20 Years from now, will you think back at GW as something good?

I'm 38 years old and I've been playing video games for a very long time. I still look back with fondness on some of the greats from years ago. I spent a great deal of time playing Ultima III and Ultima IV. More recently, the Final Fantasy series is always around, and sometimes I still pop them into the PS for a little while.

I've spent spent a lot of time playing GW, and met some great people too. It has been a fantastic escape from the challenges of real life. I know that 20 years from now I will still be playing video games, and I will definitely have great memories of GW.

In 20 years I'll /fistshake A-net for stealing my youth, and then hunker down for Guild Wars: the Final Frontier.

I said "Arenas," as in level 70 Arenas where you can choose 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 combat, and all classes are viable for all 3 forms.

You are refering to "low-level Battlegrounds," where Warriors and Rogues are indeed overpowered. But that's not the main form of PvP. Warriors and Rogues are significantly weaker at higher levels.

You are generalizing and assuming; generalize and assume correctly!

(Alright, enough WoW praise. I'm just making a point that Guild Wars isn't the godly form of PvP better than all others; it's apples and oranges.)

I think I'll remember it as something good mostly, as I will probably not have much time to play video games later on in life.

I'll definately remember Guild Wars-

Wait, who says we have to 'think back' on Guild Wars. For all we know, it could continue for centuries ;o.

Guild Wars is my second MMORPG...after 'Ashen Empires'.
I've made alot of friends and have played through with alot of friends from AE.

So yes, Guild Wars will always be remembered.

I dunno...The game was fun and I still love it, but the community that revolved around it, all the name calling, player-bashing etc, will give me a salty memory.

I remember the PC learning games we had a school, trying not to get crapped on by pelicans (or were they eggs I was supposed to catch?) while doing math/grammar problems.

The topic itself is subjective, asking will *you*. I just stated my opinion when i've spent over a year wasting time on korean mmorpg games. The FoTM build isn't all there is to GW, and if all you're gonna do here is criticize GW by comparing it to WoW and making rude posts (which i've seen you do a lot) spare us all the trouble.
I dont care for WoW or like WoW - that's why i play GW.

GW 20 yrs from now hmm for me I probably won't be thinking abut that much unless Anet gives US a Parting Gift in a single player game so we can play on an older machine and OS.I doubt I will be thinking about that much except for the ppl I have met in GW my 1st officer, friends list and those on GW boards like this one the community at large.I will probably be to busy with other things like my health and a few other things.

I would think about GW in 2 years from now as there really isn't much to do in the last 2 chapters and the lites areas you only want to go there so much. There use to be lots of fun things to do in GW like running and yes farming to keep your interest in the game. Then there are those who really don't like the hero or hench in coop mission so when they can't get group log out.GW right now has become less fun and enjoyable even with my Alliance leader being a farmer is not logged in that much. This is what I would be concerned about at the present moment but in 20 years mostly the players.

Heh, I still reminesce (sp?) about Diablo 1 & 2. I remember the good times and the better times I had while playing those two games. To be honest, I consider Guild Wars a step up from Diablo, and a kind of sequal to D2.

20 years? That's quite a ways off, honestly, so it's hard to tell. Let's see, what was I playing 20 years ago? Ahh yes, my trusty NES. Remembering back to that, I can recall fond memories of good ol Zelda, Mario, Contra, Metroid and all their buddies.

Being that GW has now been almost my sole game of choice for a year now, and back then I only played each of those games for maybe a month or two tops, I'd say GW is firmly rooted in my brain as a great game. Definately worth the money for the entertainment I recieved, no doubts there.

As far as a fond memory compared to real life events (such as wedding, children, etc), uhh no. It doesn't even compare. It's a recreational activity, stress relief, a game. But it's a game that I'll always think of when thinking about fun things - even 20 years from now.

Somehow, I doubt you'll have Guild Wars on your mind in 20 years. Do you even remember games from 20 years ago?

We'll be playing games with 1 TB RAM, DirectX 15, and a 512 GB Graphic card, and a 1 Thz processor. Would we want to think back?

People remember games like EQ and WoW because they were flagships for the MMORPG franchise. Guild Wars isn't.
For us older games: Yes, i do remember remember games from 20 years ago.

GW will leave its mark on the industry as being an innovator. Many games are copying many of the same mechanics and business models. GW is also taking things from other games to make up for some weaknesses.

Its just one of those games that after it everything is changed.

Exactly. 34 years old here and I still fondly remember playing Utopia and Astrosmash on my Intellivision, Wizardry on my Apple IIe, Elite on my friend's C64, Ultima VII on my first pc (486/dx2 66 ftw baby), SOCOM on the ps2. I'll certainly be gaming in 20 years, as I'm sure any children my fiancee and I have will be. As for GW, I certainly will remember it in a good light. I've been playing since the beta and it has held my attention since.

I repeat, I sure as hell hope my life is not that sad and pathetic that i can reflect back to 20 years ago and remember GW.

In 20 years i will have a Playstation 9, one of those gravity cars from Wipeout to run over small annoying chav-like children in, a Druganov SVD arm attachment, a hamster, a pogo-stick, a plasma tv and mp3 player implanted in my breasts, a robot-monkey slave, and a Terminator T1000 home protection service...

but amongst all that futuristic heaven when im a cyborg, im sure that in the small part of me that will be human, i will always remember GW.

What expectations are facts for our future that we WANT to forget about something in our present?
If anything might bring us embarrassment in remembering it, then why the hell we doing it now?

For myself, I will remember it fondly.
This game has taught me a lot about games.

Zinger is such a fruitcake... And no I don't plan on explaining why I think my opinion is "blahblahblah".

Guild Wars is my current staple online game. I don't play many others if at all right now, so.. Yes, I think I'll remember which online game I played while in college.

Oh yeah, and it will be something thought as GOOD. You can suck my back if you think I'm gonna pay monthly fees and worry about getting the best possible result from my money. I was there in my last online game, and it's really a load of bull.

I thought I should also add that the last game I played - I did so, for 5 years.

Guild Wars is not the innovator. Games with major online capabilities and no monthly fee have been used for many, many years. Diablo II, anyone? (No, I am not a Blizzard fanboy. It's a fair example).

Guild Wars is just an oppertunist in that regard; Guild Wars was released when the popularity of MMOs surged, in a time where most MMOs had monthly fees. It's the best known game of this time with that pricing model, but it's not the first.
