I was farming Decayed Orr Emblems around Gates of Kryta, getting ready for the Lion's Arch sale. When I figured "I seem to die a lot since the AI changed" I told my Oink pig friend, "They don't seem to be satisfied with you anymore, I guess I'm going to have to put you down." And so I did. After I had some pork chops for breakfast, I had to think, " Judge's insight is effective with Barrage, and having 'oink' laid down as a target meant that the undead left me alone to rain holy death on them. But the AI has changed and now I'm a target." I was very sad.
The next day I went to the Great Guildhall to speak with my Guild master 'The Great Mr None' about my troubles. "This is sad to know that Oink had gone to a better place, you having eaten him while he had piglets to feed" He said, shaking his head. " But I do know of a build that will help you out" and so he told me.
R/E
Equipment:Energy Armour (Druids)
A staff with either good energy or health
Attributes:9+3 Expertise
9+3+1 Wilderness Survival
12 Fire Magic
Skills: Glyph of Lesser Energy
Inferno
Bed of Coals
Lava Font
Escape
Whirling Defence
Lightning Reflexes
Troll Unguent
This build is designed to solo farm Decayed Orr Emblems without the use of oink. In fact you wouldn't want to use oink since he separates you from the enemy.
You run to the enemy activating a defence, then when you are surrounded activate the fire magic skills 1-4 to deal terrible dmg to the undead (Fire is an undead weakness). It may take awhile for the spells to recharge but always keep repeating in that order so you don't waste too much energy. Use the defence skills to protect yourself and always activate Troll Unguent even when your health is full since some attacks always go through when you're surrounded. Keep an eye out for those Undead Necros and their minions (they explode into a poison gas). When they're all dead again you should get a few Orr Emblems to your total.
At first when I heard of this build I was doubtful (forgive me Mr None), but as I used the build I found that it was much faster (and cooler looking) then Judges insight + Barrage. I was basically cooking them and I liked it.
To all you Rangers out there, I have not used this build anywhere else except the Gates of Kryta, so I don't know what will happen. Please post your findings.
Rest in peace Oink, I'm sorry we don't need you anymore. But you were as great as you were Delicious.

I'd say if wanna use spells, use an ele: they can be better tank than rangers and strike harder. Even without Oink, it's not hard for a ranger to tank the undeads in Gates of Kryta: if you go with Barrage and JI, you have 6 free slots. Troll unguent, Whirling Defense, Throw Dirt, Natural Stride (if you stay out of range of the necros), or even Lighting Reflexes and Dryder's Defense will do the job. Eventually, a pet can also take the aggro do some tanking.

Well, thanks for the nice words about me, Arran, but i will never forgive you for eating pork alone and not inviting me to share the meal
As for the build: File Ele line is the best there, even if you are a warrior - much faster and more fun to farm for orr using this or similar build than to go with the well-known W/Mo build
To the above poster: ranger has enough versatility to play with, there is no need to create an ele to farm orr.

If you wanna play a firestorm ranger in PvE because you have fun with it, go for it - but you can't say it's a good build.
The main skills used in this build are skills of his secondary profession - the only reason why someone would do that is to make good use of your primary attribute to enhance the build: for example using expertise to reduce the cost of RaO and IB for a thumper, reducing the cost of touch skills and make them spamable for touchies, both reducing the cost of binding ritual and being able to use oath Shot without the 50% chance to miss for spirit spammers, etc.
In this build, the ranger uses spells, unaffected by expertise, and less powerfull than the ele spells. So what's the advantage of bringing a ranger? The expertise defensive stances? An ele can use NS there, and it's enven not needed. The +10 AL? No joke, check the earth spells and tell me again if that's needed. And eles have 40-70 more energy than rangers and one more pip of regen. Sorry but this is a bad build. Again, if the OP wanna have fun with it, good, but saying it's a decent build is just wrong.
