Problems with EDA

Ok - I'm sure you're all familiar with the good ole EDA

[skill]Ebon Dust Aura[/skill][skill]Staggering Force[/skill]

I'm currently using a build that includes EDA along with Staggering Force to change my damage to earth based - I am doing this because part of my energy management strategy includes using a Zealous Scythe. I remember reading in several places that this was a valid tactic - but it appears to have changed. I did some testing last night on a few mobs (Jade Brotherhood Knights just outside Waiijun Bazaar - as they have no removal skills and Wing, Three Blade with his support cleaved off - I could tank him indeffinitely with no help which made it a good test) and came to the conclusion that SF's earth damage was NOT causing EDA to blind the target.

Can anyone confirm this is either a bug or an intended change? Or am I the only one noticing this problem. I'm using Mhedi's Vow (http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Mhedi%27s_Vow) and can confirm I was not using any other skills that change damage type - nor were there any spirits (eg Spirit of Winter) in the area.

Many thanks in advance.

well, you need to be using a weapon with an Ebon upgrade, it says in the skill descprtion while are holding an earth weapon, things that change the type of damage have no effect, ( I realised this then I was in RA with a ranger using winter)

Actually, staggering force changes your damage to ebon, so it will work just fine. The OP's problem is that EDA only triggers on attack sills, such as crippling sweep. Your problem Shuuda is that winter changes all elemental damage to cold, so whether or not you had an ebon scythe, it would not have worked.

Well - I got hold of Buhbal's Scythe earlier before work - so when I get home I will test this. But I will say - I was using 3 Scythe attack skills with EDA and SF active and no blinding condition was applied, the mobs didn't miss once.

Will try again with Buhbal's when I get home tonight.

just tested it out in the isle of the nameless. eda works just fine with staggering force. im not sure what your problem was (condition removal, blind only be 90% miss rate, maybe you have bad luck). but its not staggering force.

I've done Staggering force and EDA for many many times now. It's in my build. Blinds the target all the time. It works and i've even let melonni try it.

Staggering force does make your dmg ebon type, which is req for EDA. Now what you need is a SKILL ATTACk.

Ok - first off thanks for the replies. Second I have absolutely no idea what was wrong yesterday - but I tried several times against the groups of three knights outside The Marketplace in Waijun Bazaar and this time they were blinded perfectly. Same skill setup, same non-ebon scythe with SF & EDA active. Glad it's working now - gonna play around with Buhbals for a bit see if I prefer a different skill or sticking to my Zealous Scythe.

Wonder if I'll ever find out why blind was not applying before? It can't have been luck because I went out and tried it several times... Oh well, guess it's best just chalked up as "one of those things *roll eyes*"

I am wondering, if I use the pre-order icy soulbreaker of enchanting scythe with the build, and use a skill that says it makes your damage into earth, will the blind effect still work and all damage changed to earth?
