Hey dudes & dudettes
I'm currently deciding on what type of ADSL connection I should order.
I was wondering what sort of download/upload speeds you would recommend for playing Guild Wars without any problems?
At least any problems concerning connection speed and lag issues.
I'm currently looking at these connections:
1. 1024/128
2. 2048/128
3. 2048/512
I'm guessing no. 2 should be fast enough, but I'm in doubt wether the 128 kB upload will be enough.
Could you also be so kind as to explain to me, how high or low download and upload speeds will affect the game experience? What factors do the download speed affect and what factors do the upload speed affect?
Thank you for your assistance.

Recommended broadband speed?

All of these connections should be able to play Guild wars perfectly fine, so unless you're a real downloader or uploader all of these should do.

Yeah, they're all fine to work with GuildWars.
If you do much anything else though, like use voice chat programs, or even upload pictures to anything over the internet, I'd find a plan with at least 256 on the upload side,..that 128 would be painful.
For example on the voice chat thing. The 'Ventrilo' program in most server configurations will eat 70kbps of upload bandwidth while you're speaking in it. If you combine that with having GuildWars open, and maybe browsing the Guildwarsguru.com at the same time, you might begin to start seeing a degradation in performance.
Then again,..if all you're doing is playing GW and that's it at any one time,..no worries, get the 128/whatever connection.

Now, now, I highly recommend a satellite net connection!
There is a rare perspective granted when playing the game 800 to 1200 ms behind other players. A sat-net connection gives you a unique and unrivaled insight into game mechanics that other players can never experience!
Of course, if you are fortunate enough to have a 9.6 baud rate modem connection, disregard this post, because you are a rarer and even luckier bird, indeed.
