If you've just started Factions, you haven't picked the easiest chapter to start with. But that isn't a bad thing - it's the best chapter for learning about PvP and offers a wider scope on the finer points of game mechanics, as well as offering the best adrenaline buzz (in my opinion).
Once you create a roleplaying character, you will have the option to go through a tutorial on the Monastery Overlook which will get you acquainted with all the basics, and when you enter the monastery you will be given some primary quests that will get you started with your primary profession. After that, there are a series of other primary quests which can give you an idea of what all the other professions are capable of. I would suggest checking out all of them before you decide on your character's secondary profession, as it'll help you level up a bit more and give you more gold and some monastery credits. Hold on to your monastery credits, as you can take them to the quartermasters (there are 2 in the monastery and 3 in one of the later outposts on the starting island) and trade them in for some really useful things (and save yourself a lot of money in the process).
Also, if you'd like some help, feel free to add me to your in-game friends list (hit N to bring it up and add my character name). I'd be happy to help you through basic training
