being plain d**ks. Also when I do turn on local chat to actually see what people are typing and what not it starts off as a nice conversation then some odd ball in the town just starts being a d**k and it gets turned right back off. I've had my ignore list full for some time now but slowly take people off it but just when you think time has passed and they probable forgot about me they PM asking for handouts and get put right back on it.

Most the people that make my ignore list are people I have helped in the past and they continue to PM looking for handouts like im a walking ingame charity.

You failed to realize why he turns local chat off and it isnt because of spam. Its the fact that when you do turn on local chat there seems to be a sour apple in the bunch cursing or saying something offensive in local chat and the quickest way to solve the problem is to turn off local chat.
How is cutting himself off from the rest the community when there is still Guild chat, Team chat, alliance chat and private messaging?

This is one of the best pointless threads this week!

I believe it is officially listed as bad manners to point out someone elses bad manners.
You told someone where something was in less than 5 words ... you actually spent more effort looking for a pat on the back (not to mention a post here) than the original reply. Not like you helped a new person with a mission or gave money for armor it was a 3 second text answer. Yes, I always say thank you but would not lose my mind if I didnt get a ty/yw in a response.

Well, firstly, I'd like to see what people who aren't spamming chat are saying. Having local turned on not only rapidly drowns out everything else, I'd like people who don't spam to actually be rewarded for it, and that means managing to read what they write.

Secondly, these people tend to keep spamming, so the chat turns into a fast scrolling mess as various different people try to out-spam each other.

On top of a bigger ignore list, I'd love to see the up arrow disabled. I'd settle for a 100wpm cap to any channel, or a maximum similarity between messages sent to the same channel...

Gotta agree with ya, leprekan. I've often helped people and got no response, and yet I still feel good afterward. Why? Because I know I did a good deed, I don't have to be told that, nor do I need a pat on the back.

Ungh this just reminds me of those threads where people were complaining about not being mentioned in the Scribe for good deeds. Who cares!? Seriously, just be helpful to better the community, not for rewards.

if spam is such a problem dont go into district 1 ive had many random conversations with people in other districts and yea its not the ideal solution but it works. 90% of spammers seem to prefer dist 1 because theres more people, forgetting most of those people are spammers, gl to them selling in the game is atrocious - too many so-so items or duplicates.

and i agree with myword, from my pov you were the rude one. mentioning someones mum is a big no no to me unless your trying to insult them and then you shouldnt be coming onto a forum to complain that he swore at you, as an adult you should be the bigger person and not have to get a reward for your actions. if i help someone i help them for the simple fact that I was new once and at the beginning you dont know about guru or wiki or its just not convenient at that time, besides its not like the thank you is gonna keep me warm at night
