Pros and cons of each? I'd probably use fire for PvE, then maybe switch to earth for PvP...I like the healing ability of the monk, but also the idea of disruption, and also the idea of draining the life out of monsters as a necro...ehh I can't decide...

Can you guys help me? I have an Ele/war at the moment, and I'm gonna start over...it's not as great as I thought it would be...

EDIT: I didn't think of Me/Ele....is that any good for PvE?

MO

E/Mo

E/Mo Is full of win and good. Every other secondary is garbage, except for assassin in a limited number of builds relevant only in pvp.

When choosing a secondary, you have to actually look at how you and your team can benefit from it. Mesmer offers subpar energy management compared to what's in your element line, energy storage, and unlinked skills such as glyph of lesser.

Necro offers absolutely nothing for an elemental primary.

Monk, however, has a broad variety of high energy party support that primary monks generally can't afford, but elementalists (with their vast energy pool, GoLE, and ether prodigy) can. Thing such as aegis and heal party. Glyph of sacrifice+resurrection chant is also the best rez in the game.

You could, of course, use necro and mesmer skills with your high energy pool, but then why wouldn't you just use a primary profession to do that?

Just to let you know later in the campaign you have the choice to change your secondary proffesion for a one time fee of 500g per proffesion (You can change them as many times you want) so don't just delete your ele/war yet.

Also it's probably not the best idea to stick with one build and never change. Always experiment with the different secondary proffesions and see what you like.

If you decide to go with E/Me, it's probably going to be because of the unlinked skills like Epidemic, Hypocondria, and the Echo skills.

If you go E/Mo everyone will expect you to basically be a monk. Personally I am E/N but that makes no difference 90% of the time as I usually go for Elementalist-only skills. My Ele is one of the few characters I don't rake a resurrect skill on because I feel it limits me too much.

As Jedi says, there are some good unlinked-skills in the Mesmer profession...maybe worth choosing if you want to be an Earth Tank (using Mantra of Earth) or an Echo nuker (using, umm....echo.)

You have an E/W? Hmm, I made my E/N and E/W just so I could cap a few warrior elites...never used warrior skills though. You know you can just change your secondary profession at a profession changer, right?

If I had to choose between E/Mo and E/Me....E/Me every time.

PVE wise:

e/me for Mantra of Concentration

rank 12/12 in ele and energy storage , leftover points will give you rank 3 in inspiration which MoC last 84 second.

e/mo dose little heal and takes off lots points you could have put in element and energy storage

/N is only really useful if you need some outlandish utility, like corpse control in halls, or verata's gaze in fort aspenwood.

/mo can be good stuff with ether prodigy, but it's not always necessary, and eles have very good party defense options in their own line anyway. Heal party rocks vs. degen, and res chant + glyph of sac is awesome though.

/me does have some nifty utility, like everyone above says.

I'd probably go E/mo for your first shot through PvE.

Knigths of the Keyboard Order - KkO

I've started out as an E/Mo in prophecies way back in the beginning and I finished prophecies as an E/Mo and was a very solid choice. Then I started farming as E/Mo, was still ok.

But shortly after I changed to E/Me and found it very good to, thinking about echo, channeling, ...

In prophecies I also cap't all E, Me, Mo skills available

So then came factions which I started as E/Me (same char) and finished as E/Me, and also capping all E, Me, Mo skills available

Same with nightfall E/Me and staying E/Me to finish it and capping all E, Me, mo skills available.
And with the latest elite cap weekend I capped all Necro elites in the three campaigns.

But at moment I think E/Me is the best then E/Mo, will have to see where E/N will fit?

E/N really isn't good for much unless you want to use some sort of Enfeeble + stoning build, so I wouldn't reccomend it.

Some combos to consider with E/Mo are:
Ether Prodigy + Heal Party/Aegis/Extinguish
Glyph of Sacrifice + Res Chant

E/Me
Archane Echo + MS/Sandstorm
Mantra of Resolve (helps in missions/areas with high interupts)
Mantra of Earth + Stone Striker

Also if you have Nightfall, there are some good E/D combos to allow for strong defense from enchantments.
E/A is also pretty good for defensive abilities as well as flexible movement/escape when using tough range spells.

The E/Me UW solo build is also something that is very nice and worth considering building towards:

I would go /Mo or /Mes for the big heals like party or some others anyway I use rebirth when I go E/Mo and I use to use arcane echo for nuking when I play /Mes but not anymore.I just basically use all Ele skills now especially after capping Elemental Attunement. This will help you getting into parties more when they see /Mo /Mo not to much of /N.

If you're playing fire, use SEARING FLAMES.
As a secondary, mesmer does well because you can arcane echo SF.. or Glowing Gaze. It's not too necessary though, and Glyph of Sacrifice+Res Chant definitely makes my pants happy. For this reason, monk secondary is a-ok.

If you don't have access to Nightfall, then use an assassin secondary. Why? Well, because Assassin's Promise is one of the best PvE elites ever. Elementalists have tons of expensive skills with bad recharge times. Assassin's Promise solves that.
