I'm thinking of buying Factions soon and possibly creating another new character when I do. The two Factions professions don't seem all that appealing, but I'd probably go for a Ritualist over an Assassin. In your opinion which would be the best profession to make next?:

- Ritualist
- Assassin
- Monk
- Ranger

I can't decide! ^^

I would say its very important for everyone in the game to play a monk at least once. If you dont know how hard it is to monks you really dont have a right to criticize a monk. but rangers and ritualists are fun to

Depends on your gameplay style.. if you're into PvP get Rit first. Midline and casterphiles will love this as it is easy as well as unique profession to take on. For PvE assassins tend to be the better way to go because of one skill "Shadow Shroud" this makes assassins invincible for a limited amount of time and is the perfect chest runner.

Give the Rit a try. Very flexible profession you can try out being a Nuker (Channeling) Healer (Restoration) and even protection. Not so much with the assasin. Theres alot of sin hate in pugs.

Go with Rit, especially if you're into PvP. Everyone's happy to have a channeling Rit nuker/capper pop into their group in AB.

And make a sin, they have so many farming builds, i know that because my sin is my main source of income.

It depends on personal preference, but from that list I'd go with ranger first then monk. Ranger's are very flexible and also get you into BP and trapper teams for end-game farming (tombs, underworld, etc).

As previously stated, it would be good if everyone played a monk to understand what they go through, but not everyone is suited to that role of putting the team first and not being part of the offense. If that isn't you, then don't play one.

I think Factions is the easiest place to build up a character. Just take all the quests from the monastery, trying every profession and putting off finalizing it. Before you know it, you'll be at level 12.

As for the "everyone should try the monk" thing, it's not that big a deal. Most PUGs are happy to have a monk.

I agree 100% with Coloneh and highly recommend monk.

Aside from the fact that everybody should experience the most needed profession there is, it is a lot of fun! Plus monks are needed for most all group farming situations, unlike say rangers which only get you into b/p and trapping.

I'd go for Assassin over an Rt. The reason is that, although Rt's can do alot off things, the things they do are weaker when you compare them. (Channeling/Fire, Restoration/Healing)

I'd choose Ritualist. Here is my reasoning:

1) Restoration - healing that is comparable to Healing Prayers (but not exactly the same)
2) Communion - protection and offense comparable to Protection & Smithing (again, not exactly the same)
3) Channelling - Air Magic but without the kds, blindness and armor penetration
4) Its one of the two reasons to even buy Factions
5) you get less flak from PUGs than you would if you were a monk
6) better party heals, not as good as a monk for individual heals
7) good party supporter
8) can also solo (but should be a Rit/Me to do so)
9) can be a minion bomber (but must be a Rit/N to do so)
10) Ritualists look very nice (but I think their dancing leaves much to be desired)
11) you can resurrect yourself (using Restoration binding ritual)

Rit/A if you want to get all the skills in Factions without being an Assassin.

Hope this helps you. (I know, I'm very biased).

Really depends on what type of gameplay you're looking for. Are you looking to be in the trenches? Is supporting others your thing? It's all on the role you want to take. That being said, I prefer to be a support char (I have one of every class). Ranger is flexible on what they can do, Rit and Monk will need others to keep them alive (squishies). As for a Sin, they can be lethal when attacking by surprise (quick combo kills), or they can be flattened by a group.

Again, it's what role you want to play. I prefer my Rit, but that's me.

Monks are almost always useful. Even bad monks will get groups, simply because their monks. Intelligent party leaders will also accept Ritualists for the same reason. A good Rit can fill many rolls, healing, protection and damage dealing (and in the case of protection, can to as good, if not better, then monks).

Assassins and Rangers face some bias. The Whammos of Factions have tainted the Assassin and it might not ever recover, at least in PVE. A good assassin though can still damage like little else can, though. I wouldn't recommend it though unless you're very patient (to get into groups), have good guild mates (to help when you can't find parties) or can beat even the hardest missions with heroes/hench.

Rangers suffer from Barrage. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent enough elite, but there are party leaders out there that will consider you an idiot for daring to use something else. Personally, I'm a fan of Broad Head Arrow. I've gotten kicked from parties simply because, Rangers aren't part of the 'holy trinity' of tank/ele/monk.

tl;dr: Being a monk will get you into pretty much any group. The other classes face bias from idiots that aren't able to come up with anything original.

I think monk is a good first character for Factions. You can breeze through the island and finding a good group in Zen Daijun is much easier as I've seen monks in short supply there. Zen D is easy to do with henches, but a good group is more likely to get masters.

Speaking of masters, I never did like the bonuses for finishing fast. One of the easiest ways to fail a mission is to rush through it and over aggro everything along the way.

Personally I would go for 'Sin, but this is because I find them to be one of the most fun and entertaining classes. Something about killing a target in under 5 secs really apeals to me.

I'd go with Rt. Since you start in factions, doing one of the factions classes is a good idea. Assassins face horrible discrimination in PvE (mostly because so many of them played horribly at the start of factions). Rangers and monks are ok classes to play, but not as unique to factions as the Rt.

Oh and of course: Playing as restoration Rt will secure you a place in almost all groups (just as good as monk).
