I bought NF, friend bought Proph, can we play together somehow?

Ok i just purchased guildwars nightfalls because i thought that was the one my friend had but he actually purchased just plain guildwars or whatever the first one is. So am I guess there is no way we can be on the same server together right?

You could meet on the Battle Isles and play PvP together, but that's about it.
If you want to play PvE together, either you will have to get Prophecies or your friend will have to get Nightfall.

Thank you very much for the response. I have only played the game for about 3ominutes. So are you saying that if we both make character on the pvp server or the option it gives in the beginning for pvp then we would be able to group or pvp together? I guess everyone pvp's on the isle?

You can also be in a guild together. (But again, unfortunately, you can not do any PvE together unless you have a game in common.)

Really depends on what the two of you like to do? pve or pvp? If you two are only interested on pvp then you're fine for now. You can both create a pvp character and meet in Great Temple of Balthazar or bring your pve characters there. If you two like pve then you're going to have a problem. You can't get into prophecies and your buddy can't get into nightfall. Only place you'd be able to group with him is a pvp area or a guildhall. As stated before you two won't be able to do missions or quests together.

Yes, if you both want to PvP together you can. All you both need to do is create a PvP character - it doesn't matter what chapter you have, all PvP character's start in, and are limited to, the same "area" - this area includes challanges vs npc groups, Random Arena's, Team Arena's and Hero's Ascent.

Just remember - you can only group together in the fights vs npc group's, team arena's & hero's ascent. RA fights put you into random group's, so chances are you won't be able to group together in the random arena's.

As stated, if you want to play PvE (Player vs Environment) together than you or your friend will need to buy the chapter that the other person has - this is because each chapter only unlocks pve acc3ess to that chapter's content - thus Prophecies can access Tyria but not Cantha or Elona, while Nightfall character's can only access Elona but not Cantha or Tyria.

Basically, the answer is "no." Why not just get outside and shoot each other with paintball guns and enjoy life?

You can always buy Factions and meet on neutral ground. j/k
