So it's almost my grandfather's bday and i was thinking about buying him a laptop. However, i only have $500 so it kinda puts a limit to how much i can spend. However, he doesn't need a great laptop only one that can surf the net and stream videos ect.
so any suggestions as to which to get him? a link would be appreciated!

Hit Best Buy if there is one in the neighbor hood. Or try E-Bay and check out the laptops with the Buy Now buttons. On E-Bay check the sellers feedback before committing to anything and check to make sure the laptop is new in box (NIB). Doing these will ensure a good transaction. Even HP and DEll have some rather decent cheep laptops that they offer on their websites. Do not expect to get anything great seeing as you plan on only spending $500. If your budget allows I would suggest getting one with at least a 15' lcd screen for ease of viewing. The price range yopu specify will have only those laptops in the 14" range which are hard to see.
Hope this helps

I agree you should try ebay...try to find something in the P3 or early P4 (stay away from celerons) range so price should be under your price tag...if all he wants to do is surf and play some videos he should be ok with a P3...try to get as much memory as you can as memory is harder to upgrade on a laptop than a PC. On a personal note I bought my daughter a P4 1ghtz laptop with 512 ram for about 375 dollars a few months ago ...
