Just wondered what people would prefer if they ever developed a Guild Wars 2. Would you still like it as it is, with instanced playing (going into your own world for each mission). Or, like WoW, a fully explorable world? There are good and bad things about both.
I've played WoW and while it's cool to be able to go to some part of the map and see your mates in the middle of a battle and help them, it's also annoying to get to an enemy and find you've got to wait for it to spawn because he's just been killed.
What do you reckon?
P.S. The title is supposed to say "FULL MMPORG". :s
GW2. Instanced or for MMPORG?

Although MMORPG does sound very tempting (i like running into random people and helping them
) i do choose for for instanced. It just fits the guildwars style better, and how overpowerd could we become if you could use any skill combination / proffession anywhere?
although more area's with 12 members could be fun

Isn't it too fast to talk about it? if there will ever come a completely new GW game - a sequel with new engine and everything, it won't come in the next 5 years. Remember that developing the first GW took about 5 years, and i expect it to live and prosper well for at least 3 years. Supporting and expanding GW is the way to go now as its still a top quality game. Upcoming chapters can and probably will bring significant engine and feature updates as they will be a must if they want to receive good reviews and sell the games well. Especially because they are marketed as standalone games, not expansions.
Its really tempting to say there should be a non-instanced Guild Wars, but that could possibly mean that monthly fees would be coming as well. I remember hearing that the instance system is a cheaper set-up for a company and therefore allows for no monthly fees.
That being said, I would love to try a Guild Wars that is set up like a traditional MMORPG.

Coming from RuneScape (little internet game, MMORPG in a way), I prefer ANY Guild Wars installment to be instanced. Let's translate RuneScape to Guild Wars.
In RuneScape (RS), you would kill monsters to get some good items, which is basically farming. BUT, all players in that world (in RS a world is like a huge district that spans the entire area) get to kill that single monster, which greatly decreases the chances of you getting the drop.
I would not want to go vermin farming and see another wammo already farming them.
My opinion: instanced.

After playing EQ2, WoW and GW, I've come to prefer instanced zones for exploring. It's like wadding through mud fighting respawning enemies while backtracking. Plus I hate spawn camping for quests!
Also instanced zones offer cool mechanics like opening locked gates and picking up and moving items for puzzles.

I like instanced, because it gives you control over who you play with and avoids all the griefers/spawn camping in other games.
I like full MMO, because it creates more of a feeling of a real world, with all the good (happening upon others in need, random groups adventuring, etc) and bad (unfortunately) that comes with it.
As for GW2, I don't know which I'd prefer. I love Guild Wars, but it does feel very singleplayer at times -- it's basically a "MSORPG" (Massively Singleplayer Online RPG).
I think it's really too early to be talking about GW2, as there's a lot more that can be done with GW IMHO. Still, it'd be kind of nice to see GW2 be a full MMO, just to offer something different from GW but with the GW "style" sorta speak.

There's already a Guild Wars 2.
It's called "Factions."
In that same mode of thinking, there's also a Guild Wars 3. Take a guess at the name.
Guild Wars is based as a stand-alone game already. I doubt Guild Wars itself will last enough release a true "Guild Wars 2." A second game of an MMORPG series is only released when significantly greater technology becomes available. (i.e. Everquest 2 appeared about 6-7 years after Everquest 1). There's no way GW will last that long.
(On that note, how long until this thread gets closed for baseless speculation?)

What I'd like would be constantly-running battlefields that would portray real "Guild Wars." For instance, you enter the outpost or talk to an NPC to gain access to a battlefield where two VERY large guilds (Like Am Fah vs. Jade Brotherhood) and choose a side and are put into the battle to support your chosen guild. (Basically, ABx3)

Factions is NOT Guild Wars 2. Factions is a stand alone expansion pack. Guild Wars 2, which the topic creator is referring to, is a game that is completely different than Guild Wars. This would mean upgraded graphics, new game mechanics, and probably incompatibility with the current Guild Wars game. Several games have stand alone expansion packs, then release a sequel a few years later.
I too would consider Factions and NightFall as expansion packs. How Anet see it I'm not sure but as mentioned I was thinking in the mode of a completely new GW. If/when that ever happens I don't know, but I just wondered what people would prefer.
Gotta say I agree with most and do prefer instanced. I don't know why though. There are upsides to both ways of playing but having played WoW here's my take...
I think it's because having to start each mission in a set place, you get more interaction with other people. In WoW you're pretty much just running around on your own. There doesn't seem to be any meeting place as such. There probably is, but not in the same way as in GW, which sort of forces you into them

As it is; otherwise it would require a monthly fee to pay for the much higher demand on the servers.
GWs is free because of the system they use at the minute. If it was to be used like WoW it would require technology changes and alot more servers to handle it and prevent lag.
Resulting in monthly fees.
