Fix Lag
jesh
Here's my suggestion. How bout we fix the dam lag so that everyone can at least enjoy what there already is? Seriously, at this point the lag is way out of control. My record so far is a ping of 13187 from server address 206.127.146.121. How is that acceptable game play? I know that no one pays monthly for GW, but this is a bit ridiculous.
Note that this was just my worst ping today, I was lagging more than that yesterday. This is with absolutely no other applications that use my internet access.

i absolutely agree with u that something has to be done about lags, everyone has bad days while internet connection is working normally. but if u suggesting introduce monthly fees than /notsigned for one and only reason people play this online game cause it has no monthly fees.
KamikazeChicken
Not everyone is getting lag, so the problem is either the ISP or Anet. Send support tickets about the lag, or Anet won't be able to determine why it's happening.
HawkofStorms
I'm on 56k and although it lags a little, it isn't even close to that bad. Run some virus and spyware checks and figure out your connection before blaming "the evil a.net" for your lag.

No, I'm not suggesting fees, I'm just acknowledging that we can only expect so much if we aren't paying monthly fees. What I've been seeing recently definitely falls into the unacceptable area. After my first post, I got a ping time of 20078 from server 206.127.147.150.
Simply ridiculous. Everyone knows that even 1000 is unplayable. I gave up and went to go buy Devil May Cry 3 to keep me occupied, since GW is basically down for me.
P.S. I'm not stupid. I can tell where the fault lies, and it's not my ISP. Do you see ping times above 2000 on here, like I frequently see on GW? No, I don't think you do. I have friends across the US with much faster connections than I do that are experiencing lag just as badly as I am.

OMFG...
And then you're saying your ISP don't suck?
your first hops are over 120 ms and it only increases.
Not at home now but my first hops don't go over 15 ms

post a trace route to an anet server maybe is better
Dimitri_Stucoff
Lag is not an Anet issue? I do not know if I can agree with you there. For instance there is a PvP map that a certain location always causes me to lag for a good 2-5 seconds. When I asked other people in the group if they got lag there, they of course said yes. Another instance, my entire group got lag at the same time, when a quick query of our alliance-mates 7/10 of them also experianced lag. Something tells me this is not always on our end.
Gonzo
I have an avarage ping of 150 ms. Most of my guildmates have about the same.
Bankai
Yes, ANet, please buy some fix-o-lag, and just get rid of the lag for 5 bucks. It's so easy.
I don't understand why you just didn't code "No lag" to begin with. I mean, that's so easy.

i have to actually agree the lag is getting STUPIDLY bad recently. I hardly ever used to get any in the 16 months ive been playing, but recently I have been started to get major issues.
I was frozen for up to 15 minutes in a town last night. It effects quests and missions and forming PUGs.
I can accept some mina lag which maybe lasts a moment or two, but when you can be frozen for up to 30 minutes (im not joking), its getting stupid. The reconnect doesnt even kick in when its obvious you must have lost the connection with the server. I eventually just closed GW forcerbly, and reconnected in the town and luckily no one had left.
The weird thing is that this is happening in low level areas in Ascalon where hardly anyone plays compared to others. I doubt the server is full or being overwhelmed for that particular location.
I can only assume it has something to do with NF, but I didnt have this issue after factions was released.
The thing which annoys me, is why does Lag effect the interface? Surely the interface is seperate to the instance mechanics? When I lag, I try to select to log out and it does nothing until the lag ends. I have to either use the x or ctrl-alt-del to force the programme to shut down.
I doubt it has anything to do with my PC either as its a decent spec machine and gives me no issues ever.
Unfortunately I cant see what Anet can do. High numbers of players are going to effect the game and since we dont pay them a monthly fee, they dont have a bottomless pocket of cash to fix it with and buy more servers to handle increasing numbers.
I think its something we have to endure because of that.

first hops over 120ms and "My ISP isn't the problem" doesn't really fit well in the same sentence. My first hops are at 7ms.

Why did you not try tracert 206.127.146.121?
Shendaar
The guild wars servers appear to be un-pingable and it just times out at one of the hops. His ISP is shyt thats for sure.
Vinraith
When my friend and I, who live in radically different parts of the country on totally different service providers, are both getting simultaneous lag freezes, rubber bands, and disconnects the problem (some of it, at least) has clearly got to be on Anet's end.
ensoriki
My ping is always 5-7 -_-

I've never had lag issues with Guild Wars. And been with 3 different ISPs during my time.
Only time I see lag is during majors patches like when Nightfall was first released, and that is only minor rubberbanding.
Why is it when there is lag people are quickly to blame A.net?
Its not just your ISP, it also the route your data takes to get to A.net?
But most likely its your ISP, so consider changing.

you wont be able to get the ping anet server but you still can the ping to the last jump.
dont bother my latency my net is under heavy stress now.
check your ping to the last reachable address.
if im not wrong after that hop its anet network
so basicly if your ping is 100-200 to the last hop but your ingame ping is 1 second you know inside anet network you gain 800 millisecond latecy. if instead your ping to last hop is 900 then ...
btw i made that with ping plotter a freeware program.

150ish is perfectly normal, and definitely playable for me. I can't believe how many people fail to see that 150=\= 20,000.
I agree with you totally, freekedoutfish. Normally lag isn't there for me at all, and I've been surprised since I bought prophecies at how well ANet usually handles the game so well. It's just recently that I've been having problems. I've been playing since betas, like I'm sure a lot of other people here have.
Here's my tracert to the server's IP. I did that this morning, and it looks better, but you can clearly see how it jumps up once it gets out of my area.. I don't know where their servers are.
I also did a tracert below that, to the server that I'm currently connected to in game. At the moment my ping isn't too bad, most of the time around 125, sometimes going up to 300. I'm not in a populated area atm. It looks like possibly only some of their servers are misbehaving?
I am definitely not alone on this issue though, and it's foolish of a lot of the posters here to assume that it's my ISP. My ping times still aren't 20k, hello.
So far this morning my connection is OK, hopefully it doesn't get insanely terrible like the past couple days.
Shendaar
Well your ping could very well be spiking because of your ISP. Latency spikes are to be expected and can be caused by a lot of things, especially on dial-up. You could be dropping packets and bang, ping spikes to 20k. With such limited bandwidth they are so many ways that this could happen.
I am sorry to say, but the only thing that is foolish here is you thinking that you can get away with Dial-Up without lag. To be honest I don't think Anet(or anyone else given the same circumstances) is gonna care that someone somewhere is complaining about lag when he's on dial-up. I mean It's not like you have provided any info that could lead to believe to a malfunction on their part either.

Yesterday I was averaging about 2300ms. 20k was a spike, yes, but if your average is 2300, it doesn't matter too much. I'm not complaining about lag spikes, I know what those are.
I have played since betas, like I stated already, and never had lag this terrible. There's something wrong here, when 3 people on my friends list are experiencing the same thing in different parts of the country, and none of us have lagged till now. GW usually doesn't even use 12k for data transfer between my computer and their servers (in fact it's more like <3k). There is plenty of overhead with no other applications running.
What sort of information would I have to provide? I think the fact that there are a ton of other people experiencing the same crap is good enough.

I think the fact that there are plenty of other lag threads means that this one, unless it has some sort of specific fix or suggestion, is unnecessary. Closed.
