Gaile - Is the party system also the "trade improvement" update?
Blackest Rose
Dear Gaile/Anet,
With the Party system we got an unexpected bonus of being able to also use it to trade across districts in the same town.
Thanks!
But can I get clarification if this is the total of the trade improvements or is this a temporary update?
I say this as it's kinda a weird place to put trading (into the search for party window)
Should we expect it to stay as is, or it to be improved, or it to be replaced?
I'm not asking for dates, details or anything like that - just want to know if you're working on some more improvements regarding trade or whether you consider it done.
Appreciate whether you can "confirm or deny"...
BTW Wintersday is great, festival hats (and especially new "hat makers") are cool. Got all 4 for both accounts by 3am..... .... but then I was able to rest easy knowing I had them for all 18 of my toons!

I hope not. Party Search is very inefficient due to the fact it only works for the outposts you're in. And due to the fact the population is too stretched between all the continents, there is not really a major town in which everyone willing to buy and sell things will go to.
Darcy
I find it's great. Instead of hopping from district to district in LA, watching the chat and posting what I want to buy/sell, I can stay in one district and chat to people, while putting my info in the search and occasionally checking the search for the for other offers.
Much more enjoyable than feeling like I probably just missed a buyer/seller when I changed districts.

i think the new party system is the best thing ANET came up with after reconnects!
are you kidding me? i can just post what i am doing on the panel and dont need to spam. i can just open the panel and chose a party i need without looking through trade spam and fighting teens on local
ya of curse some outousts are ampty, but it would be that was even without the party su=ystem, and the across district search is a way better way to find partys without dragging everyone through 3 districts spamming
trade system? awesome thing! i can sell my things without spaming or waiting for days for a reply from guru auctions. i can buy things without reading all the spam in local, and again, the across districts thing is awesome!
thank you ANET, im very happy with the new system

Party Panel is horrible for trading really, I hope too it wasn't their promised improvement.
You can put your sell thing there, but the character number you can put into the message is low, your message is often overlooked, and most importantly....Barely anyone even uses the party panel seriously so you are in fact reaching a Smaller audience by putting it in the window over several districts than just spamming it in the biggest district.

I use it, and I have sold stuffs through it, its great

It has worked great for me as well, tho' I agree that there needs to be at least double the amount of characters allowed, puhleeeese Anet. I think it is at 30 now, and it kinda sucks cause you cannot get enough info in, aside from that it works allright.
You have to realise that some people will use and some wont. So it is your decision whether to use it or not.
Also note I have bought and sold using it, if I'm looking for something, I look there first, before I spam(never actually spamming but....)WTB.
While it does leave something to be desired it is a good start, lots better than the first day when there was no tabs, and just a big heap of wtb wts and lfg...lol. Surprised me how fast they had it fixed, didnt even seem like 24 hrs had went by, and they had the categorys added, tho I guess they could've been planning it all along, and we just got it in bits and pieces ??

I think thats the point, for the people who actually play the game that only really need to sell things once in a while its perfect. For those who want to be merchant's well, this is Anet's way of saying something along the lines of if that makes you happy go for it, meaning they aren't against you merchant princes, but supporting it's not really what they are into.
Blackest Rose
I'm going to bump this as I believe it's a legitimate and fairly easily answered question for those Anet Gods in the know.
Come on Anet - are trade improvements done? or more to come?
Any idea's you're kicking around and would like feedback on? (since you're asking for feedback on skill changes shortly)

Well I know Gaile in a previous thread said not to directly ask for their attention in your title...
As for the subject I'm very happy with it as I've sold several things through it. I'd still love to see an auction house but this is better than what it was previously. I can scroll through the "spam" at my own rate now.

Wait.... people use the Party Search to find parties?! All i use it for is adding heros/hench faster when i'm not looking for a team of guildies.
I really doubt its the improvement. Although something similar for trading purposes would be nice.

lol Evil... thats the point of this thread it CAN be used for trading... Thus the reason there is a TRADE area listed in it.

I believe it is permanent for trading although it may not be the greatest and reconnects are great it worked for me for the first time.

Personally, I hate spamming anything, and I've hated trading in GW since I started playing. Now, I still hate trading, but it's at least tolerable, and I'm actually selling stuff - finally.
I used to stand in one of the trading towns typing in chat "WTS Blah Sword of Blah - XXk", over and over, switching districts, lowering prices to way below GURU PC low price, for waaay too long, to no avail. Every single time I tried that, no one would even whisper "FU noob"... just nothing. I have no idea how the hell anyone could trade anything. I'd also try looking for WTB spams, but it's highly unlikely that anyone in that particular district is wanting to buy anything I've got at that time.
Now? I surf the Trade section in the Party Search and look for WTB and B>, and just go from there. I've actually sold quite a lot. No pressure from either side because they are actually wanting to buy, and I'm actually wanting to sell. Now if everyone would just realise how nice it is and use it, it would be just that much better.

The Party Search panel works wonderfully. It is only a matter of people ACTUALLY using it!
When people complain that using the "Party Search" for trading is weird or not useful... Umm are you BLIND?! It has a section to SPECIFY trades, and in the window listing you can sort info so that you ONLY see trades... How freakin awesome is that!! Again, all it comes down to people actually USING this system. If lots of people insist on spamming local chats for trade, then yes, that will remain popular trade method. Likewise if lots of people start to use the Party Search for its trade usage then it will become much more popular and efficient. Start using it yourself, convice a friend to use it, convice a guildy or your whole guild to use it, etc etc...pyramid tactics ftw!
Admittedly, it could still use improvements and bug fixes... (People still listed even after they log off, better focused trade section/window, easier way to organize shown data, etc etc...). Maybe the Trade Chat Channel should be removed all-together to help clue people in that they need to migrate to the Party Search/Trade feature. But all in all, its what we wanted, what we need and we need to thank anet for it! YAY!
Cheers!

if you are selling ectos, fine it works. But if you want to sell a certain green, say Eshwe's Wand, where people generally don't know what it's stats are, or you have a rare with interesting stats or a nice skin, you can't get that point across. This is a half-baked improvement that for me has added very little. It could be tweaked, so it shows across campaigns (instead of mere districts), with more text area, it would be perhaps useful. But when I can spread my word faster by hopping districts AND towns than this 'feature', it fails (and I still hate spamming as much as ever, and at this point it's really turning me off to the game where I spend as much time trying to sell as time playing).

I will post my suggestion, again:
Trade in a party search window? mmm? Party Search is for .... party search, not for trade.
For trade just add a NEW window for that, and improved.

So many of you people are like greedy little children at christmas. Anet gives something that the customers have been asking for in an attempt to please/appease, regardless of the fact that they don't have to give it and it's just not good enough, ever. No matter what. You want more, better, faster, NOW!
If this is temporary, great. I look forward to a more improved system of trade. If it's permanent, oh well, I'll deal with it. It's better than sitting in a town spamming WTS/WTB and I'll gladly take whatever I can get.

I rarely use the party search option to find groups of randoms to mission with. Instead I use this option a lot to trade. In my opinion this option is a big improvement! I can now make a 'topic' of what I want to sell and just sit back, read a book or do something for Uni while people who're interested in what I'm offering occasionally PM me.

This is a great feature but it's currently caught in a vicious circle of "no one uses it"

The Only way to compliment the system is having a central Market island and a PUG formation area..... then the system will be at its best

I like it, its helpful to find more rarer items. I once wanted to get 2 Victo's Mauls ASAP for my Bunny Thumper heroes. Saw the price was around 2-3k on Guru, checked the forums and auction pages for it but the sellers were offline and crap like that.
Zoned to LA, took one look at the party chat and saw "WTS VICTO'S MAUL 3k" along with another offer above.
How pleasant and convenient

I really wish we could just drag & drop what we want to sell into a mock trade window within this sytem, let the system display the 'title' of the item(s) (such as a Furious War Axe of Fortitude...or 5 Globs of Ectoplasm) and when someone hovers over it, it actually shows how it would as if it were in their own inventory (including the inventory icon so people can somewhat see it).
Then, all you do is enter a price for it.
Sorta like taking a snapshot of it and showing it to everyone. You wouldn't even have to type a description for it. To minimize the abusive spam and clutter here, make it so the item must be in inventory, only one advertisement per item, and the character must be in a town/outpost (no advertising with the trade feature while in a private instance).

Personally I haven't used the trading system a lot but I could see how useful it would be in high merchant places like droks/LA.
Must give it a go soon...
My intent for starting this thread was that Anet would tell us if this was the promised "improved trading system" or not?
It just seems like this is more of an add-on to the party search system rather than a fully functional trading system (like what you suggest in the quote from AnnaCloud9).
Are you done, are there improvements on the way to this system, or a completely new system???
Since Gaile has posted a thread on this forum regarding the senior gamer while this thread was close to the top - I take it she is ignoring this post (which has over 1,000 views).
Another civil, honest and straight forward question goes unanswered....

Ok, a solution:
A new window, labeled Trade Window. You can use the drag and drop method as stated above. Along with this, you can have tabs for buying and selling, and then sub-lists of wands, off-hands, greens etc. Also a mats tab. This would make everything alot easier and faster, and you would just go to the item you want, and bid. Also it could be continent wide, and maybe even world wide, or you can specify(sp). It would be used because it'd have a wider user bse than trade chat, and because you can leave your ad on it, and go and adventure or PvP.

The ability to use the Party Search panel for trade is, largely, a happy coincidence. Some players expressed their worry that the panel would be filled with trade instead of party search, some others followed that by pointing out how this could be a good thing ... and thus it happened. A very late addition, but it's there, it's an improvement and it appears to work.
That being said, the design team is always going to be receptive to well thought out and well presented suggestions for further improvements. There are several good thoughts in this thread, about categorisation, ease of communicating what you need to communicate and more.

that is my guild wars dream! I really don't sell much but have built up over 50k worth of upgrades since NF came out that i just can't sell! I refuse to spam in chat as i hate spammers and will not become one myself.... I also enjoy playing the game for too much to use the new trade feature (having to stay in an outpost all day long waiting for a buyer)
A NPC/trade window that would take the items off you, letting you name your price thats then available for other to look at is a perfect way to be able to sell things. They could hold the money till you come back later to collect it, hell i wouldn't even mind if they took a small piece of the pie

Thanks for the response Alex!
While it doesn't directly answer the question on whether this is "the" intended trade improvement update or something you were able to put into the party search system fairly easily - I appreciate the response regardless.
Hopefully the trading system will go from strength to strength especially with constructive ideas and suggestions from the community.
