inscription/insignia updates
j_unit66
do you guys think that armor and weapons bought previous to nightfall (Factions and Prophecies) should be updated to be able to be inscribed?
myself am hoping beyond hope that they do, i bought obsidian gladiators armor right after factions came out, it took me about a year of casual farming to be able to make enough gold to get it, and now that i want to change it like the armors that are being bought now i cant. if we get enough people complaining hopefully guildwars will do something
to-leprekan: are you talking about weapons or armor? and if u are talking about armor, its at a set price it wouldn't tank the price of it because it cant fluctuate.
* did gaile actually say they wont change the old armors because they can't?, could they not just make the inscriptions over write the original mod on the armor?

Yes.
I want my 15k Gladiator Stonefist Arms.Instead of having to wear armor that completely clashes with it.

For proph en faction armor i'd have to say it would be VERY nice if it's insciptable (bonus in the headpiece hehehe)
but for weapons i'd say leave them as they are now, most people hunted for some perfect stats proph or cantha weaponru and such a update would make it all less worth it...

Inscriptions already destroyed the value of so many items. I don't think they need to tank the price of what is left.

Yes and no. On one hand, I'd say that they need to keep inscriptions specific to nightfall. This gives people motivation to buy Nightfall. Perhaps if they added an npc in Elona somewhere that would convert old armor to inscriptable armor. At the bare minimum, FoW armor should be made inscriptable since they didn't offer the option of inscriptable FoW armor until many had already bought their sets.

From a personal perspective, it would be great to revert the new inscription system back to all Factions and Prophecies armor and weapons. However, I can see some reasons why they wouldn't (or at least, why it wasn't immediate).
First, they'd have to go and change all the armorers, weaponsmiths and collectors to disconnect the inscription part into the mod. Then further update all items that people currently have. I don't see that happening without glitches, potentially fatal to some items. For example: my ritualist had used an Insightful Spiritbinder since he started, when Factions came out. I had put a staff wrapping of Mastery on it. I recently stopped using it, after the overhaul. I was able to strip the Mastery mod. I was then able to strip the Insightful mod. That shouldn't have happened, but was likely a loophole.
Next, it would lead to gaps and end-runs around one of the bigger gold-sinks: specialty armor. I'm guessing that the main reason there are no max armor collectors in Nightfall is because in Prophecies and Factions, the collector armor is base - if you want extra armor or energy, you have to fork out cash. Which means most do. However, if you go back and make collector armor inscribable, people can get armor and mods for it without shelling out cash (just farming some collector materials, many of which aren't hard to get between the two releases). Admittedly, they could get around this by making them non-modifiable.
I think the main bit is the first issue - they're probably concerned about introducing strange behavior in old items. But, if they're inclined, they may come up with a patch that works, and we'll see something. However, it may just fall into the well of 'We're not making changes to old releases'.

Armor yes, weapons no. I've never been a fan of inscriptions on weapons. I'm not a powerseller nor have I got any super uber weapons. I just like know that the few 15^50's I find that are uninscribable are worth a damn. The armor however is customized so there is no reason not to make it inscribable.
Ellington
Hopefully, Anet will make all armors inscribable when they come out with Chapter 4.
It's pretty annoying how whenever someone brings it up now Gaile says they can't do it, not for technical reasons, but because it'd be unbalancing if you added insignias on TOP of the mods that are already there. Classic Straw Man fallacy.

They should make the prophecies and factions armor inscribable, but then they should make them blank and have no mods inherently. As for weapons......NO
Mr_T_bot
No. The end.

At the point where I am now, it's not as big a deal as it used to be. I'm pretty much set in the next set of armor I'm going to purchase, and my daggers are all going to be 15^50 Butterfly Knives from collectors, so I don't really care one way or the other.
That said, I could see how someone who was just getting started and got a hot 15^50 drop would want to carry that with them to whatever new weapon they managed to pick up.
If I had to pick one, it would probably be insignia. It's a royal pain in the ass to have to carry around 5 or 6 different sets of armor (or so I've heard) depending on what situation you find yourself in. One set of armor, with a bunch of insignia that you could mix and match as necessary, would be awesome.

I don't think ANet should go back and update any old skins on weapons/items that have already dropped for people until now, as it would probably be way too much effort to correct millions of existing legacy items that exist. However, I still would like to see some sort of compromise on this issue. I would really like it if the older-chapter skins would start dropping from this point on with new mods/inscriptions compatibility. Let's face it here - only 1/3 of the game's skins right now are compatible with the new modding system implemented with NF. I like a lot of the older skins. Many other people do too. I would love to have a chance to get some of those older skins without needing to hit the gw 'drop lottery' to get the item with perfect stats. Right now I barely bother with older campaign skins because of how rare it is to get perfects. It has nothing to do with personal preference. I would LOVE the chance to get older skins and be able to throw inscriptions to upgrade the non-perfects.
I feel the same way for armors. I don't think existing legacy armor pieces (regardless of price) should be updated with the new NF mod system. I do think the existing legacy armor types that you can buy from the armor traders should be made compatible with the new NF insignias, etc. Case in point - I want the damn Tyrian Dragon Armor for my Warrior. I sure as hell don't want the stats that come with it though.
This game seems really disjointed with two different types of mod systems in place. ANet should really do something about that, and soon. IMO, it should've happened with Day 1 of Nightfall's release. To be honest, from a skin-variety standpoint alone, I don't know why there hasn't been more of an outcry from the GW fanbase about this. Stop settling for ANet's half-assed implementations of everything they do and start sticking up for this game's ultimate potential. Start bugging ANet about this. Please. My main complaints about GW overall right now are lack of general storage space, the inability to have as many heroes as you want in a PvE party, and the skin-variety issue with the new NF mod system.

Armor = yes.
Weapons/Shields/Focii = no.
Armor is still very easily craftable, so I believe that there really isn't an in game reason to not make the former skins inscribable.
However, there is still a vibrant market for Prophecies/Factions weapon skins that are not inscribable, as the rarity of these items continues to increase as fewer and fewer people play in those campaigns. That still remains a goal for many players (and functions to keep gold in circulation versus having it invested in items like ectos), which is part of the reason A-Net implemented inscriptions the way they did (which I applaud them for).

ANet came out with the new mod system because they felt it was an upgrade to what was already available. It's now time for them to upgrade the amount of skins that are currently available for that new mod system. The easiest way is to make the old skins drop in the old campaigns with the new mod compatibility. There's no need to place an artificial limit in the game for all the skins that are currently available throughout all three campaigns.
Fat chance of this ever happening though, as ANet probably couldn't care less about something like game variety. To be honest, sometimes I feel like suggesting stuff like this is a waste of time, even though I think it's for the best. I've more or less become disenchanted with making game suggestions on the various gw forums lately. I've all but given up trying to interpret how ANet thinks about things.

Don't lose hope, keep signing the petition.
Anet likes to set priority on things needed to be done, and they haven't gotten to this issue doesn't mean they won't. After all, they did make Tyrian/Canthan rune traders selling armor insignias, which is probably a sign that they'll update all armors in the future.
In the meantime, we should keep the hope up and continue pushing them on this issue.

I believe that armor from Prophecies and Factions should be Insignia-able, but not the weapons.
Armor is something that only the person owning it can use, so it would not screw up the economy much at all, except for a small rise in Insignia prices. These Insignia prices will eventually drop back down like it has now. However, Collector Armor should not be Insignia-able, as that would be unfair to those who forked out money to get a set of armor.
Weapons, on the other hand, should not be Inscription-able, as they can be owned and used by people other than the person who has it. Most of the unInscription-able weapons have been tossed aside for Inscription-able weapons, so if Prophecies and Factions weapons became Inscription-able, it would disrupt the economy as those who have nice-skinned weapons with good stats to be able to make lots of money in the early part of the new Inscription system.
To sum it up:
Armor: Yes
Weapons: No

if you can ask your guildmates to come post what they think about this, it would help out, and if you are members to other guildwars forums start this thread over there aswell.

If ANet ever makes the old skins drop with new-mod compatibility, the people who just want to keep the old-skin weapons/items in virgin form so they can resell for profit would simply move on to farming something else. In the long run this has little effect on them.
If ANet doesn't decide to add more variety to the game, and having the old skins start dropping with new-mod compatibility is a good way to support this, people like me who actually play this game to enjoy it and not max out some meaningless storage bank number will grow tired and leave. I didn't pay $150 total (actually $170 if you count the two extra mules I bought), to only have new-age access to only 1/3 of the skins.

Please add this feature for armors. I understand the point of putting inscribable armor only for NF campaign is meant to attract more people to buy the new expansion, but what about those (like me) who bought NF and hated all new armor designs but want to use NF only insignias?
Why don't you just put a NPC in the NF campaign that can make your armor inscribable, for a price? This way you would still need NF to get your armor inscribable, but you would be able to keep your proph/factions armor looks, which in my opinion are much better looking. I don't think this will affect the "buy nf" motto in any way.
I don't see a problem with leaving the weapons as it is (inscribable only on NF) but the issue with armor is huge in my opinion, even on pvp you can use like Geomancer Armor with Prismatic insignia, while on pve your choices for prismatic armor are poor, to say the least.
To sum it up:

Wth? They SHOULD make ALL armors inscriptable. Even the Cheap ones too. No, we shouldnt be crying because anet ripped us, it is their fault, their the ones who should be apologizing and changing the Armor Incriptable System. Just the armor. Not the weapons.

Retro upgrade the old armors. I'm annoyed with how the game is structured to basically punish people for using multiple characters in PvE - this would be a little push against that trend.
I will never ever buy the same armor skins over and over. Materials add up fast. I will buy new insignias for them occasionally. Hence - this change would be a gold sink for me.

I see this argument against making things easier to get all the time, but I don't understand it. This is not Sim City, nor the stock market, he who has the most toys/gold does not win. So why should economy matter so much? Having items (greens and the stuff that drops in DoA) is enough if you think you just must play the buy and sell or farm and sell game. But for those who just like the look of a certain armor and just want to change the inscriptions they should be able to do so. I understand A-Net wanting people to buy Nightfall, so just put a quest in NF to get armor changed to inscribable (like getting infused) and same could go for weapons as well. I got all new armor for my characters so I could inscribe them, but I like my old armor better on some characters and wish I could have just changed inscriptions so I could have kept the "old school" look.

Simply put, players having purchased their obsidian/FoW armor sets before the release of nightfall and implication of inscriptions but whom own nightfall, are not receiving fair treatment. Players crafting their armor after this have a tremendous benefit. Do I believe all armor sets should be inscribe-able, no, it is a nightfall game addition and should be kept that way, however to those players owning multiple GW campaigns, and of course, especially due to the fact that all campaigns come with FoW and UW access, and thus FoW/Obsidian armor crafting abilities, I believe Anet should implement the ability to inscribe ALL obsidian/FoW armor sets. Many have worked hard to obtain what they have in this game, and it only is fair that all who have spent their time and money, real and in-game receive the same chance. Thank you.

This is a must.
They added the system to PvP, making it core.
Not setting the same system for the whole game would be like allowing an Elonian character to get Prophecies and Factions skills, but not allowing a Tyrian or Canthan characters to buy Nightfall ones.

I like the idea of an armorer that allows you to change your armor to inscribable. I also do not see why this is impractical for weapons either. It was suggested before that armor should retain the ability for you to switch between runes and inscriptions already applied, I cannot see anything wrong with this idea as well.

Read the transcript from the dev chat. It sounds like there are going to make the armors inscriptible with GW:EN. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10156028
MithranArkanere
They are the PvP standart. Thus, they are CORE. Not Nightfall.
They had material storage exclusive for Factions for some time.
Once GW:EN is out, the novelty would end. And inscription and insignia should be available for all campaings.
GW:EN is an expansion, not another campaign.
We already know that GW:EN will have insignia.
So... if you get Prophecies and GW:EN, you should get Prophecies 'expanded' and insignia available for Prophecies armor.
For inscriptions... it's almost the same. You can get a Bone shield inscribable and allowing mods in nightfall. But a the same shild in Factions or Prophecies would be trash for the merchant, even being gold.
That's just unfair. Once GW:EN is out, like they made with material storage, all campaings should be upgraded to the new CORE system.
Otherwise, it would be like alowing Nightfall characters to get Prophecies and Factions skills, but not allowing Factions or Prophecies to acquire Nightfall ones. Playing for anything but Vanquishing and Guardian in older campaings would have no reason, since you can get items with much more uses in Nightfall.
