WARNING--possible spoilers
what would guild wars be like if they made all campaigns directly connected to each other? in my opinion, this is what they should have done. if they did that, there would be so many possibilites of what to do with the game. now, its limited to each individual campaign. the way it is now also contributes to parts of campaigns being dead. think of it--prophecies could have lead into the factions campaign. the white mantle and stone summit could have had a place in there. also, the kurzicks and luxons could have fit into the nightfall campaign. that would also add new AB maps.
the story could have gone farther in depth and have a more interesting and long lasting story line.
whats your opinion? should they have individual campaigns or have them all connected?
what guild wars could have been

Well Nightfall is the only chapter which really links the other two into it.
I think its fine the way it is. If anything I wish the make more end of game quests like in chapter 1 to close up loose ends.

As a company, I think that Anet did the right thing: not too much by building one thing at a time, but not too few by just providing cosmetic changes every six months. I mean, for us it's a matter of fun, pleasure and gameplay. But this is their job (as well as their pleasure I suspect, see the Making Of NF DVD ) and they can't possibly go into the MMORPG world with big plans, with huge players like EQ and WoW.
I don't think "It could have been made better" threads would help any of us. It's much more interesting to discuss what will be .

Well the reason they all have theyr own story (somewhat linked to eachother)
Is because of the whole stand alone chapter thing. As it is now you can just grab nightfall and play and it would feel like a complete game.
If they were to make them "continue" in the next chapter, the chapters would feel unfinished, like you could play nightfall but some things just woudnt make sense cause the explanation lies in chapter 1.So that means people would HAVE to buy the other chapter in order to get the full story.

They are tied together, you just cant see it clearly until you've gone through all three chapters. I call that storytelling, and I like it that way. (And just happens to be good marketing also)

hmm crystal desert to desolation... you can even see the back of the 15pt Att Statue in the background in Crystal Overlook.
and... well.. Cantha is to the south, and you have to take a boat to get there...

All 3 Chapters told one story with 3 separate tales that had no connection with each other until the end.
And the story happens to suck big time.

Skyy High
If you think the story had no connection to each other, you haven't been reading the lore, the npc conversations, or looking too hard at your environments.
Which is fine, but the story doesn't suck. It just isn't handed to you completely, you have to search out the good details. Yes, you see the basic storyline just by playing the missions, but ANY story when stripped of its details is going to sound very bland and overdone.

Stories where the entire plot follows one person around are worn out. The current setup shows that the story is happening in multiple places, increasing the scale of it while still allowing players to go through all parts (not necessarily in sequence).

they did the right thing, otherwise they would force you to buy prophercies, then factions and then NF. The way they did it means you can choose.
And since all 3 have completely different playing styles, it works great.
Prophercies for long playing and good storyline.
Factions for fast and furious playing.
Nightfall for a happy medium.
