Because .jpeg images are shite quality compared to .bmp images. Personally I'd prefer the option to take screenshots in the 24bit .png format, but hey we can't have everything.

Here I thought that if they where saved as a lower quality, converting it to a higher one left it the same was it was...exception of the massive file size.

I personally was never able to tell much of a different between high quality .jpeg files and .png files or .bmp, maybe I just don't look hard enough or something.
