W/E Attrib Points; Camera Angle Control Trouble?
Ratsneve
Level 16.2...Just entered Lion's Arch after completing mission & bonus. My Hero is W/E but she doesn't use E at all. Only Str, Swd, and Tac. Should these three be equal or one or two weighted more or less and why--that is the question? Currently I have them set at Str 7, Swd 9, and Tac 7+1.
Regarding the last mission and bonus to get into Lion's Arch: GuideWiki's walkthrough on this shows a path out across shallow water to the opposite shore but I found at least a couple Drakes so I just took the two bridges across. Seemed a lot more straight forward though it had its own battle of lesser foes. I did the bonus first of course and for this I flagged the party, and sprinted back with the tome. I had lots of trouble with the camera and this seems to be my biggest current gripe on the game. Got disoriented and spotted by two drakes starting back up the trail and killed. Drakes wandered off, I released the flag on the party which promptly resurrected me. Picked up the tome and finished the bonus neatly.
What's the deal with the camera angles zooming in and around on its own? Any way to stop it doing its own thing and letting me control it 100% to avoid these problems? I can see why it zooms in when there is a cliff face but in the middle of a battle this really stinks.
Thank you.

This really should be relegated to the Tyrian Explorer's leauge, but here's my standard point-blank advices.
-Max out Sword then pull rest of points into tactics to boost up Healing Signet. Strength is a joke until Nightfall (Flail)
-Never did Gates to Kryta, sorry.
-Camrea Angle Problems < Right Mouse Button or holding the Mouse Weel.

Why isn't Strength more important? Should I zero it out at this point and put everything in Sword and Tactics? Skills I use that require Strength: Power Attack, Dolyak Signet, Endure Pain, and Sprint! I suppose now we'll get into those skills not being good ones to use instead of something better that doesn't require Strength? Right now I've got 10 on Sword, 7+1 on Tactics, and 6 on Strength. I have plenty of other skills but what I have done so far in the main quest and missions has worked well with the skills I'm using. There is always a different approach. If I am using skills that require Strength though how can I abandon that Attribute in favor of Tactics? As far as Tactics goes Healing Signet is the only skill requiring it that I'm using. Seems like I should put Strength higher then Tactics--why not?

Camera problems? That's the last thing I'd say about guild wars...
Just zoom with mouse wheel, and right mouse button lets you control the camera.

Healing Signet isn't that critical in PvE. Strength is fine for now. Your weapon attribute should always be the most heavily weighted, as you deal more damage with your sword the higher your attribute is. The only reason you want to put points in Tactics or Strength is for the skills and for a shield. Strength's armor penetration isn't that great. Jeff Highwind

You really should have mentioned that beforehand. When I started my War it was tact-focused so I can't really predict anyone's skillline.
And Sarvio I said it should be put in Tyria because s/he was originally asking for help on the Gates of Kryta mission. Ratsneve

Just zoom with mouse wheel, and right mouse button lets you control the camera. The camera _is_ a problem. Let me give a better example. We're inside a cave where walls and ceiling are constraining. I line up the camera as best I can to see the battle up ahead that is going to start shortly. We move in and I engage and kill one baddie. Suddenly another heads for my healer located behind me. I swing the camera around to move toward that foe but the wall forces the camera to zoom all the way in and have lost track of my new target. I fiddle with the mouse wheel to zoom out and the right mouse to find a position where I can zoom out--its a mess. Seconds later the view is okay and I proceed with the battle. Summary: Sometimes during a battle I not only have to fight the baddies but also fight the camera view at the same time. I'm not sure what the solution is or what is wrong with my technique but one battle at a time is about my limit. When you say this should be the last issue with GW doesn't help me at all and I wrote the thread. What am I doing wrong controlling the camera in tight quarters like this? If you said this because there isn't anything that can be done about this sort of camera view situation and to just learn to deal with it then I'll have to stick my tongue out at you like this Ratsneve

I'll remember to present my current build to include all the skills I'm using in the future. And I will split up questions into appropriate spots rather then mixing things up all in one post. Sounds like you don't like using the compass.

You guys do realize that this is his first character and he's at Lion's Arch? Unless you care to help him unlock skills, he doesn't have much in terms of skill variety, so he can run whatever skills he has for now. As much as I'd like to say "Here's a Dragon Slasher build, go kill everything", he won't be able to get half the skills he needs for quite a few more hours, especially some of the better Elites.
Oh, and [skill=icon]Power Attack[/skill] Jeff Highwind
I know Sarvio, that's why I diddn't really specify any skills but an attribute. Though I do admit my lack of available Tactics skills in Prophecies was a poor mistake.

Okay, then...but do get Dolyak Signet off the bar.

I also started out few weeks back, and I was about level 16 when I reached LA. Fortunately for me I also had a max fiery sword with req of 12. I basically, maxxed out my swordsmanship. Rest went into tactics as needed. A few went into strength depending on skills I was using for a mission.
At LA, take the "Ascalon Settlement" quest but don't complete it. Talk with Devona and have the group follow you around. Kill all the Imps, skales, Tengus, Ettins with their help (no Henchmen) to get all the XP and loot for easy levelling. You can also do certain quests with them in the party as your allies. |
